Hi from America. My ex's grandfather was from the Royal House. When he left because he didn't believe in what Japan was going to do during the gearing up before World War II. He lost everything his title his inheritance his lands his family even his name. He also lost the right for his own person and his whole family in the future forever to come back to Japan and be buried not even their ashes can be brought back. It was very emotional. He had an arranged marriage they would not allow the girl to get out of it and she hated him for it. When war broke out he left in 1925, was married in 1928 She was sent on a ship and she was not allowed to get off the ship or go anywhere else she can escape unless he came and got her and married her on the ship That way she was trapped into the marriage basically. She was never happy because she had to give up her homeland because of him. When war broke out she sent the next day all of their money to Japan thinking that by doing so they would be deported instead in the FBI showed up wanted to know if he was a traitor but the local sheriff stood up for him and said no he is an honorable man who chose America over Japan back in the '20s. I know this man has lost a great deal to be here. His wife is lonely for her family she can never see again . His 12 children wouldn't thrive in a camp. Sheriff was able to convince investigators to drop the charges. My ex-husband's grandfather was very sweet man who loved America and felt devastated by what happened with his country being convinced that imperialism would make them a great nation. He had tried to convince his military bound relatives that the world had changed after World War I but they just needed to increase the country's GPA or they were going to sink and the only way they could see doing that was they need to bring in more raw materials which they could not afford to purchase So they decided to go to war instead of negotiation. It was an odd time and history he said. I got to meet him He said he had no regrets not staying He would never have obtained the throne his cousins were definitely in line for it He was one of the outer edge relatives and thus would have only obtained the throne if that whole family had been destroyed. Although he said the smaller the outer edge gets the less opportunity for the princesses to marry royalty without unfortunately marrying into incestuous relationships where you're literally marrying your first cousin He said his family went far enough back but not too close that big were viable as marriage material for the princesses and one of his uncle's was married Of course that would have been in the 1800s to one of the Royal princesses in the line but he would never have been in line for the throne because only male heirs were inherited but of course she luckily didn't have to give up her crown or live a totally what they call selfless life they become a nun to the goddess. It's a really rough situation when there aren't enough aristocrats out there for the young women to marry and continue to maintain their title and all their inheritance that's where he thought that was wrong and I see today that they have to give up everything but the young man doesn't he can marry whoever he wants That's not fair. It's just to make sure that the child of a woman who marries outside the line doesn't inherit the throne It's still a male dominated situation He was very forward thinking he made sure all his daughters went to college and even his youngest whom was not cared for or loved or appreciated in the manner that all the other children were and that was because her mother looked was so angry about having to be stay married for basically forced to marry this man who had already left the country and was gone but forced to marry him and then spend 5 years living in his mother's house learning to do everything exactly the way she did it that nothing would be out of place nothing would be a chair wouldn't be out of place etc that she would be able to use because she was constantly being tested about it. In the end he lost pretty much all of his family during the war. Even his parents died. They were living in the wrong places. All of his brothers died in the fight and his sisters well and they bombed the cities they were there He had tried to warn them this was not the way to go Not been the only one educated outside of Japan who went home and found out that it had decided to go to war. But many had had to change their mind if they wanted to stay home and stay with their families just stay apart of a life they'd always known. To be a part of their family, to be able to use their name. That dear man could never use his real name for the rest of his life He used his mother's family name as his name and he didn't go away without any money His other grandfather mother's side felt so sad about everything happening that he turned around and gave him and inheritance amount early so that he would be able to at least survive in America till he got a job. His job was with the The railroad he interpreted Chinese for them and he also was an engineer on building railroad which was a good time in the late 20s. Ps only reason husband are not married now is his mother wanted him to marry Japanese person. He wanted to marry me. Though he did and he tried really hard. She wasn't going to stop her harassment and he had a breakdown that I couldn't bring him out of. With his clinical team but I create that my leaving the picture was probably for the best.
Sad but inevitable outcome due to the rigid traditions of Japanese culture. Regrettable that you had to relinquish your marriage to his conflicting emotions. I hope that things turned out well for you. Not the same situation as yours but my mother(Japanese) was disinherited by her father when she married a hakujin (white). Mom suffered at first but she somehow overcame and lived a good life. So your tale struck somewhat close to home.
She only gave up her title, to marry who she preferred outside of it. The times need to change, have some leeway. Nothing is the same as it once was. Her parents did not abandon her, nor is she destitute.
Giving up the royal status was not their personal choice but determined prior by laws which was regulated during American occupation. Also at her marriage she received over 100 million allowance from the government. There is nothing to describe as abandon. Also, not mentioned by this video, she holds one of the most honorable positions in this country, Chief Priestess of Ise Shrine. She is still a public figure, not as this video claims as a random citizen.
Princess Nori never enjoyed having luxuries in her royal life. She always wear old clothes. She used Michiko's used Kimono for her wedding. It wasn't a family treasure. It was a just used kimono.
Personally, money or not, love or not, I would get out of that scene. Look at Masako- don't think that family is a ton of fun. Way too many royal rules and such.
her neice, the present emperor"s brother;s daughter also married a non royal. a student lawyer a few yrs ago. admire Princess Nori and her husband. two independent individuals. one can see the love in their eyes when they look at each other!. wow.
I think they need to change this. It’s not like they have any choices left from among the Japanese men in their circle. The nobility, which could have been a source of eligible candidates for the spouses of imperial princesses in the past, has been abolished. Why should princesses lose their ranks for something they can’t help?
So what if she has to wash a few dishes, pour her own tea or go shopping, she still lives a very comfortable life with no worries due to her royal background. She is still better off than many other Japanese people.
Interesting post but the narration is totally disconnected from the video in several places. Seems the poster threw together a collage of clips and voiced over with the narrative.
I took the same course. Now I live a happier life as a commoner. Without going through the protocols as a noble. Even if you're rushing to ease yourself in the restroom you need to wait after your bodyguards go through the restroom area clearing it for your private usage. In otherwords you have to wait for everything, you are never free to do anything in life.🤦♂️😊
I am a person from Japan. A half of this story is wrong! Nori had been raised by the policy of her mother ex- empress Mchiko to learn how to live frugally like a commoner since her childhood very solidly. She was trained in various commoners ' life settings and she received separate education to become a functional citizen as a commer directly from her mother, in addition to her regular loyal family's education. Nori is her loyal name, and her commoners' name is Sayako. (Saaya is her nickname). From day 1 of her marriage, she was witnessed to do grocery shopping , purchasing discounted produce, riding a bicycle. It is not true that she gradually learned how to live as a commoner after her marriage. Her husband did not choose his job to be that of a public sector for this marriage but he had been holding this job even before his marriage. (Also, not just because he wanted to live close to his wife's family so that he can let his wife emotionally support her parents, but also because he could disassociate himself, therefore his wife as well, from any politically or commercially attached position so that his wife's family (loyal family is always totally free from the possibility of being thrown into any scandal originating from them, which is their kindest consideration for the loyal family. BTW. her husband had been (before their marriage) known as, and still now is very famous as the most humble and kindest person among his coworkers, friends, people live around his house. If you make this kind of video, it is imperative to do thorough research!
As a matter of fact, just recently, from May 15 to June 1, 2024, all Japanese political parties agreed that women should keep their status upon marriage, but did not reach a conclusion on whether they can succeed to the throne, or as to the status of their husbands and children. (It's basically unofficial meeting and debate before future parlimentary session that has not been planned yet) This means that future Imperial Princess would be able to keep their status in a few more years. This, however, does not apply to Imperial Princess, who is already married to commoners like Princess Nori or Princess Kako. The 'did not reach conclusion' simply mean, they're still fighting with each other.
Many years ago, I learned there was an art class, and the teacher told Akihito I believe ,to draw a cabbage. He did not know what a real cabbage looked like so he drew sliced cabbage on a plate. I learned this from.
Ps. Allo me to correct and give some details about Empress Emerita Michiko. She is not an ordinary citizen, nor her love life as fairytale like you want to sound it to Cinderellas Story! She came from a prominient, wealthy Christian Family in Tokyo! She's been depress due to her mother in law Empress Kojun abusive behaviour who came from a Damnyo Family of Samurais!
The difference between Princess Nori and Prince Harry Mountbatten Windsor is that Nori left royalty behind to actually live a simple life. Harry left royalty supposedly to find privacy but ended up always the center of publicity because his wife is a famewhore. Nori is content with her simple life ; Harry misses the trappings of royalty.
Princess Nori is far from living in a rural tiny home. Her "simple" life still consists of living in a big house in Japan and even enjoys expensive activities such as flying to America for vacations and to go shopping. She still gets stalked by Japanese paparazzi.

It has nothing to do with a simple life. She left the Imperial family with a big check because she had no other choice when marrying a commoner. To remain in the imperial family would have meant marrying an old cousin (and risking having a baby with a defect) as the imperial family has very small number of people.
The ultra-conservative Japanese courtiers at the Imperial Household, that almost broke Empress Masako, are the problem. Stiff protocol and endless rules. Much worse than in Britain. Good for her to have escaped that cage.
Princess Nori, As a result of her marriage, she gave up her imperial title and left the Japanese Imperial Family, as required by the Article 12 of the Imperial Household Law, and received a payment of approximately US$ 1 million. I think they did alright, a common person's broke, is not the same as a royal person's broke. LOL!!
The narration says that the Japanese Imperial family dates back as far back as "97 BC", yet shows "907BC" at 0:45. Which is it? Many Princesses have left the Imperial Family. One married a Shinto priest, and is a Shinto priestess herself, from memory.
Sounds like a lovely woman, who made a wise choice. Life doesn't always let us be happy. We should grab it with both hands when we can. I'd be curious to know how the Japanese people feel about Royalty being booted out for marrying commoners?? I know I'd have an issue with it, but respect there may be cultural differences. Also, how large is the pool of acceptable spouses?? I realized I have never heard these things addressed.
Interesting that she's nicknamed "Seaweed." Whatever the case, she is still and always a princess, no matter what she decided. Born into such strictures, she has chosen work, love and freedom. She has behaved like an honorable woman, truly fitting. Good for her!
The royal families of northern Europe did this years ago but in Japan the Royals had almost Divine status in the past and were more isolated from the general population. I think she was brave. The British need to losen up a little more too. The stress on younger members has been showing.
I’ve also learned that Mother of Akihito is Korean, and she is one of the descendent of royal families from Baekje Kingdom which lasted 700 years from 18 BCE to 660CE. Baekje was one of the three kingdoms(Baekje, Shinla, Goguryeo)on the Korean Peninsula.
i dont think so. japanese R is unique. the sound is like combination of R and L. from what i see, they only use rolling R when they want to sound badass.
@@rhymeister @user-sc3oh1bw4z No. It's rolled, just not rolled as long as it is in Spanish. The R-L problem is what happens when they try to not roll either one, since there is no equivalent in Japanese.
In Japan, only men can inherit the imperial throne. It was adopted by Emperor Meiji. This is the influence of samurai families. However, because he plays a role within the imperial system, he is recognized by the people as a special person.

Being royalty in Japan is mostly for ceremonies only.
The Princess of late had made a good decision.
A truely remarkable Lady... True Royalty!!!
She could have ended up like Princess Margaret. Sayako's choices were very good ones.
The power of true love exudes through this beautiful story.
Princess Nori shows how to gracefully leave a Royal Family with class and dignity. ❤
I doubt her family left her penniless…
Princess Nori never enjoyed having luxuries in her royal life. She always wear old clothes. She used Michiko's used Kimono for her wedding. It wasn't a family treasure. It was a just used kimono.
Personally, money or not, love or not, I would get out of that scene. Look at Masako- don't think that family is a ton of fun. Way too many royal rules and such.
her neice, the present emperor"s brother;s daughter also married a non royal. a student lawyer a few yrs ago. admire Princess Nori and her husband. two independent individuals. one can see the love in their eyes when they look at each other!. wow.
“The answer you question “ I don’t think anyone questioned that they are happily after ..
Good for her!
Wealth u can’t bring with u when u die..so y not enjoy life..She made the right decision to follow her ❤
Yes happiness is the most impt.because life is short the simplier you are the more happier you are thank you for sharing this vedio I learn a lot
Princess of The Ordinary Japanese People
Love your story, Thank you❤
Interesting post but the narration is totally disconnected from the video in several places.
I appreciate comments like this. I agree, a lot of this type of videos failed to do due diligence in researching before posting... @@AM-hi8wc
Interesting
She follow her hearts, good for her
Tiaras are not regalia. They’re expensive, but they’re fashion, not crowns.
Permanent smile 😊
The Japanese are clearly undergoing a change at the psychological level. Not only with the aristocracy but with the general population, as well.
Choose with a good man or woman, love and contentment every time. 🙏♥️
So much drama, tradition and rituals. It’s liberating to just let go.
in people's eyes she always a princess.
She will always be the princess and she knows it too. But now she has the freedom AND wealth to be herself.
My choice would be love and contentment.
For example ,they can work and jobs connecting to your countries ,Embassy and other jobs .
Many years ago, I learned there was an art class, and the teacher told Akihito I believe ,to draw a cabbage. He did not know what a real cabbage looked like so he drew sliced cabbage on a plate. I learned this from.
love is pure than money.
Pricess Michiko has been a extraordinary woman and Aristocrate, the serene Japan Empress. She is remarkable to me😊
It's not Alaska state, AKASAKA state Tokyo.
😅🤣😂
Akasaka isn't a state, she meant Akasaka estate, which is where they live.
😂
You have no idea how much freedom she got when she got out of that royal family
I think she's the real Princes, not afraid of Lossing many things.
They did have Empress's. Why they insist on male line now ,is interesting.
love her story...
Im new to your Chanel ❤ Beautiful love story
The difference between Princess Nori and Prince Harry Mountbatten Windsor is that Nori left royalty behind to actually live a simple life. Harry left royalty supposedly to find privacy but ended up always the center of publicity because his wife is a famewhore. Nori is content with her simple life ; Harry misses the trappings of royalty.
Princess Nori is far from living in a rural tiny home. Her "simple" life still consists of living in a big house in Japan and even enjoys expensive activities such as flying to America for vacations and to go shopping. She still gets stalked by Japanese paparazzi.
@eduardojaniola4759. The vile bile spilling from you about the Duke & Duchess of Sussex suggests you are a snivelling sychophantic follower of theirs. You are obviously fascinated with them but hate yourself for doing so. Here is the solution to your problem.....don't follow them.🤭😂
It has nothing to do with a simple life.
LOL!!
Some pictures don;t go with the story.
The narration says that the Japanese Imperial family dates back as far back as "97 BC", yet shows "907BC" at 0:45. Which is it? Many Princesses have left the Imperial Family. One married a Shinto priest, and is a Shinto priestess herself, from memory.
I love the story , for the commoners
Congrats
Emperor's lineage is patriachal meaning continuation of Y chromosome passed down from over 2000 years ago.
Well, law can be changed, but love remains
Michiko came from a wealthy family, I heard
Even she wants to marry royal , there is no more male royals in japan for her to marry with
Love & contentment.
Love and commitment ❤
Leave her alone let her live her life…
talk about humility. that's what you call, you married for love not for money, unlike the spoiled entitled harry and megan
You don’t know what you are talking about. Why bring Harry and Meghan into this? You are ignorant of the truth.
Prince Harry chose love over royalty as well ❤❤
Akasaka or Alaska? 5:48
LOL, I just saw the sign. 😂😂😂
The royal families of northern Europe did this years ago but in Japan the Royals had almost Divine status in the past and were more isolated from the general population. I think she was brave. The British need to losen up a little more too. The stress on younger members has been showing.
Hope her husband appreciates her.
Interesting...BUT ....very confusing.
As long as her husband doesn’t cheat is good because if he cheats she loses more on this.
Akihito's sisters were also required to leave the family once they wed, so Sayako isn't the first under the new law.
She still noble by blood not by tittle...shes a real noble by blood and by heart ordained by God....
No matter what she does, her bloodline would always make her an interesting person.
"Just keep watching" ad infinitum...
Love & contentment of course
“King of Baudouin of Belgium” - does no one check the vocal track before they release these videos?
I’ve also learned that Mother of Akihito is Korean, and she is one of the descendent of royal families from Baekje Kingdom which lasted 700 years from 18 BCE to 660CE. Baekje was one of the three kingdoms(Baekje, Shinla, Goguryeo)on the Korean Peninsula.
Average Japanese has more Yayoi DNA than Jomon. Guess where the Yayoi people entered Japan from???
Y
Didn't she received a amount of money as she became 20th yrs of age.
It looks like she was stripped of any benefits or rights!
I choose love and contentment over luxury, wealth, and fame’s.
money helps! :)
Interesting love story btw in Japanese language like in Spanish the [r] is rolled: Nori
i dont think so. japanese R is unique. the sound is like combination of R and L. from what i see, they only use rolling R when they want to sound badass.
No, it's more a tweener between L and R, which is why average Nihonijin has issues with R-words in Engrish.
