In 1995 Inge Sargent came to the Barnes and Noble in Honolulu on a book signing event for her book Twilight Over Burma. I bought 2 of her books one for me and one for my niece. She signed them both and I chatted with her briefly, she was a very charming and gracious lady. I'm sorry about her passing and will always remember meeting her and still have her signed book in my book collection. For those interested the English version it was printed by the University of Hawaii Press in 1994.

The dictator responsible for her husband's death is Ne Win, a notorious general who took control of Myanmar (Burma) by Coup de'tat in 1962. Myanmar suffered many decades under his dictatorship and following military dictatorships. Myanmar is now in a revolutionary civil war where the civilian militias are fighting the military junta forces.

About the 'Prince', actually he is not from Burma's mainland Royal family from Mandalay. Myanmar has many ethnic groups and cultures. When the story happened, Myanmar is not under the rule of the Royal family anymore, but there are still remaining aristocratic familes especially from ethnic groups. He is the heir to the leader of the Shan State. So sad that many of this kind if untold stories happened and still happening till now. So many people lost their love ones, families and children. Hope everyone be safe. No more power struggles and no more war.

Those royals you are talking about are the ones from mainland Burma (Myanmar) who lived in Mandalay , central Myanmar.Myanmar has many states with different ethic minorities and although it was a “United” country , we had different royal families for different states. In this case , the prince is of the Shan dynasty, an ethnic group from the Shan state of Myanmar. And side note: the new generations of the royal family u mentioned originally are still here in Myanmar although most are long gone or can’t be traced due to the royals being shipped off to India after the British took over.

Burma adhered to the mandala system, where small tribal units, such as the Shan saophas (tribal leaders), were required to pay tribute to the central power of the Burmese kingdom. After the British overthrew the kingdom in 1885, the Burmese king and queen were exiled to India. However, the British maintained the small tribal vassal states as they were. These Shan saophas were later overthrown when General Ne Win seized power in Burma in 1962. Sao Kya Seng (Inge Eberhard’s husband) was the last saopha of Hsipaw.

Beautiful Love story. Unfortunately, their love story was short live. Burmese army Chief: Ne Win staged a coup and arrest King Sao, and their lovely family separated. They fled Burma ( now Myanmar) for their safety. Sadly, King Sao news never informed. Some people said he died in prison.
Previously, Tai or Shan rulers had agreement with British-Burma to rule their people under British rule and had own army to protect their land and to support British-Burma at that time early 1900s. In 1947, Shan together with other ethnic leaders signed agreement with General Aung San ( Aung San Suu Kyi's father) for Burma independence from British and form Federal Government in the future. In March 2, 1962, Myanmar Army Chief Ne Win staged a coup and all the dream of Democracy and federalism of Burma were lost by the Myanmar army.

He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. Then He was put into a tomb for 3 days, after that Abba Father raised Jesus to life.He appeared to people, and went back to heaven. We all must sincerely receive Jesus into our life to be God's child. See John 1:12 for this please. Will you today genuinely by faith receive Jesus into your life for salvation?
