Super informative video! The C40 was my first high end console controller and I had no idea how the trigger stop function worked or what its for but you definitely helped clear it all up!
You are my hero! I tried to figure this out in the app but utterly failed. It never occurred to me to drag the dots. As for non-racing games using percentages, I'm pretty sure that some of the Assassin's Creed games that use R2 for running do make you run faster the further the trigger is pressed, which is _incredibly_ annoying IMHO, since you really either want to be running at full speed or not be running. You certainly don't want to be running at 90%, because you didn't pull the trigger quite far enough. It is my experience though that very few games actually use the triggers as triggers rather than buttons, which makes it pretty terrible that they're triggers for the vast majority of games (I've actually really liked that the Switch Pro Controller really has buttons there rather than triggers, much as some folks like to complain about that). The Astro C40's solution does seem like a pretty good one though - except for the fact that locking the triggers doesn't make them automatically act the way that you explained how to do in this video.
I am very glad that I was able to assist you!!! Thank you for the view comment and feedback!!!! I am very surprised that they don't function as a button with the stops enabled, Astro commented somewhere and said the triggers travel a 0-255 range and the developers can pick anywhere in that range to be the action point (the only game I know uses them in percentages is racing for braking and accelerating) but because of this is makes it difficult for the controller to be the one confusing the program in an on/off type press because it actually has to send all 0-255 commands. I hope we will see a fix/update for this in the future. For now it is making me wonder if I will actually have better ads/fire rates using l1/r1 where possible....
Thanks! Answered my quesiton about trigger stops. I want to map the UL and UR to Sprint (L3) and Melee (R3)and am disappointed this isn't included in the options. Having two functions on one control has always been a bad move, but necessary because of a lack of buttons, i.e. combing movement and sprint onto the L3. Hopefully, Astro will include this as an option soon so we can get the most out of a $200 controller.
I need to revise my comment. Just figured out I can assign UL and UR to Sprint (L3) and Melee (R3). I can now use the UL and UR buttons like I want. BUT, it doesn't remove those functions from the L3 and R3 buttons. So, now I have two functions for sprint (L3 and UL) and melee (R3 and UR). While this isn't perfect (I want one function per button), it's an improvement. Hopefully, Astro will provide an option that removes those functions when you assign them to another button, i.e. remove the sprint from L3 because you assigned it to UL button. Anyway, enjoy the controller!
@@SincereEddy you should also be able to trick l3 and r3 to nothing.... Program them to the under button, since the under button is normally nothing any button you program to be them will be nothing. So enter programming mode push L3 then push one of the under buttons.
@@SynTechGaming Thanks for the quick response! When I open up Mapping (at top of screen it says Button and Command), the option to choose UL or UR doesn't exist when I click on the L3 or R3 Command. The only options to choose from from are the standard commands. It would be nice if Icould screen shot it.
@@SincereEddy it's not an option in the program you will have to attempt to do it with just the controller using the program button on the back of it. I have not tried to program L3/r3 to nothing but I have successfully programmed square, triangle, circle to nothing this way. Push and hold programming button to enter programming mode, you will feel a vibration, then push the button you want to be nothing then push one of the under buttons.
I’d like to thank you for this video man lol this is my first pro controller. All that tweaking in the button mapping looked like matrix text lmao to me. I get it now. Can’t wait to tweak my analogs now that I get what the dots and stuff mean.
helpful video, I was havin this problem too, I dont play racing game but I play AC syndicate which has carriages as the main vehicles in the game, I had my trigger stop enabled but when I pull it to move my vehicle, it does move but slowly, I even thought that was the highest speed the horse could run, but I was wrong when I disabled it, damn the carriage went like a Ferrari, same with the brake, I couldnt stop it immediately, it took the c40 a while to realize that I was pulling the L2 so hard, another problem in GOW4, I couldnt aim and throw my axe, goddamn it
Can you program a button sequence ? Example - up then right on joystick it activates a skill move. Can I program that on the back triggers to just press a single button ?
I struggle tweaking the percentages with guns with various rpms in order to give me a “competitive” advantage... particular with destiny 2 and for an example 180 rpm hand cannons. Have you seen differences in performance in various weapons that are not automatic? Also the only issue I’ve come across is my R2 is making a rubbing noise and theirs resistance when moving the thumbstick. I’ve already replace the right module and the issue came back again.
Someone on Reddit posted about their analog sticks squeaking and this is what a Astro mod said It would be best to speak with our support team about this. If they class it as a defect, we should be able to replace these for you. I honestly couldn't say if this would go away after a week or so of use so best to speak to support first. So I would recommend you reach out to Astro support. So the triggers you can edit them from 0-100% somewhere in this value, (each game is different depending how it is programmed) so destiny might register 20% pull as the spot for firing or 40% or 60% depending on how it is programmed. you may want to set all the editable dots at the same value for a couple of test sessions to figure out what the value is that the game registers as a shot. then knowing the value you can then set it at the % of motion you want it to register at. Hope this helps!
SynTech Gaming yeah, man. I already have had a replacement sent to me. Unfortunately, the second one started doing the same. I love the controller, but I’m also seeing a slight issue with the deadzone issue. Even though my sens is up, with a game like destiny, you press in analog stick to run. If you plug it up with it been pressed in, there is a visible deadzone until you manually pull the analog stick out to get that full range of motion. The support team should be getting my original analog stick in for testing.. as far as the %’s I have basically done what you’ve showed up n the video. I guess per game their can be more tweaking to optimize it more. Another question I’m trying to figure out is how to tweak the sound frequencies since it is a feature. I’m not that familiar with sound frequencies. So, I’m not sure which ones to adjust to hear what I would prolly help me in game.
I don’t have an Astro headset. I simply use the earphones supplied from my iPhone, but could you make a video going into the sound presents to better hear things needed in competitive gaming? Thanks
A few people have asked for a video going over the EQ settings. I will be focusing on and researching this next and hope to have the video produced this week!
I honestly have been using mine at the default settings and enjoying it. Some people are reporting increasing each option 5% so 25,45,65,85 and this makes it closer to the default PS4 analog. Increasing the first option reduces dead zone and I found it caused too much movement to quickly personally. I wish there was an option for just adjusting the deadzone without changing sensitivity. I have not made a video about this yet. I'm debating making one since it is such personal preference, but I am thinking of making a video analog stick focused in order to help teach/explain how to set them up. Let me know your thoughts on this if you want! I heard a rumor they are making new modules with either adjustable or stiffer springs so I was also thinking about waiting until I see/get those.
Hey, awesome video. My trigger stops cap at about 50%/100% on the left trigger and 40%/100% on the right trigger (when trigger locks are on).. yours also appear to be different. Is this any concern? Or no? Seems odd for $200 that the trigger stops aren’t equal.. thanks for the help!
Thanks for the view, comment, and feedback! Yes, with my trigger stops enabled my left trigger travels almost to 60% and my right trigger stops just at or before 40% so there is about a 20% variance in my triggers. Yes, this bothers me personally, I would love to see both the triggers hard stop at 40/45% so that you could edit them exactly how you wanted at the 40% mark. This would make the most sense to me. I can not think of any way that this will have a negative impact on the function on the controller, if you have the trigger stops enabled just make sure they are hitting 100% before the trigger stops naturally, I like it to hit 100% asap so I set the first movable dot (20% motion) to 100% for my shooter games. The only game I can think of that uses the trigger in an actually variable percentage is racing games for throttle and brake and I will set the trigger stops off and return the graph to the normal 0-100% for full control/travel. I reached out to Astro support over the differences in my trigger travel with stops enabled, the representative that responded also sent a screenshot of his triggers with about a 10% variance and said this is normal not to worry. Others have also posted in this Reddit about the 10-15% variance with trigger stops enabled, so it seems normal, although I think this is an area for improvement. I hope this helps!
Or you can go to the ps settings ,go to accesabilty, then button layout. There. you can do a custom button layout. You can then remap the L1 AND R1 . So games that dont allow you to remap buttons, this will for all games. And you can switch it back to default at any time and then switch it back to custom. Nice feature. Me personally I tried the under buttons for shooting and zoom. But dont like it. But fir those who do I would suggest that.
Great information, thank you! Wish I would have thought about the accessibility options before I made the video so I could have included it in the video.
@@SynTechGaming all good man. Thanks for the videos on this controller. I learned a few things I didn't know. I wanted more info on the trigger customization and that helped me to figure that out. I'm going to try to make the R3 not work. Cause every time I get in a gun fight I accidentally hit the stupid melee button and I die. Anyway great videos. Thank you
Thanks for the info! My main question about the trigger stops is the sensitivity. I play a fighting game where i would like my R2 press to register when im about half way down, not at a hair trigger. So i adjusted my R2 to be at 0 percent for the 1st 2, then 100 for the 3rd and on. Sync remote, and try on game, but still my R2 goes off on a hair trigger like its 100 percent for the 1st 0...for games where the r2 is a on off is it possible that it will still register a R2 press even though i have all 0s for R2?
Apparently, some games do this even if you do have the triggers set to all 0. I think even with them set to zero they are still showing a small 1% for some reason and this is causing games that only require 1% pull to react at the smallest movement. This has been brought up on Reddit Astro gaming and I believe is being looked into by Astro. I will do some more research on this specific topic and reply when I can but I know it has been brought up.
@@SynTechGaming Thank you for the reply ❤ That is great to know it is something that has at least been brought up. Looks like that astro gaming reddit is the best place to keep up with this stuff. Thank you once again, and i would greatly appreciate a reply if you here any new i formation on this stuff. One last thing to that i wanted to bring up to Astro is just a small detail. The white instruction paper that comes with the controller (under the tab for paddle mapping) in fact says that you can map R2 and L2 to the back buttons. Not sure if that is a typo or what, but definitely interesting.
So I did a lot of digging on Reddit to find this post again, but this is the best information I can give you on the trigger situation you are dealing with. You could try setting all of the options to 0, the last setting that you can not change is 100% so even if you set them all to 0 as long as you don't have the trigger stops enabled it will still register 100% at full pull. IF you have them set to 0 and at the start of your trigger pull the game is still registering it I would try doing a reset on the controller ( with the little tiny button underneath the reset button that requires a paper clip size utensil to press it). If it is still occurring after this I would reach out to Astro support. Here is a link to the thread on Reddit about this, if you are not familiar with Reddit the response by ASTRO_Vertigo, is an official Astro representative. www.reddit.com/r/AstroGaming/comments/b6khlg/fortnite_c40_trigger_sensitivity_adjustments_do/ I know for a fact they are aware of the L2/R2 mapping this is one of the most talked about things and yeah it says it in the instruction papers and other official statements from Astro online, This is for sure something they are looking at to get fixed asap...
Hello I play Fortnite. I just got the Astro. It seems my triggers are too sensitive. I barely rest my finger on trigger and I’ll start shooting. Is there a video showing how to turn down the sensitivity?
I haven't made a video for turning down the sensitivity specifically. Just take the sliders and put them all down to 0 and try it. Then if you want it more sensitive move the slider farthest right up some and try again.
So. All the videos I've seen no one either notices or is scared to press it. But it's the little black button between the back buttons. You use it to remap the controller without having to go to the software. You press and hold till it vibrates, white light will blink you press anything you want to change like, UL , then press what you want it to be , like X for jump, and it will vibrate again. Boom remapped. Then repeat for another one.
Correct, I guess it would have been good to talk about that feature in this video as well. I did talk about it in my first video of this controller, the unboxing video ruclips.net/video/Fuxshx_trSY/видео.html Apparently, you can also press the button to enter programming and press it again without pressing anything else and it is supposed to recenter the analog sticks to correct drift issues. I haven't confirmed this at this time yet though. There is also a smaller reset button below it. Thank you for the comment and view, I will probably attach this information in the description/pinned comment because it probably should have been included in the video!
@@Childishh_Brandino biggest secret i Have found is the recenter of the analog sticks and pressing and holding the ps button for about 8 seconds turns the controller off. Let me know if you find any others!
The only problem I’ve had here is that I can map anything to the under buttons except L2 and R2. I tried mapping them through the software as well and it syncs it fine but it still isn’t mapped when you play the game. This is only for R2 and L2. I ended up having to do the workaround like he does but I hope they address this at some point. Otherwise it’s a magnificent controller.
The only problem I'm having with the Astro is how do I check the battery level on the controller and when I'm charging it how do I know when it's fully charged. Also do I put it in wired or wireless mode when I'm charging it?
So there is no way to check the battery level that I have found. It doesn't matter if it is in wired or wireless mode it will charge if receiving power through the cord. The light turns on orange when charging if I remember correctly when I woke up this morning the light was out indicating a full charge. I will research the battery level thing and check controller in the morning for light status and update with another reply! Thanks for the view and comment!
Okay so after researching everything I could on the battery and charge indicators I found these two statements. In wired mode, a solid amber(orange) light means the controller is charging. A solid white light means the controller is fully charged. In wireless mode a blinking amber(orange) light means the battery is low (no % provided) a solid white light means the battery is fully charged,
From my personal testing I have done, when fully charged in wireless mode white light comes on, charging is orange. wired mode charging is orange full charged in light is off- (this is connected to my surge protector)

USe the programming button on the controller after you enter programming mode, press the button you don't want to do anything then press one of the under buttons
Anybody experiencing stick drift please hold the button at the back of controller for 3 seconds, then don't touch anything till you hear another vibrate 30 seconds later. Don't do the press and hold for 3 seconds, release, then press and hold for another few seconds, that just re centers the sticks, not fully recalibrating them. Also just holding the button down for 30 seconds factory resets the controller. Someone please try this and let me know it works. ASTRO official video guide ruclips.net/video/YutfrEuT5y8/видео.html a lot of people are just ignoring this video and following a user comment online. Please like or upvote so people see this, thank you.
Both methods do work for re-calibrating the analog sticks. One saves you 30 seconds, the other keeps you from accidentally moving the sticks by not doing the second press and hold. Holding the programming button down for 25-30 seconds does a soft reset of the controller, it wipes the profiles/programming back to default. A hard reset is preformed with a paperclip with the smaller hole. Thanks for the information and link to the official video, it is always nice to have more than one way to do the same thing.

I'm going to try to make the R3 not work. Cause every time I get in a gun fight I accidentally hit the stupid melee button and I die. Anyway great videos. Thank you
Do you play apex? Whats your sensitivity set up for that game?

I know for a fact they are aware of the L2/R2 mapping this is one of the most talked about things and yeah it says it in the instruction papers and other official statements from Astro online, This is for sure something they are looking at to get fixed asap...
How can ich put r2 on my right paddle?
Love the info. Just got the controller yesterday an I fuck omg love it
YES!!!!!! Thank you for the view and comment!
I did talk about it in my first video of this controller, the unboxing video ruclips.net/video/Fuxshx_trSY/видео.html
Apparently, you can also press the button to enter programming and press it again without pressing anything else and it is supposed to recenter the analog sticks to correct drift issues. I haven't confirmed this at this time yet though.
There is also a smaller reset button below it.
Thank you for the comment and view, I will probably attach this information in the description/pinned comment because it probably should have been included in the video!
@@SynTechGaming oh ok. Nice. Imma try that. Yeah I'm just watching vids to see if I miss any features lol.
@@FVCK- your software allows you to select L2/R2 as an option? My software won't even let me select them.
Is there a way to disabled UR and UL buttons?
Enter programming and just press the same under button twice in a row
SynTech Gaming thanks dude
You're welcome!
In Battlefront 2 I've found that the Heavy is unable to use Sentry Mode with the Trigger Stop enabled.
Have you adjusted the trigger sensitivity to make sure they are hitting 100% before stopping?
Thanks for this video I bought this controller for my ps4 a week ago cause I’m horrid lol
You're welcome! Practice makes perfect! You got this!
SynTech Gaming thanks bro ima trying lol

Thank you for the view, comment, and support!
my paddles don't work when i map them in the software. when i play a game the paddles don't work

How do you get the other buttons to not work.
USe the programming button on the controller after you enter programming mode, press the button you don't want to do anything then press one of the under buttons
It's the two under buttons I dont want to use.
I got them off. Thanks for your help
@@hectorb2790 You're welcome.
@@hectorb2790glad you got it figured out. Also, just so you know, default profile two settings the under buttons are off.
Someone please try this and let me know it works.

a lot of people are just ignoring this video and following a user comment online.
Trigger stops were made for FPS games especially for single fire weapons.
Agreed, that is why I am surprised when you enable the trigger stops it doesn't make them act like an on/off switch automatically. So I made this video to help! Thanks for the view and comment!
Is anthem causing havoc on your ps4?
No issues in the last 2-3 weeks since the patches that addressed crashing. What issues are you having?
@@SynTechGaming I got the game when it came out and as you heard, it crapped out shutdown and on some cases it would brick ps4's. I'd be able to play for a span of 20 minutes at most, but then it just froze up and kept kicking me.
I loved the game but I took it off because I didn't want my ps4 to crash.I play the division and division 2
@@plussizeriderlifeshardbike9318 Yeah I was having crash issues like most people until about 2-3 weeks ago, haven't had a single crash since they did that patch. There have been a lot of other improvements as well, I would recommend coming back and checking it back out!
@@SynTechGaming for real? Cause I did love that game, I had a badass looking ranger javelin lol.. Do you also play the division 1&2.. Btw your sensitivity settings I'm gonna tryout later cause I got my c40tr the other day
I have that problem and the next problem is that I dont own a PC
You don't have to have one, I used my c40 controller for a day before deciding to hook it up and update it. However, I would recommend getting it updated next time you do have access to a pc.
Literally call of duty
Fortnite is like racing games
