@@a2daj Thanks! I didn't notice how Fern only uses her staff in her right hand. The demon wounded her left shoulder, and so she cannot use her left arm. So good indeed!
She learned from the best. As a mage she doesn't waste time or energy on movement, only what's absolutely necessary. She focuses purely on her magic and speed at casting, both offensive and defensive. She is the spam-queen. She also doesn't bother with flashier spells. Both because Frieren doesn't really teach her other combat spells, and because it would be a waste if she is able to overwhelm with the basics instead. She also has an absolute killer poker-face that doesn't give away what she's doing or thinking. In a fight she hyper-focuses on the battle and is ALWAYS analyzing her opponent while being almost impossible to read in return. She is very likely to be on her way to becoming humanity's greatest mage in the current era.
(I wrote this previously but I am going to leave it here too) At 22:04 there is a rapid sequence of images from Himmel's party on their quest to defeat the Demon king. That is 0.5 seconds in length and therefore 100 times shorter than the 50 second sequence of Frieren living after the death of Flamme. Compare this to her life of 1000 years (approx) and their 10 year journey, and you'll notice it is the same ratio. It is a beautiful way to see how time feels in Frieren's perspective, and powerful knowing that sliver of time had such an impact on her.
Aura always cuts the heads off her slaves after she uses the scales to control them, removing any chance that their willpower will be able to eventually break free. Since the control is over their bodies, not their minds, she doesn't need their heads.
I really like how Flamme tells us she never taught anything but combat to Frieren...and the last spell she teaches Frieren was a non-combat spell that changed everything. Evan Call's "Freiren the Slayer" playing as Frieren owns Aura raises the scene to another level.
In episode 2 Frieren was drawing a circle around Fern while teaching her, which ,now after the last 2 episodes, we understood why - to teach her how much to suppress her mana. Lugner was seeing exactly the amount of mana coming from Fern, as it was the diameter of the circle.
Oh, i thought it was so fern didn't move from the circle. So, she can be calm even after being showered by multiple attacks. Fern's mana suppression is so outstanding that even frieren can't detect her. Meaning she can be perceived as someone who didn't even have mana.
@@nelg1994and Denken. But they cannot detect the fluctuation in their mana that would come with suppression as the suppression has become as natural as breathing to them
When Himmel and the Hero Party meet Frieren, she isn't wearing the earrings. She is, however, wearing the earrings in flashbacks after joining party. I believe that she had kept Flamme's earrings after her passing and decided to wear them when she finally went out kill the DK. It's how she brought Flamme along with her to show Flamme her dream. Freiren continues to wear the earrings to show Flamme the 'peaceful' world she wanted. Yes, they look a bit different, but that's what happens things over 1k years
Great reactions. 9 and 10 are such treats, but for very different reasons. Episode 9 gives us a good hard look at the elegance of Fern in battle. She doesn't show any emotion once the battle begins, and she controls the fight from start to finish. It is so obvious that she is a powerful mage. It contrasts nicely with Stark, who spends most of his battle figuring out his opponent before unleashing an absurdly powerful strike to end it. Epsiode 9 is well written, paced, and executed. It is all around a fantastic episode that would stand out...except when compared to Episode 10. Episode 10 is largely composed of flashbacks; the most screen time given to flashbacks in a single episode in the entire first season. What is more, this is quite purposeful. In order to understand just how _powerful_ Frieren is, we have to go back a thousand years to the beginning. We have to understand why Frieren hates the demons. We need to see Flamme teaching Frieren so we can understand how Frieren understands her enemies so well. As character and worldbuilding goes, it is great. This is exposition at it's finest. Then you reach the point where you finally understand _why_ the episode is unfolding the way it is. This isn't a character building exercise, per se. They are preparing you for what is going to happen. The tension is building as more and more layers of understanding are peeled back. It hits you: *Aura lost this fight before it even began.* The moment Aura chose to fight, she doomed herself. Knowing this builds the tension and expectations even higher. Then the climax. Frieren _flexes_ on all of us. The greatest displays of raw power aren't from exertion, but rather a release of control. Frieren _relaxes_ her control over her mana for a few moments. As an audience, it's like riding a wave of emotion. Then there is Frieren's parting shot. The coldest line ever delivered in anime. All of the built tension is released. I know I held my breath as Aura followed that final order. There is no music. Just the panic that Aura is feeling as her body obeys the order. She cannot even resist as she does _to herself_ what she has done to hundreds of humans over the centuries. And for a nigh immortal like Frieren, she turns her back and walks away because to watch _is a waste of time!_ What a display of contempt! The whole episode is a masterclass for writing and storytelling. For someone like me who enjoys writing, I was in awe throughout.
Most anime... Well, most shows in general actually, tend to do something wacky and then use flashbacks to justify it afterwards, which always seems to come across quite ham-fisted, whether it's a good reveal or not. Episode 10 does the exact opposite. The entire episode spoils the reveal before the climax. This would in most cases be a disappointment, as the reveal is usually the big important moment. Instead, it uses it as the framework to give us a fantastic episode built around the buildup and characterization.
Excellent analysis. To me the moment Aura remarks that Himmel is long gone is when she sealed her own fate and I knew Frieren would end her without pity, in the most savage way.
One piece of information that is interesting in episode 10. Many ask (where are the elfs) and Frieren said there are few, you see the demon saying to Flame "kill all the elves, thats the Demon King orders". Basically there are almost extinct, because the demons killed most of them.
And all of a sudden Frierens absolute unending hatred, which has persisted for 1,000 years, makes a lot more sense when put in that context. So much hate that upon seeing one in town, even under what looks like a diplomatic escort, she instantly attacks on sight with zero hesitation.
The hype I got from ep 10 was insane, the use flashbacks in this show is so well done. Fun little detail, Flamme was fully ready to leave Frieren to die , she only turned around upon realizing Frieren had talent lol. I love this scene purely because this show wasn’t afraid to portray a “good character “ as just being pure, for tiny things like this add a lot of character.
Eisen when Starks starts playing: "just max HP max ATK my boy" Frieren when Fern starts playing: "just max INT max AGI my girl" Frieren herself: "just MAX" those 2 eps are great, it will take a while but at the end of the series you can look forward to some possibly more amazing stuff. Frieren's badassery is on another level tho, i love having an anime where people just shut up and fight instead of shouting half the episode too.
I do appreciate how Fern fight also shows her using the same strategy as her teacher: her opponent keeps reassessing the situation during the fight yet remains completely oblivious to what is actually happening: She is harmless -> She can make surprise attacks with demon killing magic- > I am better, but she might get a hit in -> I should outlast her -> I can't, HELP! Even if you can't kill your opponent at first hit, the demon mentality ensures that they keep misreading the situation.
Thanks for sharing your reaction! I loved Linie's design in episode nine, and I loved the expectation of a similar huge battle in episode ten, but then we get primarily backstory and tactics to resolve the battle instead of action focus. I'm glad it lived up to the hype, can't wait to see more.
The only episode were "Zoltraak" and "Fear brought me this far" are played in just the same time. Just awesome. But now you know why Frieren is tired every Morning, even when it looks like Mana-concealing become a natural state for her
Remember when Freiren and Fern faced the Monster that used illusions? Freiren said she's used to seeing Flamme beg for her life. Well now you know why lol. She'd trick Demons by doing that.
Episode 10 was the most hyped episode of this series, especially the part where Frieren told Aura to kill herself. That scene was absolutely the best one of the entire episode.
It is curious in the story, that Frieren never wears earrings of any kind for a 1000 years, but when she joins Himmel's party, she puts them on, and never takes them off even to sleep. There seems to be some meaning in that, but nothing is ever said about it in the story itself.
@@bobislav85 Thanks. As many times as I have read the manga and watched the anime, I wondered what happened to the third Red Teardrop. Well, as you point out, it's on the end of the Red Ribbon which Frieren wraps around her staff. The open question is the Red Ribbon! Only one person ever wears a Red Ribbon, and that is little Fern, but she gives up the Red Ribbon soon after Frieren moves in with them. Flamme never wears a Red Ribbon, but on all the earliest views of the staff, there is a Red Ribbon. Flamme's neck piece is something like a metal Golden Torc to which she attaches the third teardrop jewel. The new ED centrally features a Red Ribbon. Okay, this probably has been mentioned already, but most if not all the names (characters and places) in this show are German and way cringe if you know that those are not actual names but regular words... Heiter = cheerful Eisen = iron Himmel = sky/heaven Frieren = to freeze Fern = far/distant Stark = strong Flamme = flame Lügner ( the demon from this ep) = liar Draht (the executioner demon) = wire Qual (the sealed demon lord general) = agony/torment Einsam (the ghost monater) = lonely Ende = the end And a lot more ridiculous names will follow. Other than that I love the show and am glad to see you enjoy it
I'm not seeing how that's cringe or ridiculous. In this case, they are like a hidden Easter eggs (for non-German speakers) revealing aspects of the character. Many names are regular words, though the meaning becomes obscure over time. For example, my first and middle name have Greek origins. Christopher means Christ-bearer. And Jayson (Jason) means healer. My son's name (Aidan) is Gallic for "little fire".
that´s a very very very special definition of "speechless". Does the reacter mean the parts she´s taking breath? I am speechless how professional the reacter cuts out every second relevant scene just for suggesting us she didn´t ralise them. THAT´s great "reacting". That´s Frieren style. 🤔

So cool.That’s all.
Okay, this probably has been mentioned already, but most if not all the names (characters and places) in this show are German and way cringe if you know that those are not actual names but regular words...
Heiter = cheerful
Eisen = iron
Himmel = sky/heaven
Frieren = to freeze
Fern = far/distant
Stark = strong
Flamme = flame
Lügner ( the demon from this ep) = liar
Draht (the executioner demon) = wire
Qual (the sealed demon lord general)
= agony/torment
Einsam (the ghost monater) = lonely
Ende = the end
And a lot more ridiculous names will follow.

Peaaaak 🔥
Qual ”Frieren…My spell…”
that´s a very very very special definition of "speechless". Does the reacter mean the parts she´s taking breath?
I am speechless how professional the reacter cuts out every second relevant scene just for suggesting us she didn´t ralise them. THAT´s great "reacting". That´s Frieren style. 🤔
Frieren is scary.
I love it tho
