Egon had a non speaking role in Ghostbuster's Afterlife (RIP Harold Ramis) and he still had better lines then anyone in Ghost Busters Answer the Call.

Even better when you remember in the first film he praticly doesn't smile at all safe for a one little scene. It was a character trait Harold gave to the character. Showing then how much Egon became more easy going after a few years.

It’s like the type of insults I yell at my cat. “You have defective tyrosinase that cannot even make a pheomelanin molecule at your own body temperature!” (Translation: he’s a Siamese, in particular one with ginger pigment)
All of this is pure gold, but the two lines that always get me are "Do... ray... Egon...", and him putting his fist up and saying "YO!" in the construction scene. What would be over-explained jokes in so many other comedies are "blink and you'll miss it" zings in GB and GB2 that just flow and don't interrupt or pause the scene. RIP, Harold, you brilliant man.

@Epicthomas 2000 I think it also has something to do with mi so Egon is saying his name in place of mi.
At the end of the do re egon scene, egon looks at Spengler and grins omg such comedy classic!!! He will surely be missed and stripes...god what a perfect combo of Harold and Bill Murray....so sad he's gone:(
@@guybrushthreepwood2014The sound their particle throwers make when switched back on was like music to Peter and Ray. "Do Re Mi" is sung in Solfeggio when learning or practicing notes on a musical scale. One interpretation for Egon's response, is that like you, he doesn't get it either, and that he sings his name instead of "mi," because "Re" sounds like "Ray."
Alternative interpretation: Egon absolutely gets it and made a joke at Peter's expense.
Egon's smirk kind a points to the second interpretation, but it's also possible that he immediately understood (or at least understood that he didn't sing the right thing) after getting that look from Peter, and smiled because he liked that it bugged him.
Either way, it's very funny.
It's not debatable: he had the best lines in this movie.

His parents didn't believe in toys, yet this genius builds an unlicensed nuclear accelerator small enough to fit on a humans back, in the 80s no less, and has the ability to work at full capacity for 5000 years. And the best part, the US government didn't do anything to take them because it was efficient... and we all know how government resists efficiency...
The relief he must have felt when Ray and Venkman showed up with their social skills to the cop.
I love how Egon can explain anything scientific, but when it's time to concoct a bullshit cover story he knows to call Venkman over: "BOSS!!"

I'm gonna say it, while the first GB was a better movie overall, I think GB2 was actually the funnier movie. Do, Ray, Egon always cracks me up. The face on the judge after Tully's story is priceless and Egon's "short but pointless" comment straight after is gold.

Egon was quick on getting Peter to do the talking. He knew he'd fuck it up, and knew he was in thin ice with that "It's cutting fine" line. Egon is what I strive for in "making someone else do the talking."

I always liked that painting depicting them as light bearers showing the role of the warrior, the wisdom, the knowledge and the will. It makes sense taking into account their tools and their cunning.

Coming back after watching Ghostbusters Afterlife and McKenna Grace really was able to channel Harold Ramis and was amazing as Egons Granddaughter she had me laughing and crying just as much as her goofy grandfather in the og films
We all still wish you could've been there Harold Ramis I am sure you would've loved the Character of Phoebe and the actress that plays her McKenna Grace.
The orchestral score of 1984's _Ghostbusters_ is in every way superior to that of the second -- just as you'd expect, given that it was composed by Elmer Bernstein -- but the orchestral swell at 1:56 is one of the few moments when the second film's score almost manages to reach the glory of the first one.
Yes, it really is a shame that he turned down the offer to compose the score for the sequel.
Hey so obivously the original soundtrack is great, but there's nothing wrong with this score. the drilling parts and "in libertys shadow" are great pieces of film music. the light hearted "central music" of the film, the piano score, while childlike, fits because the story is centered around baby oscar.
Everybody knows both scores fit both movies perfectly. Weird and eerie in 1, fitting for children yet haunting 2.
He knew that the second one wasn't going to be the massive hit from '84. Even the actors didn't want to return. Columbia Pictures pressure.

Always bothered me about that. “It’s not as good as the original so it’s bad” it’s such a dumb criticism. Same for Robocop 2, Predator 2, Jaws 2, Halloween 2, Nightmare on elm street 2, and many more I’m probably missing. Ghostbusters 2 is a worthy sequel and a wonderful time!
It is the classic 80s/90s sequel. Basically the same movie as the first one.
You know despite our loved for Venkman, but feel Egon was a bit underrated. I'm glad they really explored his character more in the sequel. RIP.
