Two guys on youtube were pulling a 58 VW out of the dirt. It was totally rusted. The whole bottom was gone from sitting in the dirt. The motor was just a big piece of rust with almost all of the metal gone. The one guy looked at it and said.....Mustie could make that run again.

I appreciate that more than you know. I live in CT and I'm seriously fighting the inappropriate and invasive urge to take a trip up the ugly 95 just to shake your hand and say thanks. So...thanks, Mustie. You're videos make my week.

Firstly I’ve watched your channel now for many years and want to thank you for all your hard work. Content is always awesome and please keep it coming.
I don't comment often, but I've been subscribed for years. I truly appreciate all your hard work to keep your channel sponsor free. Happy Holidays from Pennsylvania!
having a sponsor here and there could go a long way for his $ situation. he's given enough for free. let him get paid. worst case we have to watch a 5 second rant!
I like how Dr. Mustie says I'm just going to drive it in the woods, so I'm not worrying about this or that, then he fixes everything anyways!!! I'm the same way, I like everything right.!!! I would ride it gently because we know the value is just going to keep going up!!! Thanks for sharing doctor!!!
Brings back memories. My first motorcycle when I was 9 or 10 was a 1973 Honda XL70. Very similar to this bike. Think the turn signals lasted a week. Dented the tank the very first take off. Mine had a clutch and I wheelied it, dumped me. Into a hand rail she went. I rode the wheels off that thing over the next couple years.
I hate to say it, once you get this one running, If I lived any closer I would have a hard time not trying to talk you out of it! Even now its nicer than anything I have seen lately! Keep it up sir! We are here for the silly giggles, the dad jokes, and the cool projects!
My 1970 trail 70 was excellent build quality. Of course I found a way to tear it up. Pretty much ran it flat-out all the time. It'd go over 50 if you laid-out flat on it...downhill.
I weighed more than the average kid. But 65 mph for a 70 cc bike seems like a lot. I don't recall the CL 70. My friend had an SL, and I had a CT. Do you have a picture?
The hand cleaner and bolts in the tank reminded me of an awesome tip: You can take GoJo orange hand cleanser and coat a rusty spot on chrome or shiny steel; you then take aluminum foil and use either strips or a ball of it as a scrubber. The Gojo with it's light abrasive acts as the perfect rust remover and polishing agent, the aluminum is softer than the steel and supercharges the rust removal and polishing with it's interaction with other ingredients in the orange soap... I took the rustiest rims and other chrome(ish) parts= they came out looking perfect, rust even is removed from pitted areas.
Part of that is a chemical reaction. I found that out by accident while cleaning some aluminum drinking cups. I had bleach in the aluminum cup and put a stainless steel steak knife in the cup to soak and a chemical reaction took place and the stainless steel knife just slipped right through the bottom of the aluminum cup. One of the most unusual things I've ever accidentally discovered.
Mustie, it's all about the "host"... if the host is likeable (even charming!), the content will be good-- especially if the host actually knows what he is talking about! You have a knack for being able to talk to us while you're working that makes us feel like we're actually there and are engaged with the task at hand. Hey, I'm an old retired guy from Alabama, and my Sunday mornings are my "Mustie time". And, yes, I do find myself answering you more often than I'd like to admit! Just keep doing what you're doing, and I'll always be there watching. Boy, does that ever sound creepy! Anyway, Merry Christmas to you and the Mrs.!
Can’t say enough how great it is that you aren’t turning your videos into advertising and begging for subscriptions! Always will watch you first because its quality content and no bs.
Good morning surprise -I even had my coffee ready. I tune in for when you do your bike builds. My favorite part is watching your face when you ride them for the first time. I have watched you rebuild Crusty 3 times. It is too bad that the cool stuff doesn’t pay the bills. I really like the long projects🤷♂️, even if you have to chop it up with the other interesting stuff to keep up the clicks. It is all good Mustie. It’s is all good. I’d love to see you build a bike again. It used to be your “Winter Project” ,as I recall.
Thanks Mustie for all the videos, I have a feeling I'd watch you restoring absolutely anything, you are my No.1 youtuber! I call you the carburettor king here in the UK!
another awesome video, i feel personally that some of your best videos are the ones where you go from recovery to a full ruststore. seeing a total wreck that most people see, then 5 videos later, a working engine repaired bodywork breaks, wheels, exhaust, to a fully running and complete vehicle. i have learnt so much from watching your videos, i was even brave enough to do my first rebuild on a carburettor, and guess what " I nailed it" was a big surprise for me i must say. love your videos and what you do, from a noob mechanic in the UK.
I also prefer the year long rustomods but understand that loses a lot of engagement with today's instant gratification audience. The survival of the channel takes precedence over keeping a few core viewers happy. Just be happy he doesn't open every video screaming HEY GUYS IT'S YA BOI MUSTIE BACK WITH ANOTHER RESCUE VIDEO!!!! With cringey cartoon face punch sound effects overlaid on it. Honestly if he did that for just one video I would probably die laughing my f*ing ass off.
I always like that series of bikes. They were extremely popular in the 70's. My neighbor got a new one for Christmas & I was envious . But, there were plenty of them around & we cobbled a couple together ... We rode them in all seasons, including snow covered back rds..
This brings me back. I was city kid with a single mom. BUT we would go to my cousins farm and ride trail 50s. I was absolutely in heaven when i was there! Riding them ! Thanks for the memories!
please please please!! do an artsy bike build! always show us what you want to work on. ive watched all of your vids for years. within minutes of when they drop im watching. your creativity on the bikes is my favorite!!! you might look into filters for your powershot. definitly cheaper then replacing the camera, even used... thanks for the fun content!!
Most of us would have no issue if you did a "Raid Shadow Legends" ad. It's mostly a meme and if you can make some extra cash I'd say go for it. It would be hilarious seeing you do a mobile game ad!
I cancelled my cable and with content like this for entertainment I don't miss it one bit. I'm saving 180 bucks a month and you're videos are helping me achieve that. Thanks
Hi Darren, you might consider a UV filter for your camera. its just glass but protects the lens from dirt and damage. i have saved my canon lenses from workshop abuse by fitting one. keep up the great work.
What brought me to this channel to begin with: The Meter Maid project. I still want one for myself because of that series. Subscribers: Approximately 190K to 220K back then, over 600K now. I forecast 1M by the end of 2025 at the current rate. Why? Because of Mustie's method of operation, integrity, and character. Never change, Mustie! Keep it coming! Side note: If things pan out this week, I will be buying a complete 1981 Ford Courier minus the grille, headlights, and title as a parts vehicle to finally finish getting my 1984 Mazda B2000 back on the road (for which I do have a title to.) I plan to do this in the spring when the weather warms up again and use the method of pulling parts from one to fix the other and hopefully make very few trips to the auto parts store.
another quality repair job. I agree with the others, I could sit and watch you do the repair jobs no matter what it is. You do quality work, and show us all we ever need ot know. Thank you Darren
I'm surprised the custom bicycles aren't where the most viewers are. That's what drew me in years ago. Those bike are kinetic art. If Bob Ross could build a bike : )
Mustie, I got a hold of a Honda 90 or 50 (don’t remember which one) as my first bike but totaled it within a 9 months. all the rich kids were riding trail bikes from Yamaha. I then worked as a cleanup/stock shelves kid (13 years old) and they let me have a frame, wheels and big box with engine and parts for two months work. It was a Harley 175cc Bobcat. I put it together after rebuilding the engine, and it was my bike of choice for a year till I worked long enough (3 jobs) to afford a brand new in the crate (wood crates in ’65) 883 Sportster. Enough CC’s to get on the new expressways…haha. Anyway, you doing this bike reminds me of doing my Bobcat. Thanks!
Darren, I really look forward to Sunday mornings, to follow whatever is your latest project. In addition to watching you while you work, I enjoy the stories of your adventures when you were young. I also enjoyed hearing about the logistics of working with RUclips, and didn't realize the expenses that go along with producing these videos, such as the rent for your shop, property tax on it, and so on.
I would watch you tear apart a Barbie car, if you did one. I like your demeanor, your humor, and the way you take the time to explain things. I'm glad you don't advertise, or ask for subscribers
This old bike cleaned up nice, just enough patina to maintain its street cred. I would replace all of that wiring; it will cause problems down the road. Please do more of these videos where you put effort into cleanup as well as the mechanical 👍
Its SOOO nice to see someone using an ACTUAL Vice Grips instead of those make believe ones , great job Mustie already looking forward to your next upload , Regards from Dublin Ireland ... 🙂
Interesting!, I never realized that you do not plug products or yourself or ask us to subscribe, this is unique and shows character good for you. I will keep watching your wonderful Channel
Thanks for hanging out with us while doing some wrenching! It’s interesting to hear about your methods of approach for projects, and the need to make numbers. I (wrongfully) assume everyone is like me, and tunes in for our weekly lesson without fail. People may think your RUclips success translates to making bank, but an insight into just a portion of your overhead clears that up some. Your videos have given so many of us the knowledge, and the confidence to tackle our own projects. Mustie1 is a treasure.
I am an avid watcher of every episode. I also am constantly letting the guys I work with know about your channel because we all have the same interests. If all us watchers advertise for you, we can get your subscription up even higher. Keep up the good work.
Darren just in case you wanted to have any of our feed back on what you talked about. When it comes to why you chose certain content. You decide what needs to be chosen as far as I'm concerned. It's your channel that's how I see it. just to let you know if you want to build bikes I'm still watching your channel. I'm not going nowhere, my favorite build was the Volkswagen pickup truck way back. That was my favorite. And I've always enjoyed the bike builds just to let you know. If you want to still make them I'm still here. Nice little ole bike Darren she sounds really good for something that fifty years old. impressive.
I think I speak for most of your subscribers by saying it's OK if you want to add in a sponsor or start a Patreon page. With all the entertainment value (and small engine knowledge) you've given your fans, I think that's worth at least $5/month. Whatever you decide to do or film, I'll still be watching.
I discovered your channel about 4 years ago. I binge watched every video to start with and I look forward to every video when it drops. I understand trying not to dwell on one project too long to keep interest in your channel. I think I speak for the majority of your followers when I tell you that's one thing you don't have to worry about. Whether it's putting a grill together, cleaning up your camp, or doing a will it run video on something you picked from the side of the road. If it says Mustie1, I'm gonna watch it. I've said it before Darren, keep doing what you do, whatever it is, and we'll keep watching. Merry Christmas from your neighbor over here in Maine. Cheers my friend. 😁👍🎄
Start a second channel where all you do is build your bikes. I'm sure we'll all watch that too! You do great work and are humble as anyone I've ever known. Keep up the great work.
Yours is the first channel I actually ever subscribed to and it is still BY FAR my favourite. Apart from the contents I think that what we all really like is the very personal way in which you interact with the audience making us all feel that we are sitting right there in the shop with you
I love your videos been watching for years first time I've commented you help me rebuild to Honda three wheelers that I had since I was young thank you so much.
It's understandable you don't want to bore people and kill the channel but what ever you bring us it's always fun to watch. That bike is coming out very nice great job.
Good stuff Mustie1. I always appreciate the vintage bike restorations, they're my favorite videos to watch. Thanks for all you do. There's no harm in setting up a Patreon account for those who want to donate to the cause.
I swear you could narrate like Morgan Freeman! Love how you talk to each of us like we're there, and again the priceless laugh not only at yourself but when it fires up then when your enjoying the fruits of you labor! Another great video with a pretty nice little minny! Have a great merry happy!
Been following this channel for a good few years now and it's always the first one of my subs that I will play when I check for new vids every day. The content is always interesting and the thought processes and methodology of how you go about projects is how I treat my own. I just love the whole let's see if we can make this run again...and the way you involve the audience. Dont think you could improve this channel buddy you have it nailed
Hey Mustie. I know that you do not solicite money from us, and all you ask of us is our time to watch your videos. I appreciate your hard work and I relate to your style. Thanks for these great videos. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Mustie1, if you started a second channel for all motorized bikes and motorcycles and even just pedal bikes I would definitely subscribe. And you would get a lot of subscribers fairly fast if you just announced your second channel on your main channel. Even if you only uploaded on the second channel every couple a months it would be worth it. I think it would help your brain stay more excited on your main channel projects if you were able to do more artsy passion projects. Never stop self improving. Love your videos! 👍🏼👍🏼
Stay with your method of shooting videos but from my perspective Mustie you could film a 20 part series on restoring a Car and I would be there every SUNDAY MORNING!!!!! Your showing us what you do and the little stash of secrets you find to fix something is INSANELY INTRIGUING!!!!!!!! GOOF OFF AND GREEN SCOTCH Brite to strip paint off revealing paint under was SO GOOD!!!!!!!
I've been watching your videos for about 2 years now and I'm amazed at your mechanical knowledge and wondering where and how it is that you learned so much about engines and machinery. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming.
He learned by doing, and not being afraid to dive in. You can do it too, and with the 21st century information superhighway, info is much easier to come by online. You had to be a real pro to be able to fix this Honda ST90 back when it broke (30 years ago), because you had to buy an expensive manual or learn it all by yourself, maybe in a technical school.
Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge how much a man of integrity Mustie is?
I second this!

I hate to say it, once you get this one running, If I lived any closer I would have a hard time not trying to talk you out of it! Even now its nicer than anything I have seen lately! Keep it up sir! We are here for the silly giggles, the dad jokes, and the cool projects!
Amazing, he is actually using the panel beating hammer for panel beating!
I had one of these in the late 1980's. Was a great little commuter... as long as I didn't point it at a hill.
The level of quality Honda put into their cheapest line of motorcycles is really quite impressive. The paint still looks great.
My 1970 trail 70 was excellent build quality. Of course I found a way to tear it up. Pretty much ran it flat-out all the time. It'd go over 50 if you laid-out flat on it...downhill.
@@Jeff_Pendleton I had a Honda CL70 and I think it would do 65 all out.
Ya, but don't make the mistake, like I did once, of cleaning your glasses with the stuff, by accident.
@@robertweldon7909 technically, it does work. The glass is clean as a whistle. Can’t see through it, but it’s clean lol
@@Cartier_specialist That's really interesting, hell yeah, thank you
Mustie, it's all about the "host"... if the host is likeable (even charming!), the content will be good-- especially if the host actually knows what he is talking about!
Mustie is a magician-love to watch the trouble-shooting, diagnostics and then the repair. Keep em coming Mustie
Can’t say enough how great it is that you aren’t turning your videos into advertising and begging for subscriptions! Always will watch you first because its quality content and no bs.
I was wondering what would happen to the nuts, very impressed, the tank was beautiful inside too.
Daren you do what you want and we will always be privileged to join you!
I always like that series of bikes.
They were extremely popular in the 70's.
My neighbor got a new one for Christmas & I was envious .
But, there were plenty of them around & we cobbled a couple together ...
We rode them in all seasons, including snow covered back rds..
It’s a Sunday tradition to watch Mustie. I love all the different mechanical content. Thanks for staying true to your channel.
Your content is fascinating. No matter the topic, there's always something to learn. Thank you for your time, resources, and effort!
I cancelled my cable and with content like this for entertainment I don't miss it one bit. I'm saving 180 bucks a month and you're videos are helping me achieve that. Thanks
I'm liking the carb cleaning story time.
Hi Darren, you might consider a UV filter for your camera. its just glass but protects the lens from dirt and damage. i have saved my canon lenses from workshop abuse by fitting one. keep up the great work.
I find every one of your videos interesting. Both your knowledge that you impart to us, and your engaging talks works very well!
The back stories is a really awesome new element. Super cool .... how about a Mustie bloopers compilation video ? :)
the you tube world would be a much poorer place without this man & his channel.
Love the channel, content, and openness. Makes one feel like friends hanging out turning wrenches and sharing time. Thank you!
another quality repair job.
Can’t wait for part 3. Great video!! 👏👏👏
In RE: cameras etc.... I don't watch you expecting you to be different in the future. I subbed because I like what you do.
Thank you for sharing. Very much enjoyed.👍👀
Always look forward to your videos. Thank you
You cant kill a Honda , good job getting er goin again...
Good Morning everyone.

Good morning
When you were shaking the gas tank. I started singing. You put the lime and the coconut and shake it all up😂
I use a torch tip cleaner to clean jets, they’re cheap and works on all sizes. Works better than a smooth wire.
Ps… where’s the fake Lamborghini?
I would watch you tear apart a Barbie car, if you did one. I like your demeanor, your humor, and the way you take the time to explain things. I'm glad you don't advertise, or ask for subscribers
Love all your videos mustie love from SCOTLAND 🏴
People may think your RUclips success translates to making
bank, but an insight into just a portion of your overhead clears that up some. Your videos have given so many of us the knowledge, and the confidence to tackle our own projects. Mustie1 is a treasure.
This is the best small engine channel on RUclips he is a master of his craft!
Love the old bike videos. That’s what brought me to this channel. Well done Mustie.
Good Morning Mr. Mustie! Thanks for another video - always a highlight of my Sunday morning!
They are a good bike. I had a 1969 Honda 50. And I rode the hell out of it. Always wanted one these Bikes. Brought back alot of memories. Great Video
Apart from the contents I think that what we all really like is the very personal way in which you interact with the audience making us all feel that we are sitting right there in the shop with you
Great video , some of Us do not have the time or patients to do these things . I just enjoy being an arm chair mechanic with You .
Most definitely well said 👏 👌
Agreed!!!! I want more "special projects" from Mustie1.
Yup! I'd definitely watch!
it sounded like he cannot afford to "waste" time on projects outside of what the algorithm wants. kinda sad
I need counseling! I find I'm looking forward to Mustie's Sunday morning videos all darned week. 🤣
