It’s been on the market for a while now, but this is still hands down my favorite midsize sedan. Still looks sooooooo classy and elegant, even all these years later. The Mazda driving dynamics certainly don’t hurt, either. Accord, especially the 2.0T, is a very, very close second.
its better until you realize you will need to spend thousands of dollars on intake valve cleaning before 100k miles. dual injection needs to be standard going forward as i predict that di motors will PLUMMIT in resale value due to the obnoxious maintenance costs associated with direct injection-only
Good review! That’s a sharp ride inside and out. The 6 provides a very comprehensive drive in terms of its sportiness, refinement, and overall comfort/quiet cabin. There’s really not much that you don’t get with this car and for the money, you get a ton of value. For me, that’s what separates Mazda from its competition. The Accord, Camry, etc..are real good cars but they don’t feel premium quite like the Mazda 6 does and yet the brand still prices their vehicles very competitively. Mazda has really put themselves into a different category in my opinion.
I really like the Mazda 6 especially with that turbo. Wish they'd upgrade that infotainment and that atrocious backup cam. An AWD option would also be nice.
The backup cam us honestly fine. I have a cx3 and even though its low res and somewhat distorted... u can still tell what's happening and if you're gonna hit anything or not. You get to learn how to read it
Looked seriously at the Mazda6, the Accord 2.0L Touring, the Camry XSE V6, and the Ford Fusion AWD V6 almost two years ago. The Fusion's gone but the other three choices are little changed. On my score card the Accord came out #1 but with only a very slim margin over the Mazda. The SIgnature trim of the Mazda was impressive and the exterior styling was, to me, the best of all. Surprisingly, I found the tubo 4 and six speed transmission to be somewhat more sluggish than either the Accord or the Camry, an impression that was borne out by standard metrics such as 0-60 and quarter mile times. The deficits were relatively small but consistent among virtually all reviews. The Mazda handled well but its advantage over the Honda and the Toyota was almost unnoticeable. Unfortunately for Mazda, the long standing shrinking market share for midsize sedans has hit the Mazda6 far more seriously than either the Accord or the Camry. Mazda6 sales in the calendar year 2019 were down an astounding 30% to less than 22,000 units in the US. And in the wake of COVID-19, the first quarter of 2020 was even worse, down 42% from the first quarter of 2019 to only 4500 Mazda6's sold off dealer lots. Toyota sold over 77,000 Camry's and Honda (suffering from a severe sales slump) sold over 47,000 Accords. Of course, popularity may not correlate with quality and consumers who purchase a Mazda6 may not care how popular it is. But considering that Mazda's entire lineup of models (both sedans and SUV's) is in serious trouble (The Mazda CX-5 being literally the only model that isn't) the entire brand may be only a few steps away from becoming a division of Toyota.
4:10 took a turn exactly like that in the backroads of wisconsin in my 06 Grand Marquis at 70 mph.. supposedly the next gen mazda 6 will be rwd with an inline 6. imagine the capability of something like that with a mazda chassis!!
most of it is really ugly, actually lol. mostly just empty fields, and straight, awful roads full of potholes and bumps. But there are some good looking portions.
I appreciate you showing us a different, more fun road. Personally, I would not be comfortable driving there. There are houses everywhere. My roads are only open for about half a year but at least I'm not disturbing anyone at 2000m altitude.
Difficult to find them used also. A Mazda sale person said most people hold on to them so you won't find many on the market, and when they are the dealers won't budge much on them.
Some actual elevation changes and non-grid type roads must be a welcome sight ))) but the 6 just needs the 3's infotainment to be near ideal...a couple extra gears would be nice but Mazda programs the 6 speed well.
Agree about the gears. Have an 18 Signature, get 32+ mpg at 80mph. That's with 6th gear happening at 45mph! I don't have an issue with the infotainment, except that Android auto is glitchy on occasion.
I own a 2018 6 Signature with the Turbo. Can confirm this is one hell of a car for the money and class. Love the sound of the engine. doesn't sound like a typical 4 banger. Interior walks all over everything in its class and is nipping at Audi and BMW.
Love your videos! Plz plz do a review on a Mazda 3 hatchback 6 speed manual! You love manuals, would really like your take on this package! Manuals are dying, and a review from you might spark an interest in a few of us enthusiasts!
I was close to buying the 6 but decided the 3 was the better buy in my opinion. That being said if they make the 6 rwd I’ll be trading in my 3 for the 6 just to support the option. Same with a mazdaspeed 3! Then it will be a tough decision between the two again if they do both lol
Man! The Mazda 6 is the most awesome and beautiful looking fun to drive sedan, but I like it more as wagon which we don’t have as an option here in the states😞
I'm not a fan of the power at different octanes. I've heard people say it's pretty noticeable. 87 octane = 227 Hp 93 octane = 250 Hp Premium isn't cheap 💀
I own a 2018 Mazda6 Turbo. You get 310 lb-ft of torque regardless of fuel, which is what matters more in daily driving. After doing my own testing, I'd say refinement and smoother power delivery is the advantage with premium fuel. The cabin is actually quieter and idle is also noticeably smoother. Other than that, I'd say there is really no point using premium for the extra power. I stuck with premium for the refinement.
Is a two stage accelerator where it has that button. In my F30 when you mat it there's the regular travel and then theres a button. It seems at first like should engage hypderdrive but it kinda does ntg
Man these cars have come from a long way as far as its interior quality. Also it seemed the 6 had power throughout its power band no matter what speed you were going?
Always wondered why the "normal" cars in america have such a high power output. 230hp would be a performance car here in germany, you cant get regular japanese cars with over 200hp here
Because in Europe, Japanese manufacturers target the market that values economy over performance, and fuel is very expensive. It’s a pity because the turbo 2.5 Mazda engine (available here in Australia in the 6, CX-5 and CX-9 [not the CX-8 which is turbo diesel only]) is a gem
The Mazda’s got a nicer interior and exterior. The Accord is still available with a manual and its handling is incredible. I’m a fan of both but I prefer the Accord for the manual and the fantastic 2.0t engine.
