Man, the Diablo lore deserves to be told with such a voice. I'm so happy every time you release one of these. I wish D4 hired you to voiceover all these journals I expect to find along the way.
I've always been so interested in the lore of Diablo 2. Exactly for one of these reasons here like how did the rogues get corrupted and why you were fighting them. Where did Andariel and Duriel come from? How did the zakarum get corrupted and turn into zealots? etc. I hope you go into these details at some point in the future as well!
As with all the Great Evils, Duriel & Andariel was spawned from one of the seven heads of Tathamet. Andariel rule the Realm of Anguish while Duriel rule the Realm of Pain in Hell.
Andy and duriel are evils from the original prime evil tathomet. Tathomet split off into 7 particles, which were divided by lesser and greater evils. Andy and duriel are basically part of the 4 lesser evils, with the other lesser evils being belial and asmodan. Everyone knows the 3 other evils - diable, baal, and mephisto.
Great story telling. Can't wait for the next episode. I've been playing Diablo ever since I picked up a demo CD at Walden software nearly 26 years ago.

and what about the artifact? ... if the sightless eye was in the monastery, but demons invaded it, did akara manage to bring it out with her or remained it there? since this story retcon is not adressed ingame, there is no way to say if akara just mumbled about the lost malus but not about the lost eye cuz she had it in her tent, or cuz at the time of d2 there was no such thing yet

I could be wrong but I remember something about the lesser evils 'overthrowing' the prime evils being a part of the plan all along and that's why we see Andariel working for Diablo again in 2. I want to say it was mentioned in 2 somewhere but I can't remember the source exactly.
It was definitely part of the Prime Evils' plan. But the Lesser Evils weren't really aware of that and were legitimately trying to overthrow them. Or maybe Andariel and/or Duriel were aware of it and just played along with Belial and Azmodan. That's not something that's been revealed. Would make sense though, as it was always really Azmodan and Belial that were looking to be the new rulers of Hell, feeling like the Prime Evils were fools to obsess over trying to convert humans to cause so much (ironic since mortals seem like easy prey to be corrupted by sin and lies, but whatever), and they thought they had become complacent/incompetent (also ironic considering how pathetic the nephalem made them both look in Diablo 3). So yeah, perhaps the pain twins just pretended to go along with it after their master, Diablo, let them in on the greater plan. I hope we got some clarity on that eventually. I'm also really interested to find out: A. How Mephisto and Baal and the Lesser Evils reacted to Diablo basically duping and using them all in his failed plan to become the sole leader of Hell and destroy/corrupt Heaven himself. B. Why are Andariel and Duriel back in Sanctuary again and why are they seemingly serving Lilith? Just the D4 devs making an obvious play on nostalgia or an actual good reason?
Love this, keep going! D4 is still a bit aways, and we all know so much more now (which maybe makes ur job harder?)…. But a lore recap continuation UP TO D4 would be ****ing amazing!

I'm sad that two of my favorites absolutely step on the toes of existing classes, the demon hunter and witch doctor. Maybe they can remake them more into their own things one day
Where is part 13? The last I saw in this playlist was the story that essentially covered Diablo 1, which was part 12, and the next one that queued in this same playlist, talking about essentially the aftermath of Diablo 1, was part 14. Was there another video somewhere else that I missed?
