@@cui8789 This was to counteract his deck of normal monsters with limited abilities and poor stats, except for the occasional BS, like Flame Swordsman and it somehow getting an attack bonus battling dinosaurs and whatnot (that he stumbled upon by accident). Honestly, his decks got more interesting when time went on, although he focused more on luck. The Yu-Gi-Oh! Meteor B. Dragon will always be immortalized due to Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories and also being the big fat beatstick that beat Proto-Ultimate Blue Eyes back in the very first movie. He also looks neat.
21:53 I think Red-Eyes Slash Dragon is meant to be a reference to Red-Eyes being equipped with Metalmorph (given its similar stats to Metal Dragon), and also in that episode he used it against Rex, he turned Red-Eyes Black Dragon into a sword which he equipped to Gearfried, a Warrior. Might be a bit of a stretch, but that's what I'm going with.
leafbladie Yeah that's most likely what they were going for. Given everything else in the set was also based on how those decks were used in the anime/manga. Slash just being the most vague since Joey did that once and the duel isn't all that memorable.
Or maybe the most obvious is actually the case. Red-Eyes Slash Dragon is the fusion of Red-Eyes B. Dragon and the only warrior type monster in the archetype, Red-Eyes Gearfried? You know, considering that Slash dragon seems to use Gearfried's armour?

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Red-Eyes. The deck is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the plays will go over a typical duelist's head. There's also Joey's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Brooklyn literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these tactics, to realize that they're not just geminis- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Red-Eyes truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the strategy in Joey's existencial catchphrase "My sister is blind", which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Joey Wheeler's genius unfolds itself on their YGOPro screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Red-Eyes tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 win points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
I did like how they kept combining red eyes with spell/trap cards from the show (mostly duelist kingdom). Time machine, makyiou, inferno fire blast. But super annoying they didn't let you use the Gemini monster from the deck, so you had to run summoned skull.
My next bet on the next Archtype Archive is Archfiends since it started with Golems to predict Toons with Ancient Toon Golem. Then Toons predicted Red Eyes with Red Eyes Toon Dragon. So with the thought of Black Skull Dragon counts as a Archfiend.
Red-Eyes has always been one of my favorite archetypes. While they may not be the most competatively viable, they're a lot of fun to play, and I love their visual aesthetic even more than Blue-Eyes'. I remember back in Summer of 2015, when I used YGOPro for the first time, I built my own 43 card Red-Eyes deck and it was pretty awesome, especially with the new support at the time.
You see red eyes is a ferocious monster with a deadly attack. there have been cases of people dying while playing/playing against red eyes decks. Even weird cards like lord of the red So in order to make the world a better placr red eyes usage has been lowered so people dont die as much
Red eyes that one archetype with badass artwork, the power of nostalgia and overall who doesn't like edgy dragon's?. Why can't this archetype be at least rouge tier?, there's always has to be that one archetype you REALLY want to take to tournaments/locals but you know you'll most likely get stomped (perhaps even laughed at ) for even using it and Red eyes is that one archetype for me and many other YGO fans :'(.
I mean theres a rougue ftk deck using the fusion, i like it a lot actually and it is one of the more consistent ftk's too but its pretty degenerate and relies on your opponent not having any hand traps lmao
I think the idea behind black stone not being a tuner is that with flare metal it means red-eyes make the black cards (xyz), and blue-eyes make the white cards (synchros).

Pretty sure Retro Dragon is an anime reference to that one time Joey stole and used Time Machine against Keith. Edit: You know, maybe if I watched the rest of the video...

"It's kind of uncanny how all the best Red-Eyes monsters are the ones that have no connection to the anime." Rata, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but Red-Eyes Slash Dragon IS an anime reference. It's because Joey primarily used warriors in the anime and his ace monster was Red-Eyes.
No, it is an anime adaptation. Look at its effect. You see how it uses a Warrior, equips the warrior, and gains 200 attack? Take a look at its armor, real quick. Now look up Sword Hunter, a Card Joey Used.
I think they went with the gemini theme because of a card named "Swing of memories". In the GX anime, that was the favorite card of the red-eyes user in this series, and there was even a plot after that.
If only Black Metal Dragon had the effect "While this card is equipped to a "Red-Eyes" monster you control by it's own effect, its name becomes "Metalmorph"." Then maybe we'd have an excuse to meme Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon at 1

Would have been a great little node.
As in having the effect of Metalmorph to gain half the ATK of whatever it battles?
Or do you just want its name to be treated as "Metalmorph" for no particular reason?
Runningon Cylinders either or man. The extra attack boost would be nice too.
the latter would give a situation where you aren't losing metalmorphs effects for the sake of 100atk
Runningon Cylinders Just so you can summon Red Eyes Black Metal Dragon with it
To be fair, Joey does a LOT of equipping throughout the show.
Arguably the most of any of the protagonists. I mean, its no *ARMED SAMURAI BEN KEI FTK* but DA GAD FATHA OV GAEMZ uses a lot of equips and pseudo equips.
Yeah much of Joey's strategy in the first season revolved around boosting his monsters stats or weakening that of his enemies.
The Equip/Gemini focus on new Red-Eyes/Joey cards would seem to stem from Phoenix Gearfreed.
R manga introduced a potentially OP card called Probability Change (that has yet to be added into the actual game) that Joey used in his deck as a failsafe against bad results.

Might be a bit of a stretch, but that's what I'm going with.
leafbladie
Yeah that's most likely what they were going for.
Lorewise it could be that red eyes got merged with Gearfried's armor when he unbound himself

So, this is basically a Red-Eyes retrain of an older meme. Only it's not a Gemini so it's actually better than the original.

Konami hates red eyes that much

I am glad you covered the original darkness metal dragon. But I did like how the anime one had the dark paladin spell negation effect.
I wish they made a retrain to black metal that could be summoned from deck/gy by using red-eyes and the lvl 1 dude
I did like how they kept combining red eyes with spell/trap cards from the show (mostly duelist kingdom). Time machine, makyiou, inferno fire blast.
But super annoying they didn't let you use the Gemini monster from the deck, so you had to run summoned skull.
that isn't even the real problem, the real problem is being limited to only the fusion summon the turn you use red-eyes fusion
They need to either errata Red Eyes Fusion to fix that or make a retrain of it..
Red Eyes deserves more love
+nightshroud86 Red-Eyes Black Fusion?

Red eyes that one archetype with badass artwork, the power of nostalgia and overall who doesn't like edgy dragon's?.
Why can't this archetype be at least rouge tier?, there's always has to be that one archetype you REALLY want to take to tournaments/locals but you know you'll most likely get stomped (perhaps even laughed at ) for even using it and Red eyes is that one archetype for me and many other YGO fans :'(.
it would of been at least so much better if black stone was a tune and also had a twin burst type fusion like how blue eyes has both
I mean theres a rougue ftk deck using the fusion, i like it a lot actually and it is one of the more consistent ftk's too but its pretty degenerate and relies on your opponent not having any hand traps lmao
I think the idea behind black stone not being a tuner is that with flare metal it means red-eyes make the black cards (xyz), and blue-eyes make the white cards (synchros).
It's funny how kaibas archetypes are basically meta/ex-meta, yugis are rogue/-ish, meanwhile Joeys barely scratches the surface of the rogue tier.
