I think she might have felt this would be one of the last times she would sing this particular signature song, and since she was in her hometown, she gave it 110%.
Nobody's singing voice at 76 is going to sound the same as it did when they were 23 years old. People need to stop comparing recordings. She's still the greatest!
I wish I could study the mechanics of her voice! it's so mesmerizing how she can belt some notes so clearly and others are strained or how certain emotions seem to affect certain inflections. I love this woman!

But sometimes she says some wacky things about her voice - that she “wills” the long-held notes and they appear like magic! There’s a specific technique for that - you fill your lungs with air, but use your diaphragm to exhale very slowly and smoothly. You focus that same air on the hard palate, where the resonators in your face (some would say her nose) project the sound. It isn’t magic. Of course, she’s in her 80s now, and the first thing to go in even great voices is the ability to negotiate the breaks between the low-middle-high registers. Many singers sound hoarse when the voice deteriorates and they need to change gears to reach certain notes. With Streisand, as with many other aging greats, you begin to hear those gear-changes.

If Liza could hold her own with her mom, and her mom could hold her own with Barbara then Liza would have been just fine singing with her. Streisand has coupled up with many men and women who weren’t her equal and it turned out just fine.

This is why I say there is no one like Bernadette Peters. Bernadette never had a rough performance. I love Barbara and she’s amazing but this performance was tough to listen to. It makes me sad that she’s lost her voice.
Terrible acoustics. I cut it off at 0:44. I wasn't looking forward to hearing her rusty, old pipes anyway. I'll leave it at her encore stage performance of Funny Girl from Xmas Day, 1965, and at the end of the picture in 1968.
