I've seen people theorise that the TARDIS put a coffee maker in the console purely because it knew that Donna would inevitably spill a cup and cause a "malfunction", and it wanted an excuse to keep her around for a bit and take her on another proper trip.

That mischievous TARDIS. I love that theory... adding a coffee-maker and skipping over the waterproofing as an excuse to take Donna on another adventure.

5:10 the change of the sonic screwdriver was actually explained in a doctor who magazine comic which was released some time ago. It covers the first hour of the 14th Doctor and connects directly to the children in need special. In it the sonic gets destroyed by a Dalek (twice actually)

Oh Spencer, the way you react is just the best. Long time viewer, and never subscribed. Apologies. Fixed that now. Here with you for the 14th and 15th Doctor's ride 🎉

When Rose said "non-binary" during the meta-crisis awakening... I think she's using it in the broader sense or, more specifically, Russell T Davies is using it in that broader sense - the sense that the whole concept of gender isn't binary, it's non-binary; some people are born one way and transition to the other, some people land somewhere in between. But she is - both the actress and the character, I believe - a trans woman, not non-binary in the sense that she identifies that way, but non-binary in a more sort of collective sense...
In-story it isn't really explained, but I think you can make sense of it there too. Like... I do think Russell T Davies can be a bit clumsy and heavy-handed with his dialogue and that's probably more what this is, but you can justify it in the sense that the meta-crisis was a "binary" crisis - it was the Doctor and Donna - and unknown to the Doctor at the time it was possible to resolve the crisis by involving a third party, so ternary instead of binary. This dissipates the meta-crisis energy enough to wibbly-wobbly sci-fi handwave away the problem.
I saw another reactor thinking that the episode implied that the meta-crisis is what made Rose trans in the first place... I don't think that's the case. At least I don't think that is explicitly stated. But some people might think that way and it might lend more to the idea that it took a non-binary solution to resolve the meta-crisis; it took Rose being trans for it to be possible. Whether or not that is RTD's intention, I think it's probably better that it's unstated - trans people should be able to exist in stories without their transness being essential. They should be included in stories where their being trans is just incidental too.
Great episode; it really feels like Russell, David and Catherine never left. Like I said, RTD can be a bit heavy-handed and hand-wavey (why did the streets heal? just to avoid consequences, of course), but he tells these big silly stories very, very well!

Wow that was pretty smart of you.. I don't think any other reaction I've watched that the person predicted that the genetics were passed down to Rose. Also I love how no one questioned how Dona knew that he used to be a woman.. of course we find out why in the next episode or 2 but I still love how no one questioned it 😂

27:02 meep reminded me some of a bigger Moopsy (with gnarly fingers) from STLD 😮 😂

I love the comparison. 😂 I think I saw someone say the same on Twitter. Although, I’d argue the Moopsy was cuter and stayed cute even after finding out it’s not so cuddly haha

I enjoy the new Sonic, if the Sonic is so Powerful doing anything but wood, HAVE it do everything (but wood) so i'm totally fine with greating displays and shields.
The Special was wonderful i felt at home instantly, starting with the Intro, it's so Series 4 but 1000x the budget, We got Donna back, a fancy new Interior....gosh.

The joke at the end was, Donna dumped her coffee on to the TARDIS console on purpose, in hopes of launching an adventure. It wasn’t by stupidity, or clumsiness.

Loved this! Had no idea it was coming, living across the pond. Haven't seen Mister Who since it left Netflix, somewhere in Capaldi. Just logged into D+ for morning Simpsons and what a pleasant surprise.
The openning was a nice "last time on Doctor Who", for all three groups: those very current, those returning since Whi left Netflix (me!), and the poor Yanks who have never seen any Who.
Given Moopsy, I was expecting a bone-eating monster. However solving the metacrisis is clever, in a very Who way. Who works best if you turn your brain off. ; )

In case you didn't see it in the video description:
    SPOILER WARNING:
I had seen a few leaked images of the filming of these specials, plus I make assumptions based on what was seen in the trailers, so just be aware. You can always skip my speculations and just watch the reaction using the provided timestamps.

I think The Boss or something else influenced Donna to do that

From what I've heard, this story is a ''rewrite'' of a Doctor Who comic strip from the '80s called ''The Star Beast'', which starred the 4th Doctor. I didn't read it though, so I was as surprised as you were when the Meep turned out to be a baddie. 😄

    • @spamsir
      @spamsir  9 месяцев назад

Yeah, I’m grateful to not have been spoiled for that! I was aware of the Meep’s existence in a comic, but I didn’t look into it any further than that. I didn’t realize it was a direct retelling of that story, so that’s pretty awesome!

@@spamsir I love it when shows pay respect to previously non-canon stories (and their creators). Some consider it to be ''cheap'' but if there's a great story out there, why not use it, right?

They did film most of his scenes, though. Cutting them out now would be quite disrespectful.
