A 1974 Mazda Familia 1300 was my first automotive anything. Now, five decades later, it's clear the essence/genesis of my car (1.3L I4, bias-ply tires, low weight, excellent steering & handling, fine performance and reliability, mediocre mileage, and all) was foundational for the car you just drove. Mazda seems to be the only automaker that has retained more than a modicum of its founder's ethos and passion. How mighty BWV failed at this essential is beyond me. RIP Mazda6, long live Mazda! 🖖🙏🇨🇦
Just hit 40k in my 2019 mazda6 Signature and still averaging 29 mpg combined. I say it gets better than epa estimates. And that's in a northern state with crap fuel blends in winter months.
I love the fender flares on the Mazda 6! I’m sure this car will age better than any of its current rivals. From the other 2 cars that you mentioned I think that this one has the best pentagon grill. The G70’s is to pointy on the bottom side, and the logo on the Accura looks weird. However, as luxurious as the interior is, I think it’s starting to look a little dated especially when compared to the K5 and the Sonnata. It’s a good thing that Mazda is starting from the ground over for next generation of this car, I can’t wait for it.
Great review Kirk. Just like you loved the first gen Mazda 6. Especially the wagon and lift back versions. You should do a review on one or both of those if you can still find them.
Love my 2016 Mazda 6! So sad to see it discontinued! 70k miles and not a single problem! I love the lines of the exterior and the simplicity of the interior. Very under rated sedan! Pls bring it back Mazda!!!
The Mazda 6 is a beautiful car inside and out with respectable performance. The ride feels a little choppy and after sitting in a Camry and Accord also feels tight inside. Interestingly enough owner loyalty seems low though.
Had to get rid of my 2021 Mazda 6 turbo after reports that they replaced the valve guide seals with the wrong part and the engine burned oil before I reached 10,000 miles.
Handsome exterior design to me. But the Start button is an eyesore. Bad rear camera. Non touch screen. Largest Mazda dealer here in Austin has 9 on their website, including 2 Carbon Editions. Face it, the Mid Size Sedan category is brutal. Accord vs Camry vs ???. Crossover Wars down here. Kirk goes 'On Throttle' in the rain.
I think it’s sad that it’s going to rest because Consumer Reports gives it such good reviews. I personally don’t understand why people like SUVs so much. I had a 2004 Mazda3 right after I graduated high school and that was a great car as well. I prefer cars over SUVs because the center of gravity is much lower on cars and they’re much more stable on the road than SUVs. The main reasons why SUVs became popular in the US was due to tax loopholes because they’d be classified as “trucks“ and they wouldn’t be subject to gas guzzling taxes if they were cars.
It's why I'm SO obsessed with it. I'm about to turn in a 2018 Jaguar XF lease and I'm at a loss as to what to do. No other car is as curvy or has gives as good a 3/4 front angle stance as the 6 and the XF. That grill, the scowly headlights, the second level of chrome on the bumper, almost twins.
