Omg! Glad I found you. I just applied and I’m about to do the Pmrt assessment tomorrow, I’m so nervous.😩😩 I’m also in NC so I feel like your video has helped me a lot.
I did the assessments and get called to do an interview Wednesday 9/21. The pressure is on lol Do you remember any questions they asked in your interview????
Samarcand or salemburg? I went to Samarcand. Watched several of your videos and you’re right about turnover and burnout. I lasted about 2 years. I found out case management isn’t my thing. Loved the field work and interactions.
I will be going to basic soon, I am not worried about the classroom or gun training portion of basic I am more concerned with the physical portion (I am a little out of shape) can you tell me to the best of your knowledge what does it consist of so that I may better prepare myself.
Hey, I am a college student right now and id like to be a probation officer. Once I'm out of college, what kind of training do I go to? Is it regular police academy or did you do something completely different? Thanks!
No it’s not hard at all. Your class will support you and help you with studying and the instructors are supportive too! If you are nervous about shooting I do suggestion practicing at the range before you go.
Quick question how long have you been a PO for Im in California And Looking To Move To Las Vegas Nevada Do I Have To Do Training All Over Again And Do Those Credentials Carry Over
Hi I’m looking into getting into probation or parole. I am also located in NC. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and have done research on probation and NC and it seems like there are a lot of cons for working in NC. I am originally from the west coast and will be moving back soon. I wanted to start working in NC and transfer in the future. The pay isn’t extremely important but it is important. Do you have an advice? Thank you
Hey so the pay has changed and it goes by years so I believe year one is 40k and it continues to go up. In addition, I don’t think you can transfer from one state to another but you can always find a job and reapply
I accepted my job offer as a PO in Houston this Dec. I shadow first then head off to Ausrin in late Dec. How difficult are the two tests? Do I need to start running laps now to prep for the wellness test? Do I need to practice at the gun range? How should I prepare myself for the academy?
I'm currently in school to become a parole officer. I watched your video and really liked hearing what pros and cons r of the field. I have a question what's do u wear to work? I'm a female as well and I wondered what u wear. Can u please tell me how u r to dress for this job.
I don’t work in NC but I think it just depends on the agency. I live in VA & when I interned with the Juvenile PO’s, there’s no uniform. It’s business attire. Adult PO is like that too. Every Wednesday, if I remember correctly, it’s mandatory to be dressed up in case you have to cover court hearings for another officer. In the office & only for home visits, you can wear jeans, no sneakers though. JPO’s have a jacket that says Probation on the back they wear when doing field visits. Other than that, it’s just standard business attire.
I was a probation officer in New Orleans. We went through an actual police academy. We got sprayed and tasered. 16 weeks
Oh wow! That is crazy! Is it because New Orleans has a bad crime rate?
😂

@@dayshawatts9938 Sorry I’m just now seeing this? Did you already do it?
@@dayshawatts9938 hey! I’m currently in basic training for PO in nc. You can ask any questions to me as well. Good luck!!
Are you currently a po ? If so how was the process .I’m in Nc as well ! @dayshawatts9938
I’m so happy u mentioned the basic training. Is this a room and board or is it just at a building during the day?
Room and board
Samarcand or salemburg? I went to Samarcand. Watched several of your videos and you’re right about turnover and burnout. I lasted about 2 years. I found out case management isn’t my thing. Loved the field work and interactions.
Salemburg and that’s what I realized for myself too!
Love the videos I’m considering becoming a PO. Just resigned as a CO for the past 4.5 years.
Go for it! A lot of CO’s came to probation.
I’m leaving for basic on Sunday headed to salemburg and it is 8 weeks now I’m ready to get it over with
Omg 8 weeks?! I’m sure you’ll do well though.
Yeah 8 weeks is the requirement now... What a drag.
I will be going to basic soon, I am not worried about the classroom or gun training portion of basic I am more concerned with the physical portion (I am a little out of shape) can you tell me to the best of your knowledge what does it consist of so that I may better prepare myself.
Yes. I remember us walking/running laps and doing circuit training like jumping jacks, sit ups etc. Just do what you can and you will be fine.
Yes I’m out of shape I got a gym membership just need some advice tho
I’m worried about the gun training, I have been sprayed twice already 🙄
Girl thank you for this information fr
No problem!!
Im currently at Samaracand , we get pepper sprayed next Monday 😩😭
You got this!!

I’m so nervous for training I don’t want to fail and then have no job 😢 is it really hard ? I just feel defeated about it before even going
No it’s not hard at all. Your class will support you and help you with studying and the instructors are supportive too! If you are nervous about shooting I do suggestion practicing at the range before you go.
Do you remember it impacting your breathing the spray?
No I was fine but they have EMS there just in case.
Hey im located in the New Orleans area and plan on becoming a P.O, any advice ?
Did they accept certs from other trainings for OC? I already have my OC cert from the army and would rather not do it again 😅
Yes they do!
Yes they do but it does depend on what kind of spray is used. If it’s the same or similar they will accept.
@@jasminemarecia thanks for the response!
Can you become a probation officer with just an Associate in criminal justice
A bachelors degree is needed.
Or prior military service
Did you have to get sworn in?
Yes! We had a ceremony.
And also, did you go through the police academy?
or is it a specific training for a PO
No police academy it is a PO training for only PO’s.
I wanna be a P.O. so bad but I’m skinny lol I’m trynna hit the gym.
You don’t have to be any size to be a probation officer. It’s not as bad as people think. I’m on the smaller side too.
Does this video apply to us applicants for Court Unit Juvenile Probation Officer?
Where are you located some things they do there we definitely don’t do in Texas like company car, carry gun, or go threw compact training.
NC
What does your bachelor have to be in? Does it have to be criminal Justice or can you have a bachelor in education?
Yes it can be in education and not criminal justice.
Where was your basic training? What part of NC did you have your experience?
Salemburg, NC
Hi, are you required to be pepper sprayed or is it optional if you’re just wanting the certificate ?
It’s required
Quick question how long have you been a PO for Im in California And Looking To Move To Las Vegas Nevada Do I Have To Do Training All Over Again And Do Those Credentials Carry Over
I’m not for sure about that
This was very informative, I have my interview tomorrow 2/1 for PO, and I’m praying I get it . Any pointers?
Is it in NC? It is going to be behavioral questions and most likely a panel interview.
@@jasminemarecia yes it is . And it’s virtually
@@misstay3329 expect 5 questions and to tell them what top counties you want to work in.
@@jasminemarecia thank you! I had it today. I hope I got it!
@@misstay3329 I'm sure you did! Was it 5 behavioral questions?

If you’re close enough, go to VA. Pay is better. I’m bias but you would love VA

I’m thinking about applying for Parole in Texas soon, what’s the academy like?
How long is the hiring process in Houston from start to finish?
Is there a lot of running in training ?

Btw congrats ❤
Did you get paid during the training?
Yes! We had a lot of long hours which resulted in OT.
Can we bring our cell phones? I heard that we can’t have them.
Not in the classroom but outside of class you can. I totally forgot about that lol
