I play the trombone in my grade and trust me everyone takes all the stands before i can even put my hands on one. And my slide always locks its so painful. And I also remember in 6th grade like maybe 2 years ago the trombone and trumpets did this thing where when we played we had to be louder than the flutes because we always thought they were the goodie goodie two shoes and thought they were the band teachers favorites since they do "everything right" lol. So this competition went on for almost a little less than 2 years lol.

In 2017, I “played” the bassoon, I just pretended to know what I was doing and just repeated the same ten notes depending on the highs and lows, the teacher had no clue what I was doing, the band even competed in state and the judges couldn’t tell either, in fact they complimented me on how well I played the song and singled me out. The band class I was in got top 5 in that competition. The bassoon I was playing on had been stolen from the town just north of the school I was going to at the time, it was stolen by my bio mother 6-8 years prior around the time I was in karate, she was in that towns orchestra and “forgot” to leave it behind.

But it's even worse when it gets so stuck that they can't get it out so you have to bring it to the place you got it from. (I know from experience, I dropped it on the bus going home from a football game, it sucked having to hold it in my lap for the entire 2 hour bus ride home)

one time my friend had his case standing up(we play bassoon) and his reed was in a water cup on the floor. he just got that reed yesterday and all of a sudden the case dropped and fell on his reed. breaking to where it's impossible to play. it was funny but also i feel bad for his parents since double reeds are expensive.

it’s “fake it till you make it” until you have playing tests. idk if other bands do that but mine does, it’s where you play a certain small piece of music infront of the class and get graded the notes, the pitch, the tune, everything. it’s stressful ngl😭
