Trent, it's amazing. Your story is exactly like mine, (I'm a slow single tongue person,) except you have put in much more practice and sound great. I'm still struggling with playing fast passages but I am now determined to practice the double tonguing technique. I play in a community band and "get by" by playing every other note, letting the other trombones cover for me. Perhaps in the next year, if I dedicate myself to more practice, I can participate fully. Thanks again for sharing your insight. (Pennsylvania, USA)
Cornet is his main instrument. He's played cornet in many brass bands/military and salvation bands. He made a bunch of videos about the trombone back in these days.
Hi Trent! Thank you so much for your videos on RUclips and this particular video on tonguing. Your explanation is one of the clearest on the subject and I like that your reviewed the physical processes to achieve the different methods, single vs double vs triple. Brilliant indeed, Sir! Thank you! Rob T-Bone Allen in Thailand.
"k" is a sound you also produce your with your tongue, only it shuts up the throat with another part of it. Love your videos, I hope to see more in the future!
I was a horn player, and I didn't do so well tonguing notes. I really prefer slower "ballads" because I love the creamy smooth and golden sound of the instrument.
I too had a slower single tongue than my peers and was yet another reason to learn and develop my double and triple tongue. What got me the really comfortable with almost any tempo is replacing even slower musical lines with double tongue (rather than single tongue) so that there can be an overlapping of the two articulation types. Regarding triple tongue, people seem to be proficient at both variations ("ta ta ka" and "ta ka ta"), so it seems to mostly be preference.
Hey Trent, can you make a video on flutter tonguing? I have a show to perform in about 3 weeks and need to flutter tongue but am having trouble doing so.
@@JoCE2305 Look up videos on how to roll your Rs. a lot of people think you have to be born with it, but it's not true, anyone can learn to roll Rs. but if you can't do that, you can always sort of make a gargling sound, like with mouthwash if you know what I mean. It'll make a very similar sound
Hey Trent, As you may remember I wanted to learn a brass instrument. Well, now I am. I recently obtained a marching baritone horn so I can march it. Do those skills (besides the piston fingerings) transfer to the trombone? What about trumpet, euphonium, and tuba? Also, can you do a video specifically about the Baritone horn?
Well from experience it's easier to switch from tuba and euphonium(basically baritone) VERY easily but from trumpet your switching from treble clef to bass though fingerings are all the same, the clefs are what makes the transition from trumpet to tuba very hard plus you gotta loosen or tighten your lips depending on the mouth piece hope that helps
Thank god! I have to play Legend by Georges Enesco as my High School and All-State audition. This helped me prepare for the double and triple tounging.

I find it quite misleading that the soft tongue is referred to as "da," as it's not really a "d" sound being made, it's a lot more a strong "ra," where the tongue starts where it would make an "r" but ends with a sound that is similar to a "d."
