Can you cover the exact same, but for CPU settings in the bios? I've wanted to get into overclocking, but the amount of stuff I'd have to read to just understand all the knobs and gears is overwhelming, so it'd be extremely appreciated, and not just by me I'd say :)
This video, and "what to do after building a pc" video, were extremely helpful. I was having that "PWR" issue that you said people were freaking about. But your explanation of what I was looking at was very insightful. I have an evga rtx 2060 12gb and had a 500w 80+ bronze power supply. Was "freaking out" about the PerfCap Reason I was seeing and bought an 850w 80+ gold full modular. Was still having the "issue" so I started digging. So PWR reason for being capped is that I'm hitting the limit that can be drawn from the motherboard? If so, the part that currently holding me back is my motherboard. Still having PWR, VRel, and VOp being the cap reason after maxing out the power limit in afterburner.
I think GPU manufacturers should have more focus on that... GPU's for a big part are getting faster because the gpu's are growing in size and they cram more power into them. They're not getting much faster because they develop more efficient GPU's. With the current RTX cards and this new RX 6xxx cards we have some very powerful cards that will work fine for 99% of the market... so let's keep the performance where it is now and try to (dratically) reduce the power they use.

Hey Jay TwoCents, I like to make a video recommendation for you. I recently convinced my friend to join the PC Master Race instead a forking out for a new console. originally he wanted to build his own as most of our friends had built there's (except me who lives in a foreign country so I game on a laptop) however with the chip shortages and the fact neither of us have built a pc before (I was going to try to help him from japan via video messaging) we decided together to look for a decent pre built for, him with the idea that if he wanted to upgrade later he could or if he wasn't pleased with it he could get his money back by stripping it and selling for parts (not scalping but he isn't rich) he ended up buying A acer predator orion 3000 with intel i7-10700, 16gb ram and Nvidia geforce 3070. not sure what the mother board is. He has had it for about a week now (ironically he could probably now sell the gpu alone to cover the cost of the system now). yesterday he was telling me he is going to send it back because it was faulty. he described the issue as hanging. he said every hour or so the system would "hang" for about half a second, everything would freeze and the cpu would hit 154% usage and then drop to normal levels and carry on as if nothing happened. the main issue when this happened was that his discord would not send or receive voice or audio even though he was still connected to the channel when he reconnected it would be all good. I decided to trouble shoot the issue with him first to be sure there was a hardware fault and not something else. please bare in mind everything I know about computers comes from watching you guys and the other guy I wont mention with the fancy water bottles. he sent me a screen shot of task manager when the issue happened and all cpu cores seemed to spike at the same time then drop. we ran intel diagnostics tool came up fine, got him to update all drivers and such. having checked what I know to do I had him check bios to see if anything didn't look normal (not that I really know what normal should look like) his cpu is running hot at 72 degrees but not crazy hot maybe bad application of thermal paste or pour fans. finally I asked him to try a different plug socket just incase there was an electrical issue with the socket he was using. he then sent me the screen shot of his "cable management" he literally has a 5 year old surge bar maxed out with various plugs and a second surge connected to that almost equally full (sigh) I had him plug directly to the mains and we loaded up a game and discord to see if that had fixed the problem. it seems to have worked after several hours of gaming no "hang". looking at the plugs I thought straight away that was going to be it. Realistically the fault was there but honestly I have no idea why that would/could effect a CPU behaving in the way that it did. so if you could do a video on PSUs and CPU and what internal and external problems can occur in a computer id love to watch it. sorry for the long post.
@JayzTwoCents on 20:30 there is an easy way to avoid that situation. Just pressing CTRL when windows logs in, as afterburner help says, will avoid the OC settings of being applied

Showcasing Afterburner was neat to see since I use it myself to mainly monitor GPU and CPU temperatures in game and seeing favorable numbers is almost too enjoyable. When I did use Nvidia GPU's, I liked them less when their program demanded I log in with some sort of account. Yeah bugger off. Glad manual drivers exist. I do agree when I do look at GPU's I check RAM amounts along with size and price. Oh, and if my PSU can handle it.
I have a question, In MSI Afterburner I have over clocked my GPU core clock to +170 which is the max before it crashes in Kombustor, and my memory clock +850 which is max before it crashed in Kombustor. I really appreciate these kind of videos! You broke this down really well!! Thank you!
Built my first pc today thanks for the help and inspiration! You'd be goddamn ashamed of my cable management though... I'm just glad it runs
all it takes is about an hour to run all the cables through and behind the desk or wherever. Just do it lol
Every time I see the new logo I think of "Jay Tech Chips" XD

Funny
Lmao me too
Can you cover the exact same, but for CPU settings in the bios? I've wanted to get into overclocking, but the amount of stuff I'd have to read to just understand all the knobs and gears is overwhelming, so it'd be extremely appreciated, and not just by me I'd say :)
Loved the video, I would like to see something related to Ryzen overclocking, specially with the ram stuff (speed, timing, etc.)
Still having PWR, VRel, and VOp being the cap reason after maxing out the power limit in afterburner.
afterburner. You can override the overclock by holding the ctrl key when windows is starting up. No need to go into safe mode
When our tech gets so good that the graphics cards get smaller will be a good time...
still waiting for an itx (175mm long) rtx 3000 series card. I hope 3060ti with little bit smaller powertarget will be avaiable. :D
Smaller but I imagine they’d get heavier as well.
@@John_Notmylastname right lol have it chain suspended from the top of our rigs 😂
And hopefully, less power hungry.
I'm so glad I found this channel about a month ago
How?!?!?!?!!!!!
Just found out? Boi you’re missing a lot
"Welcome to the family, son"
There's so much great stuff, enjoy :D (I myself only found Jay(and all of the tech youtubers lol)) summer of 2019, been loving it ever since!
Thanks again, Jay. Another spot-on educational video that demystifies the GPU, which, let’s be honest, is usually the one part in a gaming rig that attracts a lot of myth and legend.
This is fantastic. Can you do the same kind of breakdown with AMD Ryzen Master, or some kind of CPU overclocking!?
Congrats on the 3 million subs 👏 you've earned it. Thank you for all you do.
"You wouldn't download a shirt!" Phil just won quote of 2020 lol
Thanks man I really needed this video. Especially since you might give a 3090 to someone who knows nothing about PCs😂
P.S. if told me that I was the third viewer😃
@JayzTwoCents on 20:30 there is an easy way to avoid that situation. Just pressing CTRL when windows logs in, as afterburner help says, will avoid the OC settings of being applied
Jay, will never go old. He going to stay young in his mind
Wating for the AMD tutorial then.
Pretty good and understandable!
It's the same thing for AMD cards... everything he said works for AMD aswell.
@@Fidelis94 for AMD, you can use AMD Radeon Software then go into the Performance tab. It's a bit more advanced because you can create a global profile for everything or a profile for specific executable (games)
more beginner guides like this please! maybe cover building PC's, pairing/balancing components, optimal configurations, fan placement, basics of monitor specs, etc.
Thanks Jay! Over clocked for the first time after watching this. Got my 980ti up to 1500mhz and added about 10FPS to my games!
goodluck to everyone who entered in the less than 24 hours contest :D
yeah, that really pushed the subscriber numbers :o
I love revisiting these older videos. They make a good refresher if you've taken some time away from doing stuff like this and afraid you may have forgotten something.
Me every time I make a new build, upgrade to new parts, or just wanna make sure I didn't mess up on my software settings
OMG JAY HAS ANOTHER 3070 MEANWHILE NONE OF US CAN GET ONE. I'm so upset that I'm going to leave a comment even though I was never in the market for a new graphics card anyway I just want to be noticed by the herd of people complaining. This is ridiculous, HOW DARE HE make educational videos to inform us on the products we desire! UNFORGIVABLE!
@@AbyNeon Since when is it cheaper?
I Got a rtx 3070 gigabyte gaming oc
@@AbyNeon What are you talking about? You said the 2080ti is cheaper then a 3070 which it isn't lol now all of a sudden you're talking about 3090's. The founders edition cards are the cheapest yes but they are NOT the best. Every single aftermarket board partner card performs better then the founders edition. Out of every 3000 series card made the founders edition has the worst performance.
@@thegraal9607 The comment was satire bro...
@@AbyNeon are you outa your mind? almost everything you commented so far is false lmao wtf
Cover undervolting please!!!
"This Graphics card can clock up to 2145Mhz!"... while i'm sitting with a R9 380 which can clock up to 980 Mhz...
@once_upon_a_time in_a_land_far_far_away well i can't at least not at the quality i want them to play. I payed for these games so I want to see everything inclduing the graphics. So playing with low settings with high fps is a nono for me.
And RX 6800 XT can get to 2800 MHz... so? Frequency is irrelevant across different architectures.
@@legendarysannin65 I mean, if you’re playing on a midrange card from 5 years ago. You have to make compromises somewhere. That’s either your FPS, your graphics settings or your wallet. I mean the good news is that games where high FPS actually matter usually run pretty well even on older cards, but you’re not really in a position to be a snob with your setup lol.
Good god, slow down. The title says beginners.
Thanks for the video! Yep, these 30 series Nvidia cards are massive! Soon they'll come with an additional PSU included :)
While the majority of 5 year olds are learning to dress themselves & to count to 10, Jay was building PCs. What a guy!
While 5 year olds were going to school jay was making videos
Is "bad misinformation" actually good information? ;)
Part 2 should be a video going over graphics card settings in the nvidia control panel and the amd equivalent, as well as going over general monitor settings. I doubt most people know how to turn on their freesync or gsync, nor how to overclock their monitor. Kind of a get the most out of the graphics thing.
Hey Jay, I really appreciate these instructional videos (as well as the rest your videos). Your channel has pretty much single handedly prepared myself for my own build which I completed last spring. Thanks you for your vids and the entertainment!
When you say don’t daisy chain you power cords are you saying don’t use the single power cable even when they have multiple 8 pins attached ?
yes, you need two cables
Jay just casually having a huge cylinder of liquid nitrogen behind him (Nothing odd to see here)😂
Thats because these tips are too hot to handle
@@Freekymoho 😂
This was so helpful! i've always been timid with adjusting those settings it is a relief to know that other than voltage adjustment (which i do have enabled on my 2070) I can not fry or destroy my investment. Cheers to these videos keep them coming
Next video we need is how to squeeze the most out of your graphics card. Thanks!
Awesome! As someone going from a GTX 560 to a 3080 in my new build this is really helpful to understand what everyone has been doing really fast in a lot of the testing/OC videos lately. Coming from such an old system I’m not feeling the need to OC just yet since it already feels blazing fast, but now I’ll be able to make better sense of testing my silicon lottery results.
Dude same lmao, going from GTX 960 to 6800XT
Jay, thank you for all your content and everything you do. You're an inspiration to the other old salty people. Keep it up!
2:12 untill you saw the 4000 series lol
You gotta untwist those AIO tubes, its like 3 or 4 videos now Ive seen them in and its causing me pain! Lol j/k thanks for another great video
this was very helpful, thank you for taking the time to help a noob out.
Congrats on 3 million 🥲amazing milestones so happy 4 u and I don’t even know u like that 😂
unigine heaven is not good for reference!! directx12 raytracing is not supported so they dont account for full stability!!!
im able to run it with 160mhz oc but i have to limit it down to 100mhz on raytracing.
you can just about use any raytracing supported games to fully test those stability.
You dont need to uninstall afterburner in safemode, there is a keybind you can hold while the pc boots to not trigger the auto overclock.
Ctrl by default. So just hold down Ctrl while the pc starts until you've been on the desktop for a couple seconds
Yes, I need this video to understand that my 1050ti is no good for new games :(
lol upgrade that.
Hey jay I'm thinking about upgrading my rtx 2060 to a 3080 but I have a ryzen7 3700x do I have to upgrade my cpu to a ryzen 9 I'm a new pc person
7:30 29 watts of 50 watts
Jay: "It's more than two thirds!"
"close" to 3/5ths, 60% which is close to 66% ( 2/3rds )....... yeah checks out.

@@gardian06_85 close would be accurate but he said more. 60 is not more than 66. Unless you don't math correctly
I would reaaaaaallly love a Jayztwocents advanced overclocking series! Been doing some basic CPU, RAM and GPU overclocking. But there's so much more to fiddle with.
Loving the content! Very new to the pc world. Just bought my first gaming pc but hoping to build as soon as gpus become more readily available.
Can you guys please do a video on optimal settings in the Nvidia control panel for RTX cards and GSync ? I've read a lot of guides and none of them seem to agree with each other.
14:40 is the key knowledge moment here. And learning to look at the `PerfCap Reason` field. Thanks!
Thanks for doing this video. Knowing me I'd probably end up confusing myself with the PCI 4.0 slot wondering if reverse compatibility is a thing. Oh, and if my PSU can handle it.
i love going into this video with more than a decade of experience and leaving questioning my self. thanks Jay. Thanks.
I have a question, In MSI Afterburner I have over clocked my GPU core clock to +170 which is the max before it crashes in Kombustor, and my memory clock +850 which is max before it crashed in Kombustor. So since its overclocked I should be getting a better performance, but I don't get any more performance with it overclocked. In MSI Kombustor I literally only get 12 fps, stock and when it is overclocked as above I still only get 12 fps. I don't even get more performance in games. Please help me or let me know what's happening. Help Me JAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s get that 3090! Good luck everyone that entered 😏

I've always wondered how overclocking in afterburner works. This has been really helpful, thank you Jay!
I never read instructions. I avoid good advice when given. That's why I buy two of everything.. . When I destroy the first one, I pay attention.. .
Omg this is the 100th time ive heard you say that you need to uninstall. SImply hold ctrl key when logging into desktop and it wont apply the profile. SImply hover over the startup key in after burner and it tells you....
