I wouldn't mind seeing Legend play some more disaster battles on normal unit scale for the potatos. I wouldn't want to see them outnumber ones on large scale, but I wouldn't mind to see some of them.
I'd love to see all the weird tactics Legend would come up with in a livestream on the smallest unit scale.
gonna be another stagadon spam
He'd just spam what he always does. Single entities are already overpowered on ultra, on small it just increases the disparity.
@@ashisunblade That's why it'd have to be a race that would force or at least encourage him to change strategy. Maybe Dwarfs, Empire, HE, DE or Skaven.

I really wish hellcannons worked properly... on tabletop you can unchain them, and they rampage like a berzerk chariot
I'm just thinking how awesome it would be if when you unmanned a hellcannon it took off on its own charge the enemy.
Well you got it now in WH3.

I remember my very first campaign in this game was a Black Dragon 'doomstack' on small unit scale on easy difficulty. One breath attack per dragon and the enemy was basically routing already. Good old times lmao.
Someone should send a "peasant doomstack". Like 6 full armies of peasants surrounding a "not-so-great" enemy army for legend to meme

Same with Stegadons. They have a higher fire rate and just destroy everything.
Maybe leadership could be an issue for them, compared to steam tank or hell cannon

"Would be really good against dwarfs actually."
I find that very fitting, considering the Chaos Dwarfs hate their Dwarf cousins
For some of that, some cannons were blasting shattered units running instead of fresh units. Which is impressive because I manage that with just 3-4 artillery pieces sometimes, it needs 15+ to make Legend do that haha.
Yeah, he told those Hellcannons to target specific units, so they'll keep doing that until the unit is completely wiped even if a better target's literally right next to it.
It's really underestimated the difference that unit scale (graphics option) makes in a campaign.
I remember when I first started playing on my potato and couldn't work out why my results in battle were so massively different from what I saw on youtube.
Example: using a hero to tank with an archer spam army (my hero's would get killed super fast)
So that's what's happening... 🤔
Drinking game idea; drink every time Legend says "unit scale" in this video...
its 6:37 am, I can't afford to be smashed by by 6:50 am.
Pro tip: don't do this if your liver is set to small unit scale, it only works on ultra unit scale.
Sounds deadlier than the cannons!
@@GiantEnemyMudcrabz I relate to this comment. Gonna have to drink a green juice to cleanse my liver for this ordeal.
@@Buffalo9975 That how Hemingway became an American Writer and a Treasure
If i remember right, on the tabletop hellcannons were kinda funny in that they were almost as good in melee as in shooting. It was kinda goofy trap for those who thought "hey, their artillery is exposed, i can send some skirmishers to eat those cannons", and then, BAM, cannon actually ate them.
Honestly at this point I determine how good the doomstack is by how long it takes Legend to absolutely destroy the enemy
Then that Thane doomstack is GARBAGE
@@nicwolf1370 Honestly if that Thane stack didint need you to use the runesmith abilities you could just start the fight and go shopping and come back to victory screen.
I need to see a luminark doomstack in action
It doesn't feel that powerful, since all of the heroes almost died. Potion of healing seems really essential to this army. With only replenishment it doesn't feel safe enough, especially since you are Chaos, everybody hates you and it's quite likely to get attacked more than once over the end turn.
Hero tanking in small/normal is not so good but no choice otherwise, melee infantry just as bad and cant use abilities.
my favourite style of play for small/medium is still range spam with checkerboard formation on smaller unit scale
I think the heroes took a lot of damage because he wanted to use the hellcannons rather than the magic, but as he said a penumbral pendulum would have destroyed most of their archers so the heroes wouldn't have taken thay much damage
Sometimes normal unit is more tankier than single entities in normal unit scale.
honestly i only created this stack because i saw the video legend made where he only used archaeon lol
Cant you just let the heroes leave and rejoin the army to fully heal them?
I think the unit scale system is just another game mechanism, one that allows for plenty of that premium stanky cheese. If people have unique and cool ways of gaming the unit scale system then by all means, show us! Just like I may never play on legendary difficulty but love seeing how to cheese it, I would enjoy seeing new and unique strategies built around small unit scale.
I think the Vlad the Chad Legendary campaign on small unit scale by Gaming Rambles displayed enough premium cheese
Yeah, would love to see other unit scale RMD videos with the restrictions you mentioned, don't play on them myself but I think it'd be cool to see
New video of Legend premiering the new chaos dwarf army
I'm actually surprised a bit that Legend made no comment on the price of that army. It may be a stupid stack, but those hellcannons had cheaper upkeep than clanrats. That's gotta at least be noteworthy.
That's cuz they're in a horde and low supply lines so they get 70-90% upkeep reduction
With chaos it's normal that stuff gets dirt cheap in a fully upgraded horde. You can get a shaggoth doomstack completely for free if you start with kholek
@@kroxigordundee7767 You don't get upkeep reduction for having less armies. Extra armies increase the amount of upkeep but having 1 army doesn't give you 50% off with a buy 1 get one free deal. You can get 23% off on most lords via blue line and I'm probably wrong but I think Sigvald has 50% upkeep reduction on hellcannons. I can't remember what amount of upkeep reduction a tier 5 horde does.
@@amphitheremajesticon4928 I know but with big supply lines their upkeep would've been more like 1K per hellcanon that was what I meant by low supply lines

Sigvald's beautiful pink rain of doom
I actually made this in my campaign, on ultra but I always have other army to accompany it
That sounds like the way to do it. Have artillery blast your enemy while your reinforcement forms a frontal defense. Would be less boring as well.
pretty much, just need a meat shield to stall while artillery does its job
did you try manually guided shots in a siege yet? you can clense a plagued settlement from a safe distance :P

Gonna play on Large unit scale from now on, then. Ultra turns out wasn't the balanced one.
Game is balanced around Large unit scale iirc.
Yeah. That's why multiplayer battles are almost exclusively played on Large unit scale.
yea but it's fun to see firestorm wipes out army on ultra and single entity units being the elite they are on small unit scale.
Yeah I play on normal size because it seems the most realistic, even though I can probably play on large or ultra just fine
CA make their balance changes around Large unit scale. That doesn't necessarily mean that Large has the best game balance. Legend often says that he feels Ultra is where game balance is best, despite CA's intentions.
Being someone with a true potato PC, I can confirm Hellcannons are actual nightmares.
Fuckin oath
Man, if only hellcannons were monsters like they are on the TT
If I wanted to play on small unit scale I feel like I might as well just play Warcraft 3
Me: "Me and my full Mortar/Cannon pirate doomstack"
Yes i can confirm artillery is really good in small unit scale, when their AI doesnt fuck up and a few of your mortars refuse to fire because.. they are too close to other mortars?
Artillery units can be weird sometimes.

-Friendship- Chaos is magic
loool "this ones for all you potatos out in the crowd"
Spell damage does change depending on unit scale but it doesn't change the same amount as HP and model count. Ultra is the "true" scale that everything's based off of so if you go to a smaller unit scales it reduces the HP and model count of a unit's base to 75% for large, 50% for normal, and 25% for small. Spell's damage values don't follow this scaling, instead reducing their damage to 92% for large, 83% for normal, and 76% for small. Scale has no effect on spell's duration or area of effect so you can essentially wipe an entire army with one good vortex or wind spell on small unit scale.
It feels like this stat could be killed by a good monster or cavalry charge
"..for people playing on potatoes of whatever."
Me: *Looks at line of 2048 potatoes all wired up* "Yeah, those scrubs."
Definitely nice to see normal scale now and again! Normal + large are definitely the best scales. Ultra feels too clunky and small feels like a joke
Started watching you a while ago, finally tried the Norsca War mammoth doomstack. It's ridiculously OP.
I played a few champaigns on small unit scale before switching to ultra. I did it because although it took four times as much to load the battle screen and the battle itself took like for ever to finish, the battle map was at the end, filled with corpses, which game me satisfaction.
Nevertheless, some diferences I observed about ultra unit scale compared to small unit scale:
1. On ultra unit scale, artilery is OP because not if, but when the enemy AI blobs its army, one projectile can kill several units and you have four times as many. So mortars are overpowered.
2. It is actually viable to destroy towers. On small unit scale it takes 75% of the ammo of four organ guns units to destroy two towers, therefore you ignore them and you put the lord upfront to tank it while you focus on the enemy army. But on ultra it is actually viable to destroy the towers.
3. Wortex spells are not trash tier spells anymore. They do not always miss, but they can actually hit some enemy units. While the bombardment spells cease to be god tier on ultra unit scale. On small unit scale, when the enemy engages in mele, you use a bombardment to kill several units, wortex always missing or hitting several of your units.
4. Tree miscasts do not kill the caster anymore.
5. Putting points into the lord or hero's health skill, such as increasing it with 15% is no longer a waste. I remember that with Grombrindal on small unit scale I ignored that skill, considering it silly to spend points there, but on ultra it may actually work.
Some other modifiers Legend pointed out that I did not see at first:
1. Archers are indeed stronger on ultra, becuse there are more of them. So if a mammoth reaches one of them it can hold for more than 5 seconds while the others kill it.
2. Single entities are indeed weaker. While they hold for longer on ultra, on small unit scale they may win, while on ultra, although they may hold for longer, they may lose.
single entities tend to be weaker in melee but they hold up better against ranged unless the enemy has ranged units which dont suffer from ultra scale
artillery like hellcannons here, or bone giants, or other single-entity artillery pieces are *very* OP on small unit scale.
Direct Damage spells are incredibly powerful on small scale but much less so on ultra.
Just some additions to what you said.
this video is a chaos dwarf preview cheers legend
chaos needs an upgrade.
hopefully TWWH3 will bring chaos to their full potential.
I think smaller unit scale doomstacks is enjoy to wach.
The stegadon stack goes from OP on ultra unit scale to IMPOSSIBLY OP on normal unit scale
It is possible to play on large or ultra unit scale on intel hd graphics 4600, just make it use 1GB of RAM as VRAM in the bios settings. Unit scale is much more taxing on CPU than GPU.
I still remember my first vampire game on small unit scale. Isabella took out Arceon with a few spirit leaches and skeletons. Needless to say that strategy didn’t work when I switched to ultra unit scale
This army is essentially a chaos dwarves one
Now try this on small unit size.
From my experience, I don't think anything would be stronger than this doomstack, except maybe stinky Beastmen or pompous Lizardmen. Most single entities die in 3-5 hits from a Hellcannon on that size. Infantry units rout in 1-2 hits. Only thing they'll struggle at all against are cavalry.
Game feels most balanced on Very large. But fun fact, only place you will find 1:1 ratios in KV_RULES is on Ultra scale at "Normal" difficulity.
I have never even tried playing on anything lower than ultra, the one time I started a campaign on large unit scale by mistake I restarted it. But I guess a video now and then isn't too bad!
Small and Normal unit scale?
Separate series: "Rating your potato stack"
Lovely fireworks from Chaos
Despite not being on a potato. I actually switched from Ultra to Large scale as my default. The main reason was to allow maneuvering inbetween units more easily for single entity, chariots, and cavalry. Though I also feel like the balance feels a little better overall.
I feel like ultra really pushes the infantry blob which becomes ranged infantry blobs on VH battle. Which can feel monotonous when you're confined to a single strategy across all factions.
Large is the unit scale the game is balanced around, so that is accurate. IT should be the most balanced consequentially.
I played Total Warhammer on a potato laptop for ages. Hellcannons were a nightmare to deal with.
We got a hybrid of rating your doomstack and saving a disaster battle. What a bargain!
An easy fix to balance this type of unit is increasing splash damage and area of damage in higher than normal unit scale
Legend a lot of people have bad computers and watch your videos because the game takes so long to load!! Love to see this kind of video scattered in
CA really needs to fix things like this. Unit scale should also affect the unit damage / ammo. So many other things like this that seem like they would be easy to fix / implement but CA can't be botehred to do anything. The game would be so much better if things like this were looked at.
I think your criteria for when to allow a doomstack/video from small unit scale is quite good. Polls and views have showed quite clearly that most people definitely prefer Ultra (as far as I remember). As do I but I like seeing the difference from time to time, and well small unit scales has a lot of this silliness, so displaying this is kinda like a video of a nice cheese you found.
Anyway I like them if they are different so that probably mostly means unique to small unit scales and well it's often a carnage. And as the difference is just less health (and or numbers) and it's displaying a doomstack. I guess that mostly means all videos with small unit scales are shorter as the battles are over so much quicker.
Anyway I liked this video and having some silly small unit scale battles from time to time ads some variety.
Also I can't believe that they scale the unit scales so badly and most of all that it is still the same literal years after release. I don't understand how there can be so glaring "mistakes" or imbalances. Unless they think it gives another playstyle which it does, partly. But Magic, single entities and range are still by far the most impactful and strongest units on both ultra and small it just gets more ridiculously overpowered the lower you go. But then again they still patch funky stuff like oath gold cheese or other more complex, hard to find exploits.
I’d love more “Rate My Stupidstack” videos of meme armies or armies that shouldn’t work but do.
What do plagueclaw catapults do on small unit scale? I have an urge to make a shit ton of armies with almost nothing but that lol. I most likely won't. Then again, I'm a wuss and have never played on legendary.
Now THIS is content!
If single entities and magic weren´t so overpowered in this unit scales (and battles weren´t so fast), I would actually play way more normal and small unit scale. I find the micro way more satisfying with that settings.
well this was fun ahhaah legend was a bit grumpy but i still enjoyed the meme stack
With the size of the units it's like playing two different games

I like you covering a variety of unit scales.
Lightem up up lightem up up.
I always get shadow magic if I can Pit of Shades is so fucking good and can be cast on walls. The funny thing on small unit scale is that metal magic with final transmutation wipes out every fking army

the reason they are scaling like they are might be because the are trying to follow the table top
Specific doomstack sounds good.

Next up: rate my zombie doomstack
Hey Legend! I've always had an idea for a weird-stack but playing on the settings I do on my laptop, I can't really test it the way I'd like to. It's a dwarf FIRE doomstack. 2 or 3 engineers, 8 irondrakes, 4 irondrakes anti-large, 4 flame cannons!
I dunno, sounds fun, but wish someone could test this out better for me lol
the doomstack I never knew I needed
it wouldnt take twice as long cuz the unit is bigger so the cannon will hit more entities so it balances out
would still take dramatically longer because damage is spread throughout everything it hits so it does more damage if it hits fewer units, plus the units are still just as dense they just arent as spread out. Not quite twice as long but probably close. And it *would* take twice as long to deal with single entity units.
