the counter is *alright* ??? the audacity ..... immunity, hyper armor, high damage combo, fills up your sword charge, great wake up move ... but hey... it's ok i guess....
Don’t forget about the hitbox
It is one of the slowest counters in the game, but all that other stuff makes up for it, plus it has a pretty generous window for getting the counter off with a guaranteed hit unlike some other counters
I use it to counter valTrax dive bomb

As a fellow swaxe player I didn't agree with everything in the video but I certainly enjoyed it and related to a lot of things you said, can't wait to see what Capcom has cooked for MHWilds
I mained gunlance for years...I went and watched videos on different weapons...charge blade I tried out and it just got to be to much to remember its combos and when to do this or that, tried out lance, same as gunlance to slow for me, bowgun? yeah got 2 hunts and said fuck that its boring. Then I saw a vid on Swaxe....so I went and made lightbreak SA and started small with high rank monsters to learn how it works without carting the whole time. now, I have downed alatreon, farm day of ruin consistently and its my go to in guiding lands now and I can hard bully ruiner nergy with it...its everything I loved about my old gunlance with explosions but I can move around so much more now and nothing is more fun than watching 3 other switchaxers in a group join up and we get our phials build up and those explosion slices start popping off and we end it with Amped dishcharge. If you are on the fence about this weapon...just pick it up man first 5 to 10 hunts are going to feel a little clunky but once you get the motions down and get a feel for its fluidity of swapping between sword and axe in combos. It becomes a damage MONSTER.
As a Switch Axe main I feel heard. Switch Axe though many people don't main it has to be one of the most popular due to how unique and awesome it can be. Even if you don't know what you're doing with it the Swaxe can be super fun. But when you do know what you're doing you can really dish out a lot of dps. I could probably ramble on about it but I'll just say that though it's not perfect and though the designs can be hard to get right when it looks awesome IT''S AWESOME, and though it's not the safest weapon and can be pretty reckless, it definitely feels rewarding when playing it.

This was great, I got many feels over my almost fav swax. I like how the hammer feels more though *in World. I like that every weapon is like a mini game that you get to play out and if you get all the parts right bigger numbers happen. So good.
Swaxe is 100% offense. All I’m saying is recklessly dying in the name of boom is the correct way to play swaxe.
Me playing switch axe: I don't know what I'm doing. But it seems like combos are stringing and I'm dealing a ton of damage. Oh I accidentally latched on to his face. Explosions. Cool.

Striker switch axe was such a powerhouse in mhgen (nerfed a bit in mhgu :c ), that demon riot +energy charge +absolute readiness set up was nutty with the silverwind mix

Not a real Switch Axe user if you don't make a different build for every Switch Axe you own. Elemental Phials makes you feel like you're cutting through butter with a hot knife.
Switch Axe is one of the funniest weapons to use in my opinion. Not only it have two completely different movesets to use. Every move have a distinct purpose (I'm talking about Iceborne, get that Rise away from my face), even moves like "shit stab" have such a long reach it's absolutly amazing and iceborne gave it nice boost in damage.
And then there's whole "Sword vs Axe Mode". Im going to say... WHY NOT BOTH? Not only it recharge some of your bar, both attacks can move you forward/backwards. Honestly transformation attacks probably the most underrated attacks in it's moveset. It's such a combo heavy weapon it's insane when you get the rythm. And dodging attacks such as Alatreon slam to beat it's head right after? Cheff's kiss. No doupt, best risk/reward weapon in Iceborne.
And then came Rise where most SA mechanics went out of the window and every weapon wants to be Longsword. F you Rise...
The Switch Axe's sheathe in rise feels like i maxxed out the Quick Sheathe skill! ITS SO FAST WHAT DO YOU MEAN!!! (I played chargeblade for a while and its sheathe is slow as heck lol)...

I use archfiend build for rise and fast recovery and evasion are my best friend 😂
I mained switchaxe in tri, and it was pretty fun, especially when you could saed spam the hell out of monsters, or slap them with the axe, like you're chopping down a tree made of monster parts! xD

ZSD in rise will also auto cancel out if the monster is hugging a wall and turns to make you enter the wall.

Its single handedly the worst move in gen 5 Monster Hunter. Youre literally better off just doing the old combo

Elemental burst counter is extremely good. Way more satisfying than a lot of other counters, pretty forgiving timing, crazy damage, insta sword gauge. If you aggro a monster with a sword attack you can usually counter the roar, starting at full meter right away. Please God capcom give switch axe a counter in Wilds!!!
I picked this weapon up for the first time in my return to MHW, not knowing what the hell I was doing, and was killing Monsters fairly easily. I was getting hit a bunch, but i'm still learning what is quickly becoming a favorite weapon.

The Wirestep is actually very good. Wirestep + Status Trigger + Adrenaline Rush + Build up Boost on a Status Power Phial SA and you'll be out damaging the elemental builds.

i love using switch axe in world, i'm so sad i started using it so late, i mained insect glaive for most of the game and it was only near the seething bazel fight i used switch axe.
i however dislike using switch axe in rise. i don't know if it's the extra roster of moves or because i dislike the game pace but something is off about it. it's quite sad as switch axe is my number one weapon in world and favorite overall

It a good movement option and very good if you over extend your swings and you need to fly back at the monster when you do you wyvern strike down with the switch axe and it does a lot of damage to and can stagger a lot
Also no knock back but you take some damage
I used it all through rise and sunbreak and never lose a quest yet soooooo give it a try
I originally wrote a segment about invincible gambit in the part discussing different rise skills. Completely forgot to put it in. Kinda shows my opinion on it. But I completely should have covered it. Thanks for bringing it up.

Swaxe in Rise/Sunbreak feels so good. When you have your switch skills set up right and know how to use your morph moves its like dancing (with explosions). Clutch claw was great, but wirebugs are superior. Unfortunately when you get stuck in that dreaded reload its even more painful.
lol rise/sunbreak actually spoiled SA so much for me that I had to switch to GS when going back to world.

Switch axe got boring to me, back in older games you could NOT stay in sword mode, so you had to when the monster went down. Now you can use the sword mode more than ever, they enhanced side steps after attacks(they actually feel pretty good) and for the cost of evade extender 2 you can jeep that sword mode going for big damage. Issue is, it makes axe mode less interesting, you deal less damage, dont charge your amp state, they tried to make it more appealing with the downward finisher that boosts your axe, its nice but.. no way near enough. In world your best way of dealing damage is to get in sword mode, charge the amp state, and then spam the hell out of SZD. Couple it with absolute power and stuff and the weapon is basically spamming the same attack over and over. As of sunbreak, tye made the amp state work with axe too which is huge, a d the emphasizedore on the switching ability of the weapon, you best dps being switching style after a double slash in sword mode. I LOVED the idea, but after some time it felt a bit remetitive as well. Not as bad as iceborne, not even close, but still a bit. Now add a free coubter that deals heck lot of damage, easy to pull off, that charges your amp for free and thats actually worth spamming for the damage. This killed my feeling with the weapon. I dknt blame them because they really tried to make the weapon cool and interesting, but to me it just doesnt hit the spot
Not to dismiss your criticism of the weapon (having used rise/sunbreak longsword extensively I get it), but this sounds to me like you're tying way too much of your fun using the weapon to the efficiency of the weapon's abilities, that if you're not doing close to optimal damage then you're not playing the weapon "right". Play what you find fun in a way that you find fun.

Compressed finishing discharge is goated, it may not have the best dps compared to the morph combo but it has high stagger and part break modifiers AND hyper armor, plus it's anime as fuck and it makes me feel like a badass, I enjoy a more axe oriented,tankier in your face playstyle that works really well with it.
I hope this becomes a series of every weapon
