I really enjoyed this review as well as another I also watched. I bought a WAGZ GPS collar system just 2 months ago (due to price) and it worked very well for me....I even ordered an extra battery 3 weeks into use since I was pleased with the product! However, I just received a notification from the company stating they were going out of business and shutting down the service. They only gave us a 24-48 hour notice, so no time to research another product. This review has helped tremendously, but as you can imagine, I am scared to spend money on another product for fear of the same thing happening!! Spot On sounds like the best choice for me with approximately 3 acres, but dang that price tag!!
I have 5 acres and the halo one and two have worked great. I had a couple of issues with the 2 giving my dog feedback for no reason but contacted them and they showed me how to calibrate it. Also simce their new update, no issues. One of my dogs is deaf and this collar has given me piece of mind, for sure. I am contemplating an upgrade to the halo 3 since the battery life is much longer and it says it's more accurate (which I've never had a problem with when it comes to tracking.)
I just saw an ad for the Halo collar and I started looking into it. This video is full of useful information! You thoroughly covered everything i was interested in. Feom how it works, to price. Thank you for the video
@@ThePamperedPup Did you have it set to 10 when it zapped you? maybe you are a good actor. I have tested dog collars in the past and found it to not be painful just surprising.
How does the SpotOn perform in wooded areas with broadleaf trees? Wooded meaning not much sunlight reaches the ground underneath the trees. Thanks in advance for your reviews (you're quite the entertainer!) and comments.
Good question! It’s supposed to be able to handle that with forest mode, which is always active after a recent update. We haven’t had a chance to test it though. Our pleasure, so glad you enjoyed them 😀
I did talk with SpotOn customer service, and they said as long as the trees were NOT EVERGREENS (which evidently messes up the satellite), the Forest Mode would enable it to work OK. She also said if we weren't satisfied, they had a 90 day return policy. Next time you're looking for something to do, I think there might be others who would be interested in a real-life test of it in the trees.
Any suggestions/opinions on which, if any, collar I should try for 2 Pyrenees/AS mix 9 month old pups? I’ve tried all the “cheaper” fence collars and they just don’t work good. I’m worried about spending this much on collars for dogs that play VERY rough and are constantly tackling each other and CHEWING/TEARING UP things.
If you try it. Comment back please. I have a great Pyrenees on 6 acres. But he doesn't think that's enough land 🙄 everyone has told me these won't work for a gp
Great video. I have a question noone else has asked: can gps fences be movable? Can the dog figure it out? - we camp a lot, and would like to be able to let our dog off-leash in a field when we're on the road. Three weeks on a leash is a challenge. Once she's trained for one boundary, if we walk a new boundary once with the dog and the device, will she be able to figure out the new one? Also, what's your experience with effectiveness with a dog with very strong hunting drive?
Yes, they are movable. If your dog is trained to understand the tones, they should be able to pick up on it. Perhaps you could walk the boundaries with them as you set it up.
Questions: if the dog is chasing something or decides to sprint past the boundary, how long do these collars deal out the static shock? Do they keep going until the battery runs out or the dog turns around?
With the SpotOn it continues for 10s then stops. With the Halo 2+ there was a little more to it. I believe it is supposed to stop correcting if the dog stops moving away from the boundary, and also if they turn around and move toward the boundary. You can see us testing the boundary logic I believe in the individual 100 day reviews for each.
How well do you think these GPS collars would work on a .59 acre lot on a cul-de-sac (pizza pie shaped with most of the property in the back yard) in a subdivision?
Surprised at the price difference. I have a need for multiple collars (3 dogs) and 50 acres to let them roam. Have you reviewed collars that might be better for my needs?
I have only personally used the first and possibly second generation of the Halo collar. I live in a rural river valley with Halo being on AT&T cellular service for collar updates. Experience with Halo has been down right terrible. Collars are not built ruggedly enough. Perhaps strong enough for lap dogs but not medium to large dogs that play hard and romp around. I had 3 collars replaced last collar stopped working and it became too tedious to find the time to deal with their customer support. I basically have to keep a vigilant eye on my dog while he's outside or look back into getting an actual hard wired underground fence installed. Whether it is Spot On or the new Halo 3, ask yourself if you are perfect about if the collar is working? That one time it's not and your pet could be hit in the road. I think this tech is bottom line too glitchy to have any piece of mind and I wouldn't recommend either.
Are the boundary/buffer zones adjustable? I have a very small property but more than the required 250 sf that Halo needs, however, I have a section of yard between our home and our neighbor that is only 15 or so feet wide but has a fence line. I assume if I opt the Halo route I may have to take and adjust that edge of the boundary line onto the neighbors property so that the dog can get the full use of this section of the yard without being warned unnecessarily?
Does being in a rural location with spotty internet service have any effect on either of these products? Also, does the size of your dog matter? If so, which would be better for a small dog (miniature Dachshund)?
Cellular and GPS signal are more important. Internet shouldn’t matter I don’t think. You could measure your pup’s neck to see if either collar is small enough, the post the sizes on the websites.
I had the halo 2 and finally gave it up. I am rural and poor gps and satellite signal and the halo just didn't work on my dogs. They are pretty expensive for not being able to use in a rural area
Can either of these collars connect to more than one phone? Like would both myself and my husband be able to track our dog on our phones separately or can they only connect to 1 user?
I will continue to use the wired system. Pain in the butt to bury wire but at $50.00 for wire and $200.00 for the system I can see my 5 hours to bury the wire as being worth saving tons of money for our .3 acre dog permiter.
@@ThePamperedPup Awesome. I tried the Halo 2 and it didn't get signal out here. Other than that I liked it. I have the spot on now. Ordered a halo 3 to try to see if it gets signal now. I like that you can manually correct the dogs on the Halo. Comes in handy on walks through the woods when they see a deer or something. Both collars randomly correct the dogs in the house unfortunately. Hopefully that's fixed on the halo 3 but I doubt it. Our metal roof doesn't play well with the collars.
Awesome, hope it works out for you! Yeah, metal roofs can be troublesome for all types of invisible fences. SpotOn has the home zones included which might help indoors, and halo the beacons.
Hello, Have you tried out the new Halo 3? I found the boundary on SpotOn to be unreliable. When I was setting it up, they even indicated that the fence can move 10-12'. No likey... I also had trouble with the set up walking my property's (1.3 ac) perimeter. When I tried to get it to connect points because I couldn't walk through. It wouldn't connect a point unless I walked a little which was impossible. I ended up doing it on the app and found it to be unreliable. Thanks! Karen
