I just love Frieren and Fern’s relationship … there is genuine love there. It’s funny that depending on the situation, Fern is Frieren’s daughter, older sister, mom, and apprentice. I think both love each other unconditionally. That smile on Fern’s face when Frieren said, “I know” (that you’re not a child) said it all.
The lesson I get from this chapter is: "If we talk about the things that bother us, the relationship improves." and "Not only children need emotional support."
Also in the episode when him and fern were inquiring about the 2 year travel restriction. There was a scene where stark had his arm around a guy's shoulder, showing him his scar , who looked horrified. That dude was not afraid of the scar. He was petrified that a kid was man handling him with one arm Stark is a beast. The grave during the ED always made me think of Flamme's. It seems she may end up putting flowers around a lot of graves in the future, but that's the first one we've seen her do since ep. 10. Ahh, missing Atsuko Tanaka again.
@@Credemis that's a theory that's been around in the community a lot, but I don't think that's the case, mostly because the story is never meant to advance past Fern's death so it doesn't make sense for the ED to express that. I think the director for that OP just took a little too much liberty in expression and confused all of us with it
@@javierflores09 I’m not saying it foreshadows Ferns death in the series or anything, I’m saying it shows Frieren outliving Fern, which is the obvious inevitability of their situation.
@@grimmturd I mean that is actually an optimistic thought - Frieren is going to outlive Fern 100% unless something tragic happens to her. Obviously it doesn't rule out the possibility that something tragic happens to Fern, but it doesn't mean that it will either. So in that regard it's neutral.
Speaking of parting phrases, in episode 1 Heiter used "sore de ha osaki ni" which the subs aptly translate as "if you'll excuse me". The "sore de ha" is just some "well then" type ish, but the "osaki ni" comes from the phrase "osaki ni shitsurei shimasu" which is a phrase you say to excuse yourself when leaving early. So when he says "I'll be going first" as he leaves in the carriage, that's after he's already informed us he doesn't think he'll meet his companions again before passing from old age. Oh, and there were some cool production tweets about the ED, showing how the stop-motion part had layers of panes of glass holding the different background and foreground elements as Frieren makes her way through the woods.
The Japanese title for this episode, "Take Care," is "Ja Genki de" (a line from Sein at 14:46). While "Genki de" means "Take Care," if I had to be precise, it translates more closely to "Stay Well." So, When someone is going out, if you want to say "take care" in Japanese, saying "Ki wo tsukete" would have almost the same meaning. "'Genki de" can also mean "take care," but it is a phrase used only when you won't be seeing someone for a while.
@@asagi-16 From my understanding, “ki wo tsukete” is more like “be careful” rather than “take care.” If there is some danger, we would say “be careful,” as in “be careful of poisonous snakes.” “Take care” is short for “take care of yourself (as in health),” so it’s close in meaning to “stay well.” ^ - ^
Kim's comment about Frieren saying "ja ne" to Old Man Voll is a really good insight and actually goes well with what is revealed in the very last ep of the season, which touches on why Frieren says very short, casual "goodbyes."
I'm watching this episode after the announcement that John will be leaving the FMA:B reaction and I am having FEELINGS about it. I wish you all the best John and I will be sad to see you go. ❤️
I can't wait to watch the rest of the season with you all. It's so good. I had the same reaction to the new opening. So exciting. So many new characters! I love this next arc
You guys are so good at picking up the layers in this show. You dont even have a clue how much forshadowing you guys are sitting on top of. Love your reactions!
I love the little fight about Stark being too strong, cause it’s such a very human experience. A lot of men remember the moment when they realized how much stronger than women they are, and it usually happens during puberty while horsing around with a girl.
Watching this again, it feels like Sein leaving is a completion of his arc of learning to go on the adventure he's always wanted to, but only now finally has the will to do. Also, the ß in Äußerst (and German in general) is read with a kind of "ss" sound rather than the "B" it looks like in English, so it sounds more like Ausserst than Auberst.
All the Sein's were there that he would leave, but it's still sad. Keep it mind it wasn't a tearful goodbye, though. Jya ne! (or in this case, mata ne/mata na!) I love the double meaning in the title: "take care" as in "see you later" and "take care" as in "taking care of someone."
The new ending begins at Flamme's grave and Frieren is now scared for the time when Fern dies and how she'll be alone again because she'd talked about Fern growing up this episode. I don't think she realizes that she'll take care of Stark and Fern's future children and grandchildren. So in that sense she'll always have something of Fern.
Stark milks cows when Fern is sick to help the lady letting them stay in the cabin, showing how much gentler he's become after Fern admonished him for grabbing his shoulder that way.

It's not Auberst. The letter that looks a bit like a capital B is a German letter which should be read as a double S. It's Ausserst. 😊 Loving your reactions. btw, Frieren and Stein said, "Matta ne," which means, "See you again," or "See you later." I always used to say, "Ja, matta ne," to my wife before sleeping. Ja (or dewa) ne, matta ne, and ja, matta ne, are all casual goodbyes. You can say them in the evening to mean, see you tomorrow, or, see you in the morning, anything with that kind of feeling. So surrounding Frieren are 4 little purple and red haired kids. Fern finishes her letter by telling Frieren to get up early. Frieren looks beyond frustrated.
The magical city Äußerst is pronounced oysserst with double ss, no b. It means outermost, probably because the city is on the edge to the northern lands.
Regarding "take care", I believe you're thinking of "itterasshai", which means, more or less, "go and come back safely". The counterpart is "ittekimasu", which means "I'm going but will come back". The equivalent in English in terms of commonality of usage would probably be "I'm heading out" plus "Take care", though there's a lot more variation in English for both phrases.
From a narrative standpoint it does make sense that Sein just had to go. Despite his "corrupt priest" schtick, my man is just way too mature and centered for this party of lovable dummies. I am still not sure what the closing credits mean. I think that the show/manga will end with Frieren losing Fern, who will die of old age. Maybe then Frieren will begin another journey to Ende, to see Fern in the afterlife. But given the themes of the show and the whole purpose of Frieren's journey, I can't see it not ending in this way. At the least, we know that Frieren (assuming nothing happens to her and Fern) will watch the little girl who has become her child age from a little girl to a young woman to an old woman and death.
Yea, that's Fern's grave, and when I saw that the first time it killed me. Also you know you can mute the pc audio source during songs and such so we can still hear you guys talk as opposed to muting everything.
Re: "Legendary-level spells," you two have made the same mistake basically everyone does, thinking of magic in terms of D&D or video games, where the level of a spell is related to its destructive potential or its grandeur or something, and then chalking Frieren's assessment up to just her being a silly old lady. I think a more accurate way to think of magic in this setting is in terms of its difficulty and complexity. "Getting rid of mold" and "getting rid of tough oil stains" are tricky for US, with modern science, without damaging whatever we're trying to clean. In more dramatic terms, a nuclear bomb and a nuclear power plant rely on the same scientific processes, ultimately, but it's much harder to create that reaction without also causing tremendous destruction. The bomb is a much simpler "spell," despite being more spectacular and having more combat power. Along those same lines, the show talks a lot about "folk magic" and people tend to think of it as like, "simple magic," like the spells to make warm tea or sour grapes, but I'm pretty sure it's more like "folk magic" as opposed to "academic magic," where some spells fit into a sort of codified system that's taught in magic schools and some are weirder and/or more specific than that, developed by hedge wizards and such to meet particular needs, then passed down in local traditions. As you'll see in the coming episodes, there are some very powerful folk magic spells, and that seems to confuse a lot of reactors. So now you know. :)

"Not only children need emotional support."

The ending is the same song "Anytime, Anywhere" performed by Milet but is the second half of the song.
Sein speaks for all of us XD
Note that Stark didn't carry her over his shoulders... the way he was holding her? It's called a "bridal carry."
Outro song is another verse IIRC.
The second outro is really something, isn't it?
FYI the feels are about to be a lot more severe because Flamme’s voice actress very recently passed.
Two episodes in a row!? Is it my birthday?
I am still not sure what the closing credits mean. I think that the show/manga will end with Frieren losing Fern, who will die of old age. Maybe then Frieren will begin another journey to Ende, to see Fern in the afterlife. But given the themes of the show and the whole purpose of Frieren's journey, I can't see it not ending in this way. At the least, we know that Frieren (assuming nothing happens to her and Fern) will watch the little girl who has become her child age from a little girl to a young woman to an old woman and death.
I see prime reactors right here 😎
new op and ed [animation]🎉
The 2 endings are from the same song, it's just 2 different parts.
1:02 they'll figure this out in the last episode

Auberst is pronounced as Oysast
Fern's grave in ed, I guess?
😁🎙😨
so Fern is 16 at this point
Fern had an 18th birthday in an earlier episode. I think they're treating the age of adult as 21.
She turned 16 in episode 3.
Yea, that's Fern's grave, and when I saw that the first time it killed me.
Also you know you can mute the pc audio source during songs and such so we can still hear you guys talk as opposed to muting everything.
PLEASE UPLOAD FASTER >:(
Re: "Legendary-level spells," you two have made the same mistake basically everyone does, thinking of magic in terms of D&D or video games, where the level of a spell is related to its destructive potential or its grandeur or something, and then chalking Frieren's assessment up to just her being a silly old lady.
