  • Today I'm back with a new Sketchup speed build. I've finally found out what the terrain edit tool works like, so I thought it would be fun to make a mountain house.

I am a graduate student in the architecture field. I would highly recommend you reach out to local architecture firms and ask if you could shadow for a day or get a tour. Bring a couple of your models with (photos). And ask if they could use someone to model and render their project part time.
Could lead to even an internship at an early age.
At the very least take a tour of a college architecture program nearby you and see if it interests you!

@@cxmdencod180 you're still quite young. Starting off learning all the different modelling and drawing programs is really the only place to start at that age. Once you're older and have started a degree in Architecture, then it would be better to look for work experience or internships. Architecture firms are quite strict on what they require and in my experience, don't accept people who lack experience, skills or required education that are needed to be worth their time. Learning Sketchup, Revit, AutoCAD, 3DS Max, ArchiCAD are all good programs you can start off learning but you will still need the professional education as well because architecture isn't just about drawing buildings. There are much deeper thought processes involved in designing buildings rather than just making them look good.

@@cxmdencod180 Personnaly as a kid i draw houses on Sketchup just for fun. Then first year at Uni, i actually learned how to really draw (with layers and that kind of stuff). They really teach you this slowly and normally the first year you are more experiencing with hand sketches and paintings etc. So yep just try to draw what you like and don t bother yourself with getting too complicated and deep in a programm, you will learn this properly in the studies. (PS: Learn also draw sketches by hand, thats even the most important in the first year).

As someone who is in the construction field, I must say that your ability of being able to create a house is very good, however you have to remember that homes are not built or designed from the outside in, but rather from the inside out. A good place to start in the future would be to lay out a floor plan, know where your rooms will be: bedrooms, baths, kitchen, dining, mechanical and so on, then that will give you your idea of what the outside will look like base on the layout of those rooms.

Second.. You can improve your designs a Lot more, if you start playing with Groups and Components..
Also working with Dimensionally Accurate Items, like Standard Doors, and Windows, Wall Thicknesses, Staircase types (basically Treads and Risers dimensions), Seating Arrangement Ergonomics, etc. You will improve your design multi-fold.
I too have been working with Sketchup a lot, and trust me, such minute details help a long way..

to be honest, I don't really believe anything called " speed build " It takes so much time, skills, and experience to have a good house design. Architect has a lot responsibility for their designs, thus, they need to make sure that every things on the design are passed by code and the owners' eyes. That means you want your windows, doors, walls, roof or stairs come with the right dimension and are put in the right place. It takes time. This is a cool video to get you interested in house designing tho.

Duke Nguyen you are right, but he did also admit in the video that it took him 2 months sometimes to design

What he meant by speed build is a time lapse of a build that he has been planning for a while to build, because in edited normal speed of this video would be many many hours long

Press up, left, right to align with z, y, x-axes in SketchUp when you moved items... that will help you a lot in modeling...just so you know keep it up!

Well you're 18 now, so have you decided to take architecture? From an architect you won't be disappointed, yeah you might not get sleep (then again that's how it is with most professions) but the respect it commands is unmatched.

your drawing style is painfully to watch. drawing fast is easy, drawing correctly is not. this model would be a nightmare to adjust and draft due to no groups, no component's and the random heights and thickness.

When I was 16, I envisioned myself as the next Frank Lloyd Wright but despite my imagination and design skills (pen & paper), your's are far superior.
I thought that Sketchup Make was a free "trial" version?
Keep up the good work and enjoy.

Wow ik this is an older video and this guy is now 22 not 16 but I really hope he goes into Architecture because he is very talented with sketch up and his design is very impressive. I just started using sketch up in my first year of Ferris State University’s architecture program and I wanted to see right away what interesting builds people have made, first thing I see is this and of course the creator is so young and talented. Wish you nothing but the best, very inspiring build too👍

Dude! You're amazing at this. Be sure not to sell yourself short, people will pay you good money for this sort of thing! You should check out the Vectorworks software when you get a chance, it'll be a huge help to you if you decide to do this for a living. I hope things go well for you man!

I'm a simmer and love downloading your houses. I shook to know that you're a year older than me, I thought you're 20s to 30s when I'm watching your sims' videos. I'm currently applying for an architecture course and I'm still learning in drafting and using an architecture software, you're too advance compare to me ☹️ and your passion for houses is such an inspiration.
