I just got mine tuned a few flights ago, and it flies quite nicely for a cheap er… inexpensive Chinese foam winged plane. Some caveats to get to perform correctly. There is NO way the flying weight is 1050g Out of the box all the parts total 1215 g after removal of the cockpit/pilot and addition of a 12 g Rx Flying weight with a 1300 mAh battery and addition of 7 g tail balance weight is 1320 + 1350 g It is not a hotliner. Ignore all the mods for 2200 mAh batteries, wheel removal etc… to fly powered for 15 min. Just climb for 30-50 seconds and fly thermal or light slope for an hour. Splitting the Ail & Flap servo leads for full crow mix is a nice touch if you already have 7 channels. You can then land with crow in calm wind, and power in stronger wind. I got mine from HobbyKing US warehouse this month for $110. A "useful plane " in my book (simple set-up, many years of use) I have a ST Models DG1000, but this performs significantly better in the same conditions, and the DG1000 was the same price 8 years ago.
Thanks for the info! I've also had the same DG1000 in the past, and just ordered the Volantex ASW28 V2 to get back in to model gliding. I also like the simplicity of the front motor with folding prop instead of the vulnerable "klaptriebwerk" of the DG1000. Looking forward to flying the ASW!
I enjoyed your review. Very blunt and honest. I have this motor glider... It's extremely critical that you get the center of gravity exact such that the plane balances dead even on the indicated CG points on both wings. This will keep the incidence angle just right and the plane will thermal quite nicely. Like you said, the plane doesn't like too low of a speed and this is true. For landing, I use the flaps with a little bit of down elevator mixed in to keep the attitude slightly down while still slowing the plane down. I work the elevator between neutral and down during landings to keep just enough speed for the ailerons to still 'bite'.
+JaleelJohanson62 Tanks for your reply. Now that it gets warmer I will try to fly again soon. Perhaps I will mix a bit like you have. I have been mixing the rudder with the ailerons since sometimes I make a mistake when using the rudder and ailerons together, or in panic situations I make a mistake or am afraid I make a mistake. I really need to fly more.
I mix about 30% rudder with the ailerons. It works great with smoothing things out for nice controlled shallow turns when trying to stay in small thermals. Have fun! Piloting will come with practice...
Thanks. We don't have much time these days, so it's been a long time since last upload. But there is a new rc plane coming for sale soon that has got us excited. We will eventually get it, make reviews and other videos again.
Very good review! Nice quality video, and good, helpful commentary! Liked and subscribed... I've been looking at this plane from Hobbyking.com (about $140 shipped to me in Iowa, USA), but wondered if you've found a better choice yet (since this was uploaded back in 2015). I really like the look of this plane, but I'm scared to death that it's gonna be another hobbyking POS, which seems to be the state of being for most planes at hobbyking. I currently have a Horizon Hobby Consendo S, which is EXCELLENT, and the SAFE makes for SUPER EASY flights, but you can turn it (safe) off and do some mild acrobatics too! I once was flying and for over 18 minutes without throttle, and the plane kept climbing! When I couldn't take the neck pain from looking strait up, I spent over 10 seconds with the plain in a strait down dive to return it to about 100 feet, for easier flying. The Consendo S is a great rc plane and glider, but I really like the look of this model. P.S. I am a pretty good rc pilot, but haven't slope soared yet, and would love to do it with a plane like this, even though the Consendo S would probably work okay. I'm just an scale RC enthusiast, so if I can get this scale looking plane, for me, it'd really enhance my experience.
Hello and thank you :) I have not been flying much lately or been looking for another plane. Both my brother and I have had more to do lately, and also, we both have been focusing on other hobbies. I am not very updated now and cant give you much advice I'm afraid. It must have been a very nice experience to climb for 18 minutes with no throttle :) Could you still easily see the plane? It can be hard sometimes when the plane gets to far up and you start to loose visibility. We have not tried slope soaring either but it looks like it's fun.
im curious if you set the motor brake. this stops the prop the second you go ZERO throttle,. if you did NOT program the throttle brake that is your flight problem. this gliders prop will continue to spin when 'OFF' acting as a air brake and causing immense drag. the glider comes /default with propeller brake OFF.
I can't remember but I'm pretty sure the prop just folds back and stops right away. The prop is broken and I don't know when I will have time to repair and fly, since I just started school.
Onkelaasmund if you didn't set the prop brake.....while the glider is airborn the prop will 'windmill' from the airspeed....this will slow the glider down quite a bit....but do your schoolwork first ! LOL
I would propose your review was quite inappropriate. This is a very very excellent flying airplane. I would guess your review is based on your experience and capabilities.
What? Agreed, it is an excellent flyer plus for the cost, a bargain, But any opinion is just that... most know, it was his, not yours, hence I feel very appropriate. it was an informative viewpoint! Oh, pay attention he did say he was not an expert... but looked smooth flyer to me which is also appropriate to note Lol Naa, the bush landing gave it away!
How did you assure that both planes were at the same height when released from high start or cutting off power? This would affect flight/glide times and your test results.
HAVE BROUGHT THIS GLIDER FROM HK ONCE YOU PAYED YOU PLAY THE WAITING GAME BEEN SEVEN WORKING DAYS COURIER DRIVER HAVING THE TIME OF HE;S LIFE WITH MY ASW 28 HK DONT WANT TO KNOW
well is not an high performance glider but if you know how to beat it i bet you can put your friends at shame......................i own 3 glider until now all 3 functional with 3 diferent uses and ai can tell you this glider for slope soaring is great i get thermals with ease

Spot on review, I own one and not easy to fly and thermal, but she is beautiful and in calm weather a great graceful glider
My answer to the easily cracked cockpit canopy was to fit mini magnets instead

Great video. You hit on some very salient points without fanfare. Subscribed.

Good review. Is yours V1 or 2?Mine is due any time now,and I plan to FPV it this year.
V1 I guess. From the order description "ASW28 Electric Sailplane EPO/Plastic 2540mm (PNF) = $109.40"
Definitely the V1 with the wooden wing cross spar. The V2 has a plastic latch to hold the wings together.
