I have been an RC pilot most of my life and have never flown Sailplanes. I recently have shown interest in trying them and my Father, which is my best friend and flown RC as long as I have been alive, Showed me this one and I believe its going to be my first glider. Great video. Thanks
That's great that you guys are sharing such an awesome hobby together! I also fly with my Dad as often as I get the chance and he is the person that got me started in this hobby as well. Glad our video helped!
A few tips. If you have a receiver with more than 4 channels, don't use a Y harness for the ailerons. Give them individual channels, then you can use them ( the ailerons) to mix reflex and camber of the wing, and even use them as flaps when landing. And while on the wing, sand it smooth, get rid of all those marks from the mold. It reduces drag. But it's a beautiful glider and I think it will do great on warm summer days with lots of thermals.
One caution on the low end radios, they use snap in battery boxes for both the transmitter and receiver. Those type battery boxes have a serious problem with corrosion causing a loss of signal, when that happens the plane can crash because the radio quit working. Its a good idea to replace the batteries with rechargeable batts that plug in connection, this almost totally eliminates the problems. If you must use the dry batteries use alkaline batts, and clean the connections inside the battery boxes and the ends of the batts with alcohol and don't touch them with your fingers. This will reduce the risk but not eliminate it, I recommend replacing all the batts with rechargeable batts that plug in and not snap in, gold plated plugs recommended.
Hi there people :) a slightly more modern looking glider this time :D The brand is not-at-all known over here, but it looks just fine! Maybe putting on flaps would be a nice modification?? :) If you come on over I can do it for you offcourse ;) Nice review again! :D Cheers
Yeah this does look a bit more modern, which is really nice! Love how it looks! Flaps would be nice for landings on this glider because it does need a lot of room to slow down. Thanks Dutch!
This could very easily hold a mobius, and I think you should get one and shoot some footage and share it with us! Love the price and really is a very nice plane. Thanks NJ!
Nope. Hmm.. I thought it showed how to do this in the manual. Exactly what I said below but that extra bat wire is just a balance wire for charging. The battery ONLY plugs in to the larger wire on the ESC, then it plugs into the motor and the Rx. Tx manual should tell you how to do it too.
Nate, Abbey, Do you still recommend this as a first plane/glider? I've not seen terribly much about it on the RCGroups forums of late and most everyone there recommends the rather spendy Radian or Multiplex models. How has it held up since the time of the review? Have you flown it since? Thanks!
Yes, this is in a good price range to be a persons first glider. It's easy to recommend an expensive RC =^) I've flown it a handful of times since filming this review and it's holding up nicely. I always pass the controls over to anyone willing to fly it as well, as I do not worry about a new pilot flying this at all.
Thanks so much for the extra info and recommendation! I purchased the Dromida Ominus and Kodo after watching your video reviews on them, so I know I'll love the ASW-28 as well. Keep up the great work!
ok I bought this from tower and received it today along with 2 batterys that u suggested. I'm new to electric so this is what I'm not sure of.. I know I need to do the adapter for the main flight battery but how do I hook that battery to my receiver?
Your receiver should have instructions that show where to plug each thing in, like rudder, elevator, etc.. one of which is the power line. Bat plugs in to motor, then motor to esc, then esc to RX and so on and so forth. Hope that helps!
Go ahead and grab that check book Jim. My Dad has this plane now as well and when he flies it he can and usually will get 40+ minutes of flight on a single charge! We love this plane :)
I suppose I've been flying off and on for a little while, maybe something like 4-5 years but there was a large gape between the second and third years. Thanks a lot 4th for stopping by!
so ur a foam kid, man i went through like 10 balsa planes before i was confident enough to bring the plane home in the same shape it left. i love the foamies but theres nothing like a balsa plane
I ended up ordering the ST Salto....sorry I already forgot the name..duh...I even had enough for a battery. Guess what? Bonus....free shipping till the 23rd of this month.lol. I win again....
Swap out the esc and use a 3s battery foe better climb. This thing loops beautifully but rolls are SLOOOOOOW. Great on the slope: ruclips.net/video/FFXbhaRZZXA/видео.html
+TheRcSaylors It just seemed shaky to me Nate. I know its foam and you will get that with any plane. I watched the Xjet video's and saw how floppy the tail had gotten on one of the guys tail like that. Well, after reviewing lots of planes and actually a Groupner plane that was pretty much an Identical plane,I ordered the plane I liked first with the popup motor. I looked at several types, the prop type, and there were different versions but longer wing spans. I decided it would be best to get one that the wings were a bit shorter and I wanted something that I could do a little rolling and loops if I wanted. Its something different too. I know flite test did a review of the Groupner version and gave the rates and expos so it will fly like a dream. I had a hard time finding any info on the prop version

It looks fantastic in the air.
Totally agree! Thanks for watching!

SO great! I fear foamies. I dont know I just really really worry about the durability, but this one looks great.
Thanks for sharing you guys!
Thank you Trent =^) You'll have to give one a shot some day, more durable these days!
I love this plane...one problem. I tried everything to get the motor brake on. No luck.

Yeah.. I know how that works ;) Flaps (and even better, the option of crow) Will help al lot in shortening the landing up :)
Yes!!!!! Thanks guys. might be my next purchase after the vista bl

Aeby is soo Sweet, great expleandet. LG Philippe Neuhaus from swiss
Nice, Thank you !
what an awsome airplane for the price! I might buy one for myself. also do you guys think that this could hold a mobius camera?
This could very easily hold a mobius, and I think you should get one and shoot some footage and share it with us! Love the price and really is a very nice plane. Thanks NJ!
Ha ha ha ha! Few glasses of wine?

TheRcSaylors
thanks guys
Nice job with your videos rc saylors
Thanks Brandon!
thanks for being fast... but the extra wire on the battery is supposed to fit the receiver?
Nope. Hmm.. I thought it showed how to do this in the manual. Exactly what I said below but that extra bat wire is just a balance wire for charging. The battery ONLY plugs in to the larger wire on the ESC, then it plugs into the motor and the Rx. Tx manual should tell you how to do it too.
It's really simple once you get it down. Wish I could be more help.
+TheRcSaylors thanks

Is this a good FPV plane for the Mobius Action camera?
This would be an amazing FPV plane especially with a Mobius.
TheRcSaylors How windy will it fly in?And do I need rates and expos if I use a DX8?
I ended up ordering the ST Salto....sorry I already forgot the name..duh...I even had enough for a battery. Guess what? Bonus....free shipping till the 23rd of this month.lol. I win again....

Aww really? I gave this plane to my dad and he just LOVES flying it!
