    This was a phenomenal overview of the 5470! I picked one up recently and I'm excited to start working with it. So much great info I wouldn't have found elsewhere. Thanks for putting this together!

    Hi Mike, great tutorial! There's one topic that could be added to the review - a section on how to use/leverage the contactless and contact smart card readers in this workstation. I recently purchased it for my personal use and it came with the contactless reader. Not sure how I could use it to setup and improve security on the machine. Any chance you could do a small tutorial on this aspect. Thanks in advance!

    Hi MIke, great overview! I’m considering purchasing this model and have a question regarding the keyboard: is it possible to use Fn+left/right arrow keys as Home/End keys? I know some laptops with this keyboard layout have had these shortcuts enabled while others haven't. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Mike, I'm considering buying the 5570 . Need it for music production. Abelton, cubase, as well as photo/video editing using the Adobe suite.
    i7- 12700H 32/1tb rtx A1000 or
    i7- 12700H 16/1tb rtx A1000.
    Which one should i opt for? Is it silent under load. Does it have any heating issues?
    What battery life can i expect?
    Would be grateful of you could assist in any way.
    Thanks.

      The 32GB model. That is the configuration I have in my work Precision 5470. I also use Adobe suite. I have monitored my system and I average 64% memory allocations. Because I have 32GB I am OK. If I had the 16GB more than half the time I would have memory performance issues.

    Hi Mike, I am configuring one of these on the site and trying to decide between the i7 and i9 options which is a $322 difference. Is the i9 noticeably faster in computing tasks? Will be running a wide range of software from SAS Enterprise Guide, Enterprise Miner, ArcGIS and Solidworks, and also photorealistic rendering software. Basically, Data Science and CAD applications. Would you recommend i9? Battery saving is not really critical with these machines so I'm just trying to save some money if the difference is not noticeable. Can you point me to any test that show difference in computing speeds? thanks

      Hi Michael, you have a mixed bag of application. Let's start with Solidworks. In ranking of importance, starting with the most important 1. GPU recommended is RTX A1000, 2. Processor, processor speed is more important than core count, 3. Memory, recommended 32GB. That being said, if you are using rendering software as well, rendering tends to want more core count in the CPU. In writing this response, I realized my answer. i9, RTX A1000, and 32GB. Hope this helps. I have been using the Precision 5470 as my work system for several weeks now. I love it!

    Hi are you going to be providing a review of the Dell Precision 5480?

    • @MichaelOHanian
      @MichaelOHanian  Год назад

      If I do it will be a short one. 5480 is the same as the 5470 with the exception of 13th gen and a larger range of GPU's.

    Should I use Gaming laptop for engineering work? Because it half the price of Precision.

      It's funny you should ask. This fall, my daughter will attend college to study engineering. Although I am tempted to buy her a gaming notebook because of the price, I will purchase her a Precision. Precisions are designed for engineering applications and for constant use. The Precision 3471 or Precision 5470 are the two models I'm debating right now. My preference is the Precision 3471 because it offers a good balance between price and performance. Although I use the 5470 for work and love it.
