How do you feel about the direction Bethesda is going with regards to future content releases? Are you concerned are you fine with this, let me know your thoughts!
To be clear, I think Starfield is getting a lot of things right finally and the quality of the Trackers Alliance starting quest was very high which is promising for future content releases. Monetization practices is another story, however and that's where my primary concern lies. My hope is that they can continue to refine the game and maybe pull a No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk and revitalize the game but the fundamental nature of the gameplay here makes me worried that that may not be possible. Some epic community creations could be the saving grace for this game if there are enough passionate people interested in making this happen.
Another Edit: Just gonna dump this here since I can't be bothered to reply to everyone who is clearly trying to twist my words based on the comments I'm seeing. I'm not sure why people think I hate this game when I have easily played more starfield than 99% of people on this planet and have consistently tried to call out the good that is has to offer while giving objectively sounds criticisms as well. My big criticism in this video if it still isn't clear at this point is the dangerous road we're going down with regards to MTXing content that should either be part of the core game release or a legimiate expansion and not some drip fed strategy that milks 70 bucks out of players for a handful of quests. If this succeeds it becomes a signal to major studios that consumers are willing to accept this as normal and we can say goodbye to proper releases and dlcs altogether (it's already been getting worse for a while). I want this game to succeed just like the rest of you, but I'm also not going to be silent about the objectively bad realities that need to be addressed either. That's just my 2 cents, and if you disagree that's all good

I think it is time I shelve and uninstall this game. Oh boy! Brand new content! "Yes! Only 7 USD per mission!" Or... I can buy a completely new game for the cost of a handful of missions too? Oh boy! I can craft new ammo just like I did in Fallout: New Vegas! "Yes! It will only cost you more gaming time to make it than you'll spend enjoying the game with it." I'm... glad for the graphics updates? Thank you, developers! I'm betting this is a management decision, though.
I also think console gamers really get the shaft on this one. No Nexus Mods for console players!
The prices on nearly everything has gone up. Now Bethesda wants to get into the "get excited everyone! But have your wallets/purses handy!" cash-gathering wagon?
You know... Everspace 2 is one hell of a rocking fun ride. And it's yours with all kinds of free goodies... just for the cost of a handful of missions from Bethesda. Bethesda. The company that makes incomplete games and waits for modders to bail them out (for free, of course!). Bethesda? I really used to like you. Now you appear to have gone the way of Ubisoft. Sigh.

No need to apologize, the game is a lemon lol.

That trackers alliance sets a very dangerous precedent for their future games. Create a barebones faction, update the game later on with a single quest and then sell the rest of the questline for an absurd price. I’m not buying creation crap since Ima just wait till it’s free.

Compared to $3 for horse armor, $7 for actual content is the deal of the century. :)
I agree that $7 is too high - but so is $7 for a cup of coffee. It's optional and there are a zillion things to do in Starfield. I can resist buying it. Sadly, for those of us that feel that way, there will be a million people that click on it because they want it, with no regard for the cost. The battle has already been lost.
It would be best to give people a way to earn a few credits in-game. Fallout 76 does this with Atoms. There are challenges in the game that pay in Atoms.
One way people can get this content without spending real dollars is to buy Xbox gift cards with MS Rewards points. It takes very little effort to earn 5000+ points per month. I've earned over a million points since they implemented MS Rewards years ago. For me, it pays for everything Xbox related with what I look at as Monopoly money. I've got enough stacked up now to buy an Xbox if I wanted.

@@CharlesVanexX I’m not sure about others, but I did not play Skyrim until the last few years while ignoring the creation club stuff. I've just been playing the game without any personal expectations or requirements for what I wanted Starfield to be. I've been enjoying this game much more than any other that I've played for a long, long time. It's definitely not going to be everyone's idea of a good time because Starfield requires planning, strategizing, thinking 5-10 steps ahead, experimenting, failing, learning and a lot of other gameplay dynamics which don't feel like action or thrills. There are plenty of in-game hours to be spent on just trying to figure something out, or tinkering with something until you finally get it just right. Lots of wishing you'd realized something earlier in your playthrough. Lots of reasons to pick up the sticks and continue exploring. Let's face reality, though: it's 2024, Americans want Wall-E world life served up on a silver platter to be enjoyed from the laziness of their mobility scooter without having to think about anything or struggle with anything. If it's not instant "RUclips heroics" material, people aren't willing to make the effort. Starfield is going to keep getting bashed by a lazy society, which fails to understand the definition of words like "play" or "game" or "contentment" or "humility" or "variety", and that lazy society will go on crying about not having whatever they want, whenever they want, even if they stomp their feet and scream.
People miss out on so much of what life actually is, because they spend all their time complaining about what they thought life was "supposed to be".

Are you at 60 hours yet? You're describing how I felt at the 20-40 hour mark. It wasn't until the 60 hour mark that I realized just how bad SF is. That game feeds on nostalgia to gaslight you. Once you know what to look for, the illusion falls apart. I didn't struggle with the difficulty, which let me focus on the story... followed by realizing how bad the story is.
I'm currently playing Fallout New Vegas. Sure, it's a dated buggy mess, but the difference in storytelling and dialogue is night and day.

    • @michaelwagner1517
      @michaelwagner1517 29 дней назад +1

@@r3dp9 I'm at around 100 hours. I have about 70 hours on my main, 20ish on a secondary build and just under 15 on an "experiment/mess around" save file. I'll agree that the storyline hasn't been enthralling, but the openness of the game has allowed me to invent my own paths between quests and even weave my own timeline into the way a quest plays out. Nothing is pushing me, or funneling me or hastening me toward the endgame. I don't feel like I'm strapped into a rollercoaster until the quest is over. There seems to be plenty of content which encourages or instructs the player to go see or do something, but there's also an unlimited amount of opportunity and space for a very personalized adventure through the Starfield.
I can understand fully why this sort of long play/slow play might not appeal to everyone which is why I'm curious about all the hate. What are the real reasons? What are the underlying causes? Is it the inevitable effect of a society that ONLY rewards the "squeaky wheel"? Is it frustration with the world's dismal future which is boiling over in the form of lashing out? Is it simply because everyone is tired of waiting for the future of gaming and we were hoping Starfield would be the breakthrough? Why do so many people seem to hate Starfield so much?

The reason Bethesda openly supports mods is not to increase the player experience, allowing mods allows them to save money at customer support, ESO is the same way if you report a bug support will sit there and tell you to remove any mods then do a clean install regardless whether you even use mods in the first place. It gives them an opt-out of the support you paid for.

Creations is a scummy way of paywalling content that should have been included as part of the DLC season pass. I hoped that the way Creations fizzled out with FO4 was a good sign that Bethesda would have realized it wasn't worth pursuing, but, no, here we go again,...and if it means a game update breaking script extender mods every month, that will really suck as it'll just deter the serious modders from investing energy in mods that are going to need monthly support to fix them.

  • @r3dp9
    @r3dp9 29 дней назад

I only enjoy Starfield content because it helps me appreciate better games. For me, that is currently:
Fallout New Vegas DLC. Sure, the game is dated, but the voice acting, dialogue, worldbuilding, role laying, and environments, are all amazing.
Prey (2014). I've replayed this one at least four times now, and I want another go. I like how it feels to move. (Sadly, SF could have scratched this same itch if it had better enemy AI, environmental design, weapon balance, proc gen, ability wheel, player movement, stealth mechanics...)
Rimworld. The Save Our Ship 2 mod is finally compatible with the latest update and DLC, so I can finally combine FTL with Rimworld.
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, Bright Nights. If there's another roguelike that lets you build your own vehicle, I haven't heard of it.
    -------------------------
SF has the following core issues, which aren't (easily) fixed, even with overhaul mods:
    1. The player has no agency in choosing quests. Quests pop up at random, stay in your log until you complete them, and don't let knew quests generate until you've completed some of your backlog. If your entire quest backlog winds up being bad quests, you are SOL.
    2. The player can not seek out POIs and quests. This is a similar issue to 1. If there's no questmarker, and no internet guide, good luck finding anything.

@@MeesterBumb so you're thinking about it the right way and that's how it will definitely be from a community contribution perspective but not quite on the Bethesda side of things which is where my issues are. So the vulture is both a quest that is part of the trackers alliance and it also rewards a gun at the end as well. This is the one that costs money and Bethesda themself confirmed that future quests for the trackers alliance will also be released through creation and therefore will cost money since the precedent has been set that they can charge 7USD out of the gates for 1 quest. This means any time they release more small content releases (trackers alliance or otherwise) it will probably be through creation at extortionate prices rather than a true dlc loke shattered space. So you get to pay 2-4x more for a full batch of content that slowly gets drip fed to you instead of a real expansion. That's where the bad is.
For community made stuff I'm super hopeful for it and those are the projects I'm more interested in supporting and if there's enough interest from modders in building for this game then we could get some awesome stuff in the future

No one is demanding anything here, my stance is simple and I stated it pretty clearly if you watch the whole video. The game is moving in a better direction giving tools for creators to enhance the game and I agree with you completely, they should be rightfully compensated for providing value. Whether it means paywalling the content outright to access it VS free with a donation based system is a matter of preference and neither is necessarily better than the other.
What I have a legimiate issue with is when Bethesda specifically releases their own drip-fed mtx content (quests especially) that has an obvious stink of something that was originally part of the base game but instead repackaged to slowly milk more cash out of players. Look at how lacking and half-baked the original release was and it feels pretty obvious that this game wasn't ready and things were held back/delayed even with an extra year of development. I have no problem paying for a fully fleshed out dlc in one go if the price makes sense but no one can convince me that a 45 minute quest + a new weapon is really worth 7 dollars and that this is what we can expect going forward. Compare what you're getting per dollar spent here VS any other respectable studio with dlc expansions and this is embarrassing. It sets a very dangerous precedent for what you can expect for realeases in the future from Bethesda and other studios that see it work. Give players fully cooked games, legimiate dlcs, and make the numbers make sense and then go make some overpriced skins and cosmetics that the whales can buy to help fill the company vault and we can all be happy :)

I enjoyed the game due to nostalgia and optimism for the first 40 hours, where it played like a normal shooter. Then I got my build and weapons figured out, and the shooting stopped being interesting. I then started wondering where all the side stories were, and spent another 20 hours thoroughly exploring sol. All I found were short unimportant quests, and dozens of dialogues hinting at all the missing content. After that, I started looking at my first 40 hours with fresh eyes, and realized how bad the dialogue and writing of ALL the quests were.
There was one, exactly one, good quest. (The parallel universe one.) There was one, exactly one likeable companion that doesn't constantly insult me. (Vasco.) In ~60 hours of gameplay.
There could be more good quests, but because sidequests are shoved in the players face randomly, instead of being static POIs that the player can seek out like in older Bethesda games, there's no way for me to find the good content.
