Just wanted to add for people who see this later. As a left leg amputee I wear a prosthetic and I don’t use hand controls I use my prosthetic for the clutch and of course my real right foot for the fuel pedal. It’s not a requirement to use hand controls if you’re an amputee…
Great video!! Thanks for sharing this with us!! The only thing that I would add is to document everything!! Who you talked and when especially dealing with the government. A great friend of mine is a nurse and she told me that if it’s written down then it happened. If it’s not then you have to prove it. I can’t tell you how many times that has helped me. You can say every date and who you talked to or left a message for can carry a lot of weight to get them moving.
Lock pickings Gal that’s good advice, but these people don’t care either way really. The only real way you will get em to even respond is via email. They are so incompetent it’s unreal lol
Hey man, I just received my temporary SPE to attend training. I take my CDL exam next Friday Oct 11th, 2019 in California. I found the process of getting my temporary SPE really a big pain in the ass! I got mine all done with the DOT physical and medical evaluation took about 5 weeks. I stayed on top of it and made sure I stayed in contact with Ms. Fortenberry at the Atlanta Office. I am glad you got yours. Will you share your experience regarding the actual test on the road with the examiner. New subscriber here. Take care, I look forward to your reply.
661DesertRat sorry man I just saw this hope all is well and you’ve found a job and everything. I’m running ltl produce out of Florida so I’ve been super busy the last few months between buying a truck and starting a business and all that I haven’t had time to keep up with the channel.
@@Halfstep2024 Thanks man. Yeah i got my cdl and my spe. I'm working graveyard doing line haul around socal. Congrats on the truck and your company. I want to get my own truck eventually. Best regards
I'm trying to get my CDL for the first time (I didn't have a CDL before I lost my left hand). So what is the proper chain of events? I've taken my written tests. Gen. Knowledge, air brakes, combination, double/triples, tanker, and hazmat (trying to make myself marketable). It wasn't until just now that I realized that I'm going to have to take another step. So if I'm understanding correctly, I have to go do my: DOT physical Apply for SPE Take spe driving exam Take CDL driving exam Then I'll have my CDL with all endorsements? Or can I go ahead and do the state driving exam while I wait on the SPE? Also, on my SPE application, the part for the medical examiner isn't done by the same person that administers your DOT physical? Thanks in advance.
Then you leave it blank, or like someone else I helped was forced to do fill it in with a completely random company’s information and keep your mouth shut because they wouldn’t accept it not filled out.
Because I lost my leg after I already had a cdl for years and there’s a special process where you have to re test for the fmcsa to prove you can drive safely while handicapped.
Sorry Harmony I just saw this part. The best advice I have is fill out every section you can and if something doesn’t apply to you you leave it blank. I’m not sure why everyone is having trouble filling it out but that’s the easy part of the ordeal. So basically answer every single thing that you have an answer for and leave the rest blank. On the parts where they ask about what kind of truck you’ll be driving you don’t want to eliminate yourself from anything so I put a manual truck with a 5x4 transmission which would be the most difficult obviously. But don’t put that unless you test with a manual.. obviously
Wondering if you could answer a question. How long after passing the cdl school did it take to get the spe certification scheduled. Like i got the cdla but my medical card is now expired and cant renew till i get the spe completed. Funny thing is i did all this in school lol.
Hey sorry about late reply these notifications go to an email I don't usally monitor But yeah ask any questions and everyone here will be able to try and help

yes, so true. Lost my left foot in January, prosthetic to clutch took a minute, but it's mostly like walking again, getting a feel for it.
I’m a 20 year LBK. 14 year CDL and SPE holder ❤
Can I get my commercial license permit, before I get the spe waiver?

How long did it take to get the waiver back after you took the test?
what if you dont have a job before you need this sheet
Then you leave it blank, or like someone else I helped was forced to do fill it in with a completely random company’s information and keep your mouth shut because they wouldn’t accept it not filled out.
If you had cdl, why did you take driving test? It says driving exam OR BOTH SIDES OF CDL?
Because I lost my leg after I already had a cdl for years and there’s a special process where you have to re test for the fmcsa to prove you can drive safely while handicapped.
Hey, how long did it take you?
They keep denying me cause I don't have a prosthetic. I know it's one of they rules but shit I don't have anything to hook it on to. The struggle.
