- ✓ East Ham is a mixed cultural area, with a majority of South Asians, (but also African / Caribbean and Eastern European resident).
On the stretch of the High Street recorded in this video there are many, many south Indian cafe type restaurants, eateries, spice & grocery shops.
There is a large South Indian and Tamil population in and around this area.
Now it transpires that Atlanta rapper 21 Savage was born in this area of London.
Well worth visiting is Saravanaa Bhavan; a vegetarian Indian restaurant - it's a magical place where you can eat like a king at very affordable budget prices & the portions are of a good size. (We highly recommend the vegetable Kolapuri with butter Naan: • Vegetable Kola Puri & ... or Rava Kichadi (Upma): • Rava Kichadi (Upma) at... ).
Video recorded on Wednesday 30th July 2014.
Thanks for posting this, brings back good memories.
It’ nice that someone brought this subject to share. It’s not the problem of East Ham or South Hall. It’s our culture, food, way of dressing up, expression of religion, way of talking and many other factors that contribute to label areas like East Ham, Ilford, South Hall as little India or Little Pakistan.
These labels are not good for us. In the long run after forty fifty years, there will be negative reaction from the native British people. We don’t want to accept better way of living, although we came to this country for a better life.
We don’t still want to dress up as if we are in our country, talk loudly on the phone in the High street, in the bus or train, people sitting next to us becomes irritated, but don’t say anything out of respect, AND ITS ALL RIGHT, because no one say anything.
We (not everyone) dump our rubbish often old bed, furniture on the roadside and the person did so will say proudly to himself “I did a great job no one saw me”. If we check his religion, he is very careful about that. He and his family will observe all the rituals with great interest, but he or his family don’t see doing that as wrong thing.
They do their religion so strongly they have to eat halal, dress halal but yet earning a little bit non halal doesn’t matter, ripping off the local authorities taking various wrongly claimed benefits are halal it doesn’t matter. Similar point applies to so many non Muslims as well living in these high concentrated Asian area. We are really double standard in every respect.
There’s no one to point out our mistakes, and if any one point it out will be called as racist. As long as this thing go on people will label our area as little India, Lillie Pakistan, little Bangladesh etc and it will not bring anything good for the area.
We need to educate ourselves and we need to believe we came to this country to have a better life, means living like the wast. Don’t take this note as a hate speech, but think positive
Your comments is most relevant and logical i have found in this comments section. Most of desi people are just either abusing each other or making fun in the comments which is just sad. Desi people need to be aware of their surrounding while being in public places. They should be mixed with the culture of country they are living in. Instead they form little communities which is completely offensive to the native people of the land. In my opinion uk should just deport back all the desi people out of country and restart the program with strict rules and regulations. Would be more appropriate if they completely shut down immigration from desi countries.
Thanks. You speak the truth. I was born and raised there before any Asian people came. There is no local culture there anymore. I left years ago. It became so depressing.
It actually looks nicer in this video than it was last time I saw it about 10 years ago. Too late for the locals who were mostly driven out. The negative behaviours you mention are not obvious from the video.
I remember a Pakistani shopkeeper telling me 'We will be sorry when all the English have gone'. I don't suppose many feel like him but perhaps you do. Thanks again.
It was once such a great place to live and grow up in, now, and due to the left wing council, it’s a slum. Newham council should hold their head in shame.
OMFG it has changed so much I literally live right near high street and OML!
Very Nice Video Thanks Sir.
This vid should be filmed now to see what it's really like
@@zunairafaiz372 Your name doesn't sound very British for you to be talking negatively about foreginers
@@NoName-vf1vu shut up you fucking nerd.

Enjoyed your video thank you💚✌️🇮🇪

East Ham is mini Sri Lanka with a hint of Romanians.
not really, it's a mix of south east Asia Bangladesh srilanka Pakistan and India with eastern europe mostly.
Increasingly eastern European now. Very interesting to see the different waves of immigration into and out of the area.
Ik
Its all Romanians now
Roads are clean. But exactly like parry's corner in Chennai. India.
North Indian shops,.
Why can't have a Venice garden in Surat or Santanaro street in Mumbai

The area around East Ham Station were mainly Sri Lankans but now half of Eastern Europe is here.
If you want to see Pakistan go one stop to Upton Park or "Upton Parkistan" as I like to call it.
Woooowww....!! London is looking like old calcutta....and markets are like in every cities in india and most people who pass by are just like "aam-aadmi" of india, very very common man...!! 😁😁

Glad I moved out 2 years ago would never go back. But no hate to these whom live there
I don't blame you :/
The house above the William Hill is where I used to live back in 2007. We were some of the only brazilians in the Neighborhood. The house was invaded and we were robbed once, but other than that, it was ok.
From 1970 to 2002 I lived in Newham first as a kid in Halley rd in Manor park then years later I lived in Wakefield st, the place has certainly changed since l moved out of London in 2002, for a start it has a lot more people and I recognised about three buildings from when I was a kid to a young man. I guess no one likes change as we get older but that’s the way life is constant change.
White British population is 4 times lower than Asian population in newham. That is cultural genocide
True. Change happens
Thanks.
How many canning town buses
Thanks a lot sor sharing bring back my memories 😭 spent 11 years of my life in these streets came back to Lahore Pakistan due to my Parents health bus yes i badly miss all these places shops people and life style what a Country to live a full life is there. Love Uk London and specially East London, East ham, Green Stret, Ilford, Barking, Gantshill, Good Mayes, Seven King, Forest Gate, Waltham Stow, Barking road, and much more a part od my life. Once again Thank u for sharing i see my self on the road while watching it😭
My dear I have also lived in East Ham Barking Ilford and the places you mentioned. This video has taken me back in those golden days. Pakistan is my homeland but my heart is still there. It is true that HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS.
London ❤️
After all we Third World people immigrate to these places because we like cleanliness, the traffic disciple, beautiful lights on the street.
What's happened to The Burnell...???
I know this place
How wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
My fucking god not the east ham new as a kid me and my mates used to go to the east ham pie shop bet thats gone now
10:09 Nice to see the Ruskin Arms is still there.
was there so many times)) good memories.
Been there..was nice
Amazing life experience
My high street!
you should check out the brothels
This would be funny if it wasnt for the fact that there are none there :/
I have lived in this area all my life and to be honest Green street has a higher level of Indian shops than East Ham high street. It's considered to be the spice capital of East London. There are more high street branded shops on high street North (where you filmed this). And the way you're walking, you're getting into the area which is considered Manor park. Interesting video though.
There is Vasanta Bhavan, another south Indian hotel, which I used to frequent. It was a decent place to try out some south Indian delicacies like idly, dosa etc.
Vasantha Vilas on High Street North have such nice dosas
Thank you for uploading video of East Ham I have lived there. Make video on Barking and Ilford Lane soon. Love from Pakistan.
Six years later like 80% of the shops are different now lol
way worse
How
Show Green st too
Any great must try indian restaurants there?
Saravana bhavan
Memories although it has deteriorated I imagine. I'm Canadian but grew up here in the summers. My family owned Mahil Stores. Very different time. I might be depressed if I see it now lol.
I remember Mahil Stores (if my memory serves me correct 70s/80s)...used to shop there.
Why did you walk towards Manor Park? Should have walked down toward East Ham High Street. Polish, African, Caribbean, English, Lithuanian, Porteugues, broke ass, vagrants, drug dealers, crack heads, thugs outside the McDonald's, weedheads, screaming kids, It's all in East Ham. The possibilities of being a dead end to no where here is endless. But the best part is, people really want to live here. Great transportation links. Come back now (2018), see how much It's changed; even worse
I don't want to live there.
Yeah fuck off to clacton or south end with the rest of the white jeremy Kyle imbreds👍
So I suppose Brixton is Jamaica 🇯🇲, and stoke newington is Jerusalem . Pleb .
Jerusalem ....dont you mean Palestine :)
England, no way
So true
I'm from East ham and this video is Manor Park not east ham.
Best South Indian restaurants
ok
It’s full of Romanian and polish.
Nothing wrong with either.
Manor Park. Not East ham high street.
want to move to london
It's mini Pakistan
Looks to me like they are a lot more into western world than say the Muslims. Also see that the streets are a lot cleaner than most I have seen in other parts. Also looks like people are headed somewhere not just hanging out; which is positive sign. Thanks for posting ;I enjoyed the walk thru which I see as positive.
You pasted my road
6.15 Saravanaa bhavan on the right, best restaurant in London if not the UK
Thx man, made my day
In East ham most of the tamil shops were
"Little" India
East Ham is like the worst place to live. Lool
I grew up there in the late 60s early 70s. Used to be a lovely place.
@@howardbowen-RC-Pilot I grew up around there in the early 2000s it was bad!!

Can't wait to leave East Ham no one has respect for the place. It's a complete dive.
it's a shithole
+13TH PLA Its a bloody Shithole, I'm glad I don't live there, but I go to school in East Ham Trust me Its full of rubbish
Umm i live there and its perfectly fine
@@ridjxbdnjs_2995 agree. Just moved in to the neighbourhood.
Taken decision 10 years back, no common sense, no respect, no manners, no concern towards the streets and it's cleanliness that's how people live over there. If we question them we get the same answer what we used to get in India.
This is interesting. In Vancouver, Can., the equivalent of " Little India" looks like a very colourful bazaar.
East Ham is also full of Sri Lankans too
Honestly still looks better than most American hoods
American hood looks like luxury compared to British hood
@@fuckheinschitt239 usa is way better.
streets look clean. dont know dont live there, but its a 10 compared to Kensington in Philadelphia Pa. now thats a complete shit hole.
Matthew Miller you must be from Philly to know about Kensington lol but it's true
it resembles some Montevideo , Uruguay or even Asmara in Eritrea .
Good to know London has such a diversity .
Do not forget to add Sri lankans too..
Residents of Indian descent are all over London, not just Newham.
I used to pick up drugs on all those side streets))
Once there were lots of Britons in India. South Asians should conquer Britain to teach them a lessons.
Racist.
They already occupied their country
.
Its actually really sad how people are being racist to everyone who lives there... me and my whole family live there and we were all born and raised in England. Most people i know were too, and we are constantly receiving racist comments from people........i dont know a word of urdu yet people are always making fun of us and telling us to go back to our country. I already am tho :P
yes,you are in YOUR country.Hope they understand.
I love the neighbourhood. Its very clean and organised
