- In this Karate tutorial you'll learn a Ryuei Ryu kata Ohan Dai from Okinawa - the birthplace of Karate. This form consists of techniques from Anan Dai, Paiku, Pachu, Heiku and Ohan. For this reason it's an advanced kata performed at higher levels. It's also used by world champions like Ryo Kiyuna at WKF competitions (K-1 Premier League). Good luck!

I am interested in bunkai sensei
The more you teach us bunkai, more of us will learn and more I will become practical
If you already know this kata, then you have a point...but in order to learn the bunkai of a kata, you must first learn the kata. Even Iain Abernethy, one of the foremost authorities on bunkai, preaches that.
Interesting how this kata utilizes such a variety of stances from high to low, linear and angular. Very good demonstration. Impressive.
I'm a taekwondo but i love kata. every single move. Sugoi Jesse Sensei 🙏
Jesse I practiced Taekwondo for 17 years, and I have to say that your kata performance is easily the best I've ever seen, truly world class. You humble me with your skill and your knowledge. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
I am really impressed by the way some of the movements sound like thunder when you do them. Between the steps and the gi rustling, then there's me who sounds like a kitten's sneeze
Saludos desde Venezuela, muy util y recomendable tu video
Im a muay thai and muay boran practicioner, but i like to whatch and learn about other martial arts such as wing chun, boxing, kung fu, and karate, specially karate, karate has a very beautiful look, it is very fun to practice too, thank you jesse
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much power and grace combined kata before. This tkd guy is impressed lol
So graceful and powerful at the same time
I appreciate how you take the time to teach us something that we could use in a real life situation thanks so much sensei
Both the execution AND the explanation are just mind-blowing, that's the difference between a simple Athlete and a true Master!!! Keep up the excellent job, Jesse-sensei, hyvin menee!!!
Kiitos! Always a student, never a master 🙏
VERY dynamic kata ! ! Thanks for showing us. That's a young man's kata, demanding the speed and strength of youth.
Your precision and stances are just incredible. The way you articulate each movement along with demonstrating is mastery. Thank you for posting
Thanks for your kind words 👊
The timing is great! This helps me to remember the info from the online seminar recently from Sakumoto Sensei's dojo. You are always staying ahead, and are very open to sharing with others. Thank you! Since you're asking, Ohan or Anan-Dai from the two angles would be great. Respectfully appreciated.
Thank you Jay Sensei, hope all is well! 👍
Looked fun. I was sitting while watching but imitating the hand movements. I haven't been big on trying karate, however, learning katas is kinda the main reason I wana get into it.
Absolutely love the kata. Mainly because it is soooo different and counterintuitive from shotokan. It forces your brain to adapt. I think watched it way over 100 times to learn it :). Thank you Jesse!!
Woah ! I've been waiting for such Kata tutorial videos of yours since long. There are many Kata tutorials on RUclips, but yours is the best. I always knew that no one could do Kata tutorials better than you. Thank you so much, Sensei ! Osu ! 🥋
I wish I could be in that dojo to learn and practice
Me too!!!
Go to Stockholm Sweden, there he is
Try it now! Work on two or three movements at a time before moving on. Learning to learn from watching is invaluable when it comes to how many techniques and kata there are in the world
@@mykulpierce already did some I'm just outside in the dark at 6:00am doing bo and practicing posture and movement
You can get a book of explaining and illustrations for the KATA of many styles.
Sensi Jesse,
A young teacher in India who I compare notes with ( I teach
"Kung Fu" ) is now learning this kata. Your influence is stretching across the earth.
Stay safe and healthy ! 😀
Need bunkai for this now, great video
That is a HUGE dojo! Great KATA, but THAT'S REALLY GREAT DOJO!!!
Thainks for posting. In these dificult times you keep us motivating.
OS!
Thanks so much for posting this. These step by step guides are invaluable.
Watching you perform this kata is really terrifying... What a spirit!
Jesse that kata was amazing. You did it with some much energy and power you was shaking your cameras. I will be practicing this kata. Thank you.
awesome to see and be explained a kata most people rarely see. Thank you
Hello 👋🏻
I just wanted to thank you.
I had done karate for around 7 years, when I suddenly decided to stop. I’m not entirely sure why, I guess I just didn’t feel like I was as good as the others who had trained for as long as me.
Well anyway, your videos really inspired me to start training again, and I just got my second brown belt! Thank you so much!
Love from Denmark 🇩🇰
That speed on those punches is awesome. 💪🙏👊
Sensei I would like to see more of u doing kata ... Your level is inspiring and I have no words
Very explosive and dynamic, the directional changes are fast and snappy, the change between stances, oh this is a kata i could truly get lost in. I would imagine controlling your breathing plays a huge role in being able to explode when needed. Thank you for performing and sharing this kata with us.
*Deep bow*
Jesse Sensei, I am a brown belt in GOJU RYU KARATE, I was a bit rusty but it's been 4 to 5 months since I have got back in the game and training
Can you make a video on practical Karate fighting(KUMITE) combos
For sure. Keep training! 💪
This is an idea I can get behind. I'm in the same boat and the same level
no need to learn karate, in Bharat there is much more efficient and ancient shastar vidiya, in karate a lot has been lost since martial arts left bharat, including stances and generating punches etc. Karate, including Okinawan karate, doesn't even have the correct way to walk which is the basic mool pentra, way too much length in walking when compared to the tight walking in basic mool pentra. There are channels on youtube where you can be view shastar vidiya, and I don't mean gatka
@@neelasingh1081 "i do the best martial art".
When you hear this, go find an other mentor. 👍
I'd like to see a video like that too! I love that kata bunkai /ufc mash up that someone did. It shows a ton of striking combos, set ups, sweeps and throws from various traditional martial arts. The video was spliced back to back with footage of the techniques, being applied in a full contact ring or cage fight.
This looks like such a great Kata that one should learn regardless of style. You can see and feel the real life applications in the simple movements.
Sensei Jesse - When can we get more of these! Your speed, power and control are amazing to watch and this is one of the best Kata instructions I have watched. Keep it up
Daayummm! Talk about kime! Perfect execution. Congratulations for the performance dude
This Kata is so cool!!! It will be also cool to see the bunkai... Thanks Jesse, keep up the good work!!!!
Hi Jesse Enkamp sensei! I loved this Kata, I had never heard of it before. Today, due to arthritis in my hands, I can no longer use seiken. But I can still use teisho and shuto, so I would love to learn Anan kata.
Thank you!
I study Traditional Taekwondo, but I always enjoy your videos 🔥😤 such power in your Kata Jesse, its impressive
One my favourite kata ! So much power in these moves !
I applaud your time and effort, too deadly thanks for your knowledge sensei Jess. 🙏🏿
Getting that circular motion right at 2:45 took me forever! Been doing it on the mirror while constantly rewinding this video and another demonstration of Ohan Dai. I think I've finally got it right. Onto the next few movements.
Beautiful looking kata
Edit: currently up to 4:35 and I think thats it for today. I'll just keep drilling over and over up to this point and then pick up new movements tomorrow. Lots of new movements I have never performed before.
Wonderful!! Keep it up
Every block is a strike. Thank-you so much for these instructional videos, Sensei.
Jesse, thank you for your generous teaching
Fantastisk Kata! Tack för att du lade upp denna!
Thank you for sharing this Senpai. Ohan Dai feels like a fighter's kata. There's constant forward pressure with backwards motions reserved for counters or maintaining range.
The block-mae geri chain makes a great counter after blocking an opponent's jodan mawashi geri (OwO)!
AHHHHH thanks again for sharing such a powerful form.
Man, those movements are so crisp! I haven't trained in years and I'm inspired to get back. Definitely subscribing starting today! Greetings from the tiny islands of Palau!
Thank you!!
The things that stood out to me here are the foot stomps as you move and the "block and kick" motion, which looks so muay thai.
And man, even the tripods shake when you stomp. Looks so Hollywood. Great form needless to say!
Haha that’s awesome! Thanks for chiming in 😁
Cool kata! You can see some of the applications readily. Gonna try to commit this one to muscle memory. Thanks Jesse!
This is so easy and so hard at the same time. Great job
Glad to see you staying healhty, Jesse. I've not dropped by the channel in a bit, but I'm glad to be swining by again :) It's inspiring to see self discipline n these chaotic times.
Nice. Thanks! I really see many katas into this. So love it from first to last movement.
Your technique is incredibly sharp. I love it!
I loved doing poomsae (taekwondo kata) competitions before Covid 19, your videos inspire me to keep training through the virus man! Keep up the good work, oss!
Nice to see simultaneous attacks that have been lost in tournament karate. FYI, this is a cornerstone to what I teach - so critical in Sen-no-Sen.
Me encanto la explicacion de como se realiza el Ohan Dai, lo tendre de ahora en adelante como uno de mis videos para aprender katas favoritos, muchas gracias por tus consejos Jesse Enkamp
Thanks a lot for sharing this video. very useful.... Greetings from Italy!
Wow, your Kata delivery is not only flawless but over-the-top excellent! Like Rika Usami level good! All this time I've been enjoying your videos I never dreamt you were on this level. Is there a "secret" (actual practical) bunkai to this? Maybe White Crane Seisan form next time?
I'm not even a Karateka but man that was cool, beautiful and interesting to watch. I think that's the first time I've really seen you "Go at it" Jesse Sensei. That was a real treat. Although I think you need to get a wide angle lense for next time perhaps 😉.
Awesome kata Jesse-san. My mind is exploding with thoughts of Bunkai while watching you!
I wish I could practice with u Jessie u know what u know and u make it look so elegant great job
Excellent movements with clear explanation sir,,, superb sir,,,( I am from India)
I've always loved watching Karate Kata. Yours looks great! I've been lifelong in ITF Taekwondo, so I never tried a Karate form. I'll check this out. Thank you!
I follow your channel, and I am very happy, with your humble personality, and great knowledge. Thank you sensei!
Meotode, as I understand it, is one of the principles of Okinawan Karate. It's basically the idea that your hands are complimenting and supporting each other: if one is attacking, the other is defending. Of course they play their parts as needed and there is no fixed role to any, but they do it naturally and fluently. There are many names for that kamae you see so much in the kata, really not that important. I'm glad that only the most common movements are the one you give names.
Amazing! What a beautiful kata!!! Never heard of it b4 and now is my new favourite!!!
jesse sensei your teaching kata explatntion is very good!!!
Very nice video and very informative.. Keep posting and growing..
OMG JESSE San you are so fast.. You saw my comment just when I posted it.. Thank you so much
Omg man, that was amazing, I didn't know you could move like that. Karate always has amazing Kata. I train in TKD but will definitely use this speed and agility in my forms.
Wow !! what a great Kata and how perfect performed!!!
Extremaly amaizing, stunning performance. Whaooo!!!
Your fists changed structure and performance-wise, also your centering became more solid
Thank you sensei... Works time... I apreciate it.. Gracias desde México
Oss thanks a lot Jesse SENSEI i love ryureiryu styles mostly of his kata doing MOVES and his historicals I loves the way u tutorial this ON AN DAI THANKS A LOT ONCE AGAIN AWESOME OSS
Sensei Jesse. This was amazing. Can you please show more unknown karate katas? Thanks and respect from India 🇮🇳.
That was really awesome to watch! 👏👍
Thank you Jesse Sensei. Great video and tutorial. This is now on my list of kata to learn. Really appreciate the excellent instruction.
Cheers,
Your friend from 🇺🇸,
Ryan
Thanks for this Video Jesse-san. The Palm Hit with the Gyaku-zuki was definitely interesting and eye opening. I've been doing it as a double knife hand and grab XD Should try this tomorrow during training and see how it goes. I believe this is the only and best tutorial on Ohan Dai too. Easy for most to understand and learn. Oh and I just got a Seishin Gi, can't believe how comfortable it is versus my Hirota and Shureido Gis. It's definitely lighter and comfortable to wear with enough snappiness in it. Definitely will use it for training more. And here I thought my Takumi was well made and comfortable XD Although, for competition, I always like my Gi thicker.
Indeed amazing kata and what a beautiful dojo!
Très belle exécution du kata, tout aussi pédagogique. Merci Jesse sensei oss ! 👊
Hi Jesse! I practice Wing Tsun but I think this kata is great! There are a lot of applications inside and i'm learning by you from this tutorial! I hope i can do it :D I follow you for a long time and i like very much your channel :D
Amazing Kata. I only reach blue belt in Goju Ryu. I have not forgotten the basics. Interesting challenge to do this Kata . Thank you Sensei Enkamp
The first Kiai reminded me of some chinese fist forms. There I got the feeling that the shout not only marks the powerful end of a sequence but can also occur as an introduction to a fist form. My lay man's intuition believes that this serves, amongst other meanings, to startle the opponent as you are forced to enter a violent confrontation.
Excellent! I love the attack and defense blending with momentum and posture.
I can do this kata because of you, thank you sensei
Dang, Jesse, you are excellent at kata performance. Impressive.
Thank you so much for this awesome video! I'm gonna love learning this kata, and your performance was powerful and intense but also very fast, excellent work!
So great to follow along. Your kata is incredible!
Precision with controlled power.
Whoa! The speed of light. I wouldn't mess with someone who knows this kata!
Great video and great kata! This is the first time I have seen this kata.
Mr. Enkamp, I thank you.
You’re very welcome!
Sir I love your videos
I also recommend your channel to my other friends...
Btw Love From India🇮🇳
👊👊
Thanks sensei for giving me this heart
These are great. Keep them coming!
Dejar Jesse, very strong and practical kata. Excellent demostración.
Amazing! I am glad I can learn this from you sensei! Thank you!
Dang, I'm on the National Team for AAU and I definitely need to work on my forms. Excellent Job.
Wonderful perfomance, Jesse Sensei.
Dear Jesse, you've made an extraordinary work by editing this instructive video teaching us Ohan Dai kata. To answer to your question: "What kata do you wanna learn next?", I would reply, what about another video on Ohan Dai? But now, going one step further, instructing us on its BUNKAI. Once you've made this great job of breaking the kata down and teaching the external details, I believe it would be a waste of effort, time, and resources to move to another kata, without even taking advantage of all this work.
Beautiful Kata and very nice the form of explain it
Poder, fuerza, potencia, balance, coordinacion.... Perfeccion!!!! OSSU Sensei
Thank you karate Nerd I was looking for a new kata.
