Proper down to earth humble guy, makes a refreshing change from listening to Morad chat shit in every video! 😁 I run 4 bass shakers, BST-1's and 2 Fosi amps, 2 shakers on the bottom of the fibreglass seat and 2 on the back, running engine vibrations and gear shifts on the back 2 and suspension impact and various road impacts on the bottom 2, honestly it's the next best thing to motion for me! Would love to get your feedback on a system like that compared to an actual GT3!
@ just generally not genuine. reviews have very clear bias and some even incorrect information to push the product he is reviewing. among other things with his apparel brand that i dont know too much about
A little thing I noticed, because my sim magic haptic motor is fitted the same way on my heusinkveld pedals. Your motor is loose and it always gets loose because the two little screws don't hold with the vibrations. I suggest to use lock tite on the screws or a strong contact glue. That's what I did, it stops the motor from getting loose and you will feel the abs or lockups much more. Also if you can add 4 buttkickers or other bass shakers its less expensive than motion and very cool for immersion and extra informations when set properly, especially when using VR. It makes the rig feel alive.
Hi James, very good content thanks. I also use AC to prep for my real races in China, I found setting track grip to dynamic starting with 93% to 95%feels closer to realism, especially on street circuit.
I do use VR on a gtx 1650 or a monitor, I am still working a average job, nothing lucrative and I am working to save up a computer to build, I am working really hard to become a competitive racer, whether its a big series or small local track , I hope I have the potential it takes to compete with these amazing drivers. If not I'll be happy working the pits, or just an automechanic shop. I love cars, I want to make my career and life out of them. This video is a huge inspiration to me knowing there are people out there just like me who can get the career and the opportunity to do something so incredible. Amazing video.
@@AL.farmlife haha yes his reasoning is logical from a certain standpoint. His point is it's more intense and you get more sweaty and it's harder to get good fps and usefull overlays and good resolution. All valid points for pro sim racers from a competitive perspective. But if you are a real racer you want an experience that emulates real life as close as possible and the depth perception makes a huge difference to learn a track fast and efficient, braking points and so on. So if you are an actual racer, I think VR is the better tool and offcourse VR glasses and PC hardware is getting better and better. Eventually I am convinced the majority will race in VR.
Few bits I've felt have been worth it too are Bass Shaker under the pedal tray for wheel lock, you can feel it through the whole ri and another transducer for the throttle pedal and add a blimp on gear change, not sure how real this is, but it feels good.
Literally did the same exact thing. I want to be a nascar driver and I set everything up on my rig to be as close to a nascar as possible. Cool to see I’m not the only one that has done it.
You're absolutely right about motion - at best it can aid immersion and provide a certain amount of information for a "sim racer", but for you it's going to be sending the wrong signals - a motion rig simply doesn't translate to real world driving. It's expensive, and you probably won't get the benefit in the way that you actually need.
Good to see how well the transition from sim to real helps. I've also found it also works well from real to sim. Having driven cadwell park in various peugeot hot hatches when the track was released on iracing i was literally only a couple of tenths away from one of the fastest mx5 drivers on iracing where as I'm normally about a second off. Quest 3 is awesome got it paired with a 9800x3d ( blows the 7800x3d easily away ). A Buttkicker gamer plus adds incredible immersion in vr. Gives me better car control as I feel road texture/bumps, losing traction, locking up, gear changes. Will try haptic pedals next.
What a great video for those who want to be in those details close to the maximum simulation! ps: It has a picture with Fangio in it... that is already respect for me!!!
Your amazing James and you are so down to earth and so humble. Such respect for you. I love it in VR and having that immersion experience of being in a GT3/4 car. I totally agree it’s better than using a monitor I just can’t go back now. That’s a great idea about having haptics on the brakes will have to look into that then it will be complete Thank you 🙏
James why don’t you add 4 corners bass shakers? It isn’t motion, but it’s quite a lot cheaper and apparently it’s good in giving feedback. Slip angle sell a kit and I think boosted media has done a review on it
I was waiting for the Porsche 992 and completely forgot about it... and then on 25th December I spotted the email from RSS and couldn't believe my eyes 😀 Hopefully the 720 will come sooner or later this year
You have nearly my same rig, SC2 pro here andh HE ultimate+ where i replaced the brake with one simucube active pedal ultimate. This is the greatest piece of hardware a simracer can try, you definitely should try it. The ABS feedback is amazing, fully customizable as well. But the best thing is that you can change the force curve with one slider in every moment, this is the real game changer
If your tactile has a noticable delay, and it goes through a sound card, check that device 'disable all enhancements' checked in the sound control panel. Saves at least 50ms.
Great video! It's funny you mentioned measuring every distance in the real car being a waste of time, knowing that Tim Heinemann actually did this when he rebuilt his rig after getting his GT3 gig
I would absolutely look at getting the Qubic BT-1 belt tensioner. Its not cheap, but its fantastic for immersion and simulating g-force, as well as haptics such as engine vibrations through your body. Since I've added this to my rig, its been amazing. As for motion, since Simhub has come out with motion support, I find the SFX-150 system I use (e-Racing Labs) and using Simhub not only adds to the immersion, but I cannot detect any delay at all. You can pick up this setup for relatively cheap too (about $3k USD shipped). Start with the BT-1 first, you wont be disappointed.
You asked what to add to the rig. I’d say 2 or maybe 4 Dayton BST-1 bass shakers. Set them up to convey understeer or slip or whatever with SimHub. I’d actually be interested in how you set them up for best results!
Something you could add is a buttkicker. You attach it to the back of your seat and it will give you that extra bit of info that just the wheel might not be able to produce
Really love this channel! Love that you are using VR because it most certainly puts you in the car more than anything else. With that said I use the quest 3 like you and you need to get a better head strap for comfort (aubika is good). Also there are aftermarket facial interfaces for quest 3 that are more comfortable and block all the light out for max immersion).
Super honest video - thank you 😊. A lot of great comments here that I'll second. Seeing you using VR is awesome. The youtube 'Race Beyond Matters' is excellent for all sim related hardware and the Slip Angle 4 corner base shakers are very very good. In my humble opinion, the next best upgrade without going full motion is the QS-BT1 dual seat belt tensioner. (See Race Beyond Matters review). I ordered one a week ago. On the topic of motion though, I have a D-Box gen 5 motion rig and spent a good amount of time tweaking it. Its true that most folks overdo the actual motion. Too much travel, it needs to be shorter, quicker movements. Im also in VR and the combination is mad! I'd love to see what you think of my rig. If you are keen, the offer is there. Im an hour outside of London. Genuine offer but no stress either way. 😊
Lmao I downloaded that car mod a few weeks ago and didn't use it for more than 15 mins because I thought it was just the 650s GT3 reskinned, turns out the man himself used it for real life prep. On my way to downloading it again
I think the Rennsport version of this track looks a lot better, and the car handling isn't as bad as people say. In fact, I get more road and abs force feedback than on acc
Yet another great video. I want to put a ABS FB on my setting, I thing is awesome and also think it improves immersion, will investigate. Hope this year you are back in and we can watch you rock even more. Happy new year man.
I'm in the process of building my rig now, was going to get those Simagic haptic motors, but decided to go for the Dayton audio exciters instead,. Using the exciters along with the Slip-angle kit would be good enough for me to feel what's going on with the car without using a motion kit.
You should look into the big screen beyond. It’s a VR headset that’s designed for applications specifically like sim racing. It’s more expensive and more difficult to setup, but in exchange you get significantly better comfort, better viewing angle, and no worry about battery life.
quest3 has unlimited playtime wired you won't win anything there. bigscreen has 10degree smaller fov, smaller sweat spot, worse lenses clarity, only 90hz against 120 and it drops resolution to 1920x1920 on 90hz which is way lower then quest3. it's literally a downgrade on all fronts except comfort.
Wind sim, it’s the latest element I’m currently adding for immersion. Up till now butt kickers were the best immersion mod purchase excluding of course vr
Like others, I would say some haptics. I’d do at minimum a left /right set up on the seat which gives a lot of that seat of the pants feel of the road and curbs etc when dialed in properly. I am absolutely messed up now if I forget to turn them on. I’ve also added front left / right to isolated heal plates that has also added. And run the road and curb effects through them. Then using the simagic sim the heus pedals run abs on the brake and tc/slip on the throttle. Would be interesting to see how that in particular would benefit or hinder having that information to a real racer through the actual pedal vs feeling the slip of the car in the wheel and seat.
Wow, what a nice video. Tank you for showing us your tricks. In my opinion the only advices that I can give you are: 1)Try to use some gloves 2)install a set of racing belts :)
You could replicate the car's actual dashboard and use the Quest 3 cameras in conjunction with the program 'Mixed Reality' to cut out the virtual world and see your in real life dashboard and interact with it.
All id change is for the headset id get the big screen beyond and a pair of iems like the sivga que and make sure nvidia low latency is set to on in control panel
Great video! I would love it if you could share your Simhub settings profile for the HPR haptics. It'd be great to have settings that you think are close to the ABS feel of the real GT3. If possible!?
Check out the PT Actuators motion system, it's relatively new and claims to outperform DBOX at a lower price. I don't have any experience with it whatsoever, nor motion in general, but I've heard the name floating around and it seems intriguing.
I dont know what motion systems you have tried James, but the Qubic QS220 should be some of the “fastest” out there. Just if you want to look into something again. I really thought you would have moved to active pedal by now - is that something you are planning on? Thank you for sharing once again, you are a legend! 🎉
hey James, great video. The reason you´re are faster at sim, is not only the exploits, as you call it. Mostly its because you´re BoPed else in the sim. As an example GT3 is BoPed in SRO else like in WEC (slow because LMP2 must be quicker). When a GT3 car leaves the factory there is no BoP and this is what Assetto Corsa gives you, when i am right. Just the BOP of the Devs, which is mostly as close to factory Spec as it gets.
How do you decide on a TC and ABS setting? Are you trying to match what you'd have the car set up with in real life or does the sim help inform your real life settings?
Happy new year bro! I hope you have amazing success this 2025! I totally agree with your conclusion on detachment, but why keep the pedals moving an not just thebseat? I just heard James Balwin say in his last video that the front Gs generated from braking pushes your body into the brakes so a 100kg pedal feels like 60kg. I don't think it is a great difference but you made me think since I will pursue motion in my rig this year
Currently I’ve got a Moza R9, CS2 wheel and full pedals and I’ve been using VR as well to help with driving. It gives a better experience and sense of depth perception but I think to get more the feel for GT style racing I need a GT type wheel cause normal wheel is good for road cars but feels too cumbersome for GT racing
Hi James you look to be seating fairly up right in the rig. Could you highlight your driving position ergonomics more specifically in a vid? I’m struggling with back pain if I lean the seat back a little. And that improves if I move the seat tilted more vertically upright, but then I strain knees and thighs when I move the seat that way. Looking to try a new “baseline” and yours looks a little different from the dozens of other rig setup videos I’ve watched trying to find my “sweet spot”. Thanks a bunch and congrats on the podium and a happy new year.
Amazing to see you use the Meta Quest3 James I have one aswell, the immersion is awesome, going back to flat screen is weird I'm about to upgrade my PC so I can get the best out of the Quest3, can you do a vid or post of your PC Spec, be interesting to know what handles Max settings for VR A Massive well done for your Jeddah Podium 🎉
Best upgrade for vr without doubt is a 9800x3d. I jumped up massively in resolution ( had a 7800x3d b4 ) with iracing. Coupled with a 4080 super on average I'm getting 2912 x xxxx per eye compared to 2676 x xxxx ( 7800x3d ). I Didn't see any difference between 5800x3d and 7800x3d on iracing.
You should try lowering the strength in Simucube to 12-15 Nm and setting the in-game gain to 100%. Everything feels much better, especially mid-corner and the overall FFB. Running the wheelbase at maximum Nm results in peaky forces and a vague feeling of lower forces. Give it a try.
Super cool video! I'd love to know what your settings are for your sim magic feedback for your pedals. I got a mount coming in the mail and will be setting them up on my rig.
I think a great video would be some teaching on how we can be faster. For me, I am about two seconds slower than the fastest guys, it would be nice to know how to shave off that two seconds. Obviously good driving and skill is still needed, but some tips would be awesome. Cheers, and great video BTW.
Ok I got it. Idea for more immersion. Build around the rig. And make the inside look like the inside of the car. Loo on YT for them. This is for BIG sim racing enthusiasts.
What I always wanted to kinow from a RL GT3 driver : How does your team manage the setup of the car when you have 3 different drivers on it for a race ? I mean. people go great lengths to replicate real life with their sim activities. But how does one change the setup of a car during the few minutes available during a drivers change ? Or would the drivers have to adapt to a "compromise" setup which works mostly for all three ?
A buttkicker maybe? Danny lee said they are very good after you get used to it and with the heptic motor on the brake it could be a good thing to get imo
Have you looked into rear traction loss instead of motion can help with the feeling of the limit on the rear of the car instead of just relying on the wheel switching to opposite lock
I resisted for a long time thinking them mildly gimmicky given my previous experience with the weak little haptic/rumble motors on the Fanatec V3s. Added a couple HPRs to a set of HE Ultimate+ brake and throttle and holy smokes. Was very surprised by how effective it is at giving ABS feedback on brake when you crank the gain up to 90% or higher. Throttle arguably less utilitarian, but can add some immersion-enhancement with stuff like slip/traction loss, impacts/kerbs and/or simple stuff like gear shift jolts. Wholeheartedly recommend them, can't overstate how useful it is on the brake when trying to ride on that limit of ABS or lock.
@@steveh4264 i completely agree with what you said because i to have the fanatec CSv3 as well. night and day difference with feedback and immersion. it sucks that LMU, currently, doesnt have the data simhub needs to utilize the haptic motors
I'd definitely get a buttkicker, or (this is what I've done) you can buy a bass shaker and an amp. It's much cheaper, and I think it's just as good. Also, how many bars is 1kg? I quite oten hear irl drivers saying the put "X bar" into the brake pedal but I never really know how much that is.
No need for motion. -Impossible to simulate sustained loads, laggy, initial jolt in opposite direction (watch Niels Heusinkveld's vid), requires lot of rig changes (move everything not essential or that may not like movements/vibrations, eg. integrated monitor mount/keyboard & mouse mounts, PC shelf, simhw PSUs, for sake of lightening weight & reducing inertia) and despite that costs a lot for something that is gimmick & makes one slower. You might consider belt tensioners (also laggy, but able to generate sustained loads), and bass-shakers/transducers. For later, possible extra need of vibro-decoupling or otherwise they will be of limited effectiveness on of little-flex rigid & heavy rig. Be it putting whole rig on springs (if 4 shakers in corners), or vibrodecoupling just pedal mount plate & seat (with addition to ellastic vibrodecouplers + hinge, to limit a bit added flex). While also a bit of gimmick, but at least not for motion platform money. Considering windsims useless/gimmick immersion wise (with speed regulation depending on speed telemetry), though physical knob adjusting cooling of self (especially if wearing heat generating VR set) to reduce sweating will be helpful. Unrealistic though, as otherwise you need hot air blower on you, to simulate 50C in cockpit or real race car :) . Apart from cooling, some extra small quality of life bits, like headphones/VR set hangers, spare wheel mounts, cup holder, cable management, easily accessible USB charging ports or power socket block.
Greetings. beautiful video. May I suggest the meta quest 3 open face interface? Strangely, it increases the sensation of greater FOV, without losing immersion.
If you find a low lag motion rig please share back. I want the DOF H3 but also don’t wanna bother if it’s laggy. Expensive item to just wing it to find out with. I also aim race for off season training/fun/practice (non professionally obviously)
Btw, I see you're sitting quite upright, mind sharing the seating angle for the back/bottom of the seat? Still struggling a bit with how to set this up on my rig.
Look at race beyond matters, don't think there's anyone out there having a sim rig closer to IRL then him, he probably having knowledge about most hardware out there
The only thing I’d change about your rig James is the room it’s in, I’d deffo have it in my room 😂 But on a serious note, how many laps did you put in on the sim to prep for a race like Jeddah?
I am surprised by the travel in your brake pedal. I assume this replicates the McLaren. By the way hit up Imsim in Portugal if you want low latency motion. Latency has been their focus for many years
Have you tried using haptics for the throttle? If so, would you recommend it? I'm definitely getting one for my brake to get that ABS feeling, but I can't decide if I should get one for throttle to get the feeling of TC.

Also for brands watching this, they are missing some marketing by not sponsoring James.
I honestly love jeddah as a track aswell the combo with the 720s gt3 is perfect
Mate an outstanding video, great insight. Good luck with your 2025 season 🎉
Maybe you can add bass shaker under the seat for engine vibrations and gear change(?)
hey James, great video. Just the BOP of the Devs, which is mostly as close to factory Spec as it gets.
i think race beyond matter he has great setup he really creates real looking car and feeling it is quite cool really is
How do you decide on a TC and ABS setting? Are you trying to match what you'd have the car set up with in real life or does the sim help inform your real life settings?
try a bigscreen beyond for vr, micro oled screens, higher hz and fov than quest 3. tiniest vr headset on the market
Active Pedals Although expensive could give you better abs and pedal feel
Amazing to see you use the Meta Quest3 James
I have one aswell, the immersion is awesome, going back to flat screen is weird
I'm about to upgrade my PC so I can get the best out of the Quest3, can you do a vid or post of your PC Spec, be interesting to know what handles Max settings for VR
A Massive well done for your Jeddah Podium 🎉
Cool stuff, I am thinking about getting some haptic motors for the pedals, I only have humble T-LCM pedals though so not sure.
Bro your living my dream keep going love the videos
2:01 I couldn't live with that 😂
Ok I got it.
Danny lee said they are very good after you get used to it and with the heptic motor on the brake it could be a good thing to get imo
you should try getting a buttkicker
or an HF8 Haptic Pad
I bought 1 and returned it. Uncomfortable and gets warm. @@roddy6924
yes amazing product for sim racing and flight and also shooter game music film etc etc
A Buttkicker gamer plus is amazing, zero delay. The car feels absolutely numb without it, like the bottom half of my body has been removed.
As everyone will state... Seat and pedal haptics for bumps, curbs and wheel slip.
Have you looked into rear traction loss instead of motion can help with the feeling of the limit on the rear of the car instead of just relying on the wheel switching to opposite lock
So interesting, great video.
james is not lying about the simagic haptic motors. theyre super good to have on your pedal(s)
@@steveh4264
i completely agree with what you said because i to have the fanatec CSv3 as well. night and day difference with feedback and immersion. it sucks that LMU, currently, doesnt have the data simhub needs to utilize the haptic motors
I'm not sure what you consider expensive for motion. E racing lab is roughly 3k. I like the setup
LOVE THIS!
Look at race beyond matters, don't think there's anyone out there having a sim rig closer to IRL then him, he probably having knowledge about most hardware out there
Check out the bigscreen beyond, it’s expensive tho
This guy is the guy that is mostly like me and is like me type. Also this this is the first time i’m watching this guy
Hey James. One thing I always had curiosity is the sense of speed, say on a straight. What can you tell us when you are on ACC?
The only thing I’d change about your rig James is the room it’s in, I’d deffo have it in my room 😂
But on a serious note, how many laps did you put in on the sim to prep for a race like Jeddah?
Is there something wrong with the bracket mounting the haptic reactor to the brake pedal? It has a huge amount of flex absorbing the haptics.
I am surprised by the travel in your brake pedal. I assume this replicates the McLaren. By the way hit up Imsim in Portugal if you want low latency motion. Latency has been their focus for many years
Have you tried the slip angle kit James?
Have you tried using haptics for the throttle? If so, would you recommend it? I'm definitely getting one for my brake to get that ABS feeling, but I can't decide if I should get one for throttle to get the feeling of TC.
Thx for sharing nice and practical
Get these seatbelts that tighten up!
