thank you very much - I'm going to give this a go tomorrow as my sunroof keeps doing exactly what you said - try to close and it keeps going back as if it is hitting something.
I will have to give this a try. Mine had slowed down over the last 6 months or so as it closes, I thought the motor was going. It completely stopped last night. Thank you hopefully it will do the trick.... fingers crossed
@@4DIYers Thanks, it's a 2010 Ford Escape Limited with the 3.0L Duratec V6 and the GM/Ford 6-speed automatic. Pretty much fully loaded with AWD, heated leather, nav, Sync, etc. and only has 130k KMs on it. I'm hoping to maintain it well and keep it a long time!
That's a rare find! I don't think I've ever seen an Escape with leather and those 3.0L V6's are a great engine. Shouldn't have a problem getting a long life out of it, I've seen plenty with well over 300,000km.
Mine started to make a crunch sound but started to open back up when trying to close it the first time it made the sound. Gonna try this especially since it’ll save money 😅 even if I’m 5 yrs late I majorly thank you for the video 😊
hey! question, how do you like your Subaru ? im picking up a Crosstrek Sport today. how many miles are on yours? any issues, other than the sunroof closing slow?
Hey Mark's Teck. We have a 2013 Legacy. AWD. By far one the best cars we have ever owned! 155k km. Still tight and quiet. Doesnt burn oil and very good mileage for the size of car and accomodations. Great vehicle.
So I was cleaning my car and notice my sunroof track looked dirty and greasy. I was going to wipe it all dry but I’m glad I didn’t because it seems I have to have the grease there
I use a spray on dry lubricant, even WD40 makes a dry lube now, but only when it's sun roof season! Every other time lightly greasing might be best - even though it needs to be cleaned off and re-applied fairly often, any kind of oil or grease up there is a dirt magnet for road grime -
to be honest wouldn't this be more easier to clean and lubricate when it's all dissembled from the roof of the vehicle because as for mine I got a 02 Mitsubishi eclipse GT and a 02 Chrysler 300m that has problems closing but more or less it's slow closing on both of these sunroof/moonroof
4DIYers love those cars so much I’m actually thinking of getting one was it a reliable car overall? Not that it matters since I do my own work but parts get expensive very quickly.
Mine wasn't too bad. The biggest issue I had was fixing the mistakes from the shop that the previous owner had do the maintenance. Don't buy parts from the dealer, that's where it adds up fast. I'm in Canada and ordered my parts online, mostly from over the border. Use parts manufacturers which were the OEM supplier for BMW like Lemforder, Febi, Bosch, Siemans, etc. If it's your first BMW, it'll be a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. I only had North American vehicles before buying a BMW. Don't go with the cheap parts either, something like sensors will end up causing issues. I never did that, but it's a common issue in the BMW communities. Being a BMW, there's more to go wrong so yes it can add up faster. I have a Dodge Ram for a daily driver right now, only reason for the purchase is that I needed a truck. Parts can be cheaper, more room to work on it, but then again it's a lot simpler. Yet the funny part is, used puts seem to be more money than BMW parts lol. I want leather seats and they're substantially more than BMW seats, go figure. I have quite a few video repairs for the E39, should help with what to expect. As for driving, it's an underrated car. Almost perfect 50/50 weight ratio and you'll notice it, such a fun car to drive that holds it's own.
I have a G20 Infiniti, the motor on my sunroof works but as Iry to open the sunroof it retracts unevenly and eventually stops in midway and I have to grab the glass an bring it back by force. Any suggestion, thank you.
My sunroof is stuck on vent position leaving a gap open. And when I press the bottom there’s a loud continuous clicking/ gear grinding sound. So you know how I can fix this? Thank you 🙏
Mine has an issue with the weather seal sticking to the car so i have to give it a push up for the roof to go up. Can I use this product to lubricate the seal where it sticks?
The only thing seals need is a conditioner. Sounds like your sunroof either needs to be reset, the mechanism needs to be cleaned, or it needs an adjustment.
The sunroof on my car makes a cracking noise when I try to open it (tried and twice and stopped immediately bc I freaked out) it’s a pre-owned car so idk if it was ever cleaned. I had been able to open it a couple times before this happen but now it doesn’t move. I was wondering if you had an idea to what could have happened
It's pretty rare for sunroof mechanisms to be cleaned which is why many sunroofs have problems. The cracking could be something sticking, but it can also be something broken too. It could have blown a fuse it maybe jammed now, or the motor could have failed. Depending on the vehicle, there is sometimes a bypass. There will be a removable covered and you'll need a tool to manually operate the sunroof.
He highlighted the tracks in bright red; those are the main channels that need grease. And then lightly grease any pivot points, being very careful not to get any chemicals on the headliner.

While I ended up using white lithium grease for my track, the cleaning parts were exactly what I needed. Thanks!
No problem, happy I could help!

Excellent to hear, it's definitely worth it!

What about spray lubricant like silicon? I've used that for power window tracks etc
I use a spray on dry lubricant, even WD40 makes a dry lube now, but only when it's sun roof season! Every other time lightly greasing might be best - even though it needs to be cleaned off and re-applied fairly often, any kind of oil or grease up there is a dirt magnet for road grime -

Thank you!
Can I use dielectric grease on the mechanisms?
No, dielectric grease is only for electrical contacts.
I have a honda prelude 2nd generation.my sunroof not functioning.what should i checked first?

I like that 6 speed BMW 😍 looks like a 5 series
Yep, 97 540i sport, but sadly it has been sold a few years ago :( I miss that car very much.

4DIYers how is it finding parts can you find pretty much everything you need easily?
I have a G20 Infiniti, the motor on my sunroof works but as Iry to open the sunroof it retracts unevenly and eventually stops in midway and I have to grab the glass an bring it back by force. Any suggestion, thank you.
The tracks/mechanism could be dirty or there maybe broken components.
My sunroof is stuck on vent position leaving a gap open. And when I press the bottom there’s a loud continuous clicking/ gear grinding sound. So you know how I can fix this? Thank you 🙏
Sounds like something is either broken or jammed. Could try pushing down on it. If not, you’ll most likely have to take it apart.
Thank you sooo much
You're welcome!
After cleaning the sunroof , it has started making squeaking noise. Pls tell what shall I do now
Did you apply lubrication?
Thanks for this, would this be similar for a 2015 VW Passat Panoramic roof?
Should be similar. Most sunroof mechanisms operate on the same basic setup.
The sunroof on my car makes a cracking noise when I try to open it (tried and twice and stopped immediately bc I freaked out) it’s a pre-owned car so idk if it was ever cleaned. I’ve read that WD40 specialist Dry Lube is good to use. Thoughts??
thankyou!
You're welcome!
Where do buy these greases
From Caig Laboratories, here's their website caig.com
Haii how model sunroof car...
Can you use wd40 as a grease?
No, WD40 doesn't stay on the surface like a grease. It'll only work for temporary.
You don't even show where to put the grease
