Now since EasyEquities introduced their monthly Thrive fees, I like many others have been searching for an alternative that is safe, easy to use and most importantly doesn't charge any monthly fees. And so in today's video, I'm going to take you through a great alternative called Brokstock that I'm going to be trying out. But not only that, it has zero monthly fees, and they are currently offering R100 for free for anybody who signs up for their platform and deposits R500 or more. On another note do you know how long for the bonus to reflect ?
So I actually emailed the company yesterday, telling them this was coming out today and to ensure the R100 is allocated asap. As that's what people would want 😊 they assured me this would be allocated promptly. I would think if you don't receive it in a day let me know and I can follow up for you. But hopefully within that time 😊
I'd like to know if the shares on Brokstock are actual shares or if they're CFDs

It definitely seems to be that way 😄. Because it's totally possible to run a great platform without monthly fees. So the competitors are offering some great deals and bonuses now to bring people over, which is really worth it in my opinion 😊

Just received a call about fractional shares on ETF, they are saying they'll return the monies I can hold only a share not a fractional on ETF's.

The speed at which your documents were "verified" screams "No real verification at all" or at best delayed background check.
It's quite interesting, these days there are some really nice digital ways to verify with technology. Same with Tyme Bank, where you can sign up for a bank account in 5 minutes at a Pick n Pay. I think gone are the days of papers and multiple day checks.

Eventually all brokers will charge monthly fees. When starting out they don't charge per month in order to attract as many clients. This broker will also sing a different tune once it gains momentum.
So I did see on their site they made of a promise of never charging monthly fees. And the thing is, across the UK (Freetrade) and USA (Robinhood) and many others... Free monthly trading platforms are all over the world and very successful. It's very possible to do, and they are the most successful. I personally feel EE did it to boost their profits at Purple Group, at the expense of alienating their customers. But I guess the future will tell :)
Also, BCS markets, the parent company of Brokstock, had been in existence for 25 years, no broker fees still.

That is a very good question. When i last transferred from FNB Stock Brokers to EE there was no CGT, because it was simply transferring an already existing asset to another broker (not selling and reinvesting). And I imagine it would be the same. But for now I will be investing both sides, and if I transfer over I will let you know on the channel the process :)

Very informative video. I'm new to stock trading and just have a question with regards to a section in the Brokstock fees page. What does this mean:
"For buy positions: Please consider the following calculations: Swap Long is -5.97% per annum (this is the rate you will pay on long positions), so if you are in long for AAA (worth R1,000) you will be charged a fee of 1,000 x 5.97% / 365 for each day you hold this position."
Does this mean if I buy stocks I will pay a fee on the stocks I hold daily?

Hey there. Thanks for the video. Great info, however you didn't mention anything about the platform is CFDs??? THIS IS EXTREAMLY DANGEROUS especially for people who do not understands what CFDs, rolled over fees, Margin and Leverage etc are. This is like a trading platform totally defferent to long term investing (easyequities). This platform allows buy & sell. Please correct me if im wrong or mis understanding something. I like your videos. Keep up good work!
Hey there :) So yes, Brokstock provides the opportunity to invest in shares through CFDs, but they actually purchase actual shares on the stock exchange for each holding. This allows users to invest in fractional shares through CFD's, which cannot be attained with actual shares. If you take a look on the EasyEquities website, they do the same for their fractional shares. It also helps to minimize costs, but importantly still distributes dividends similar to the functionality of actual shares. As part of their license with the FSCA, it's fully transparent with all of this.
As for the margin trading, this is only activated separately if anyone specifically wants to. So there is no leverage or risks in the normal investing mode :)
Brokstock is looking to provide the ability for full shares from the world's major stock exchanges in America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond at the beginning of next year. Which is quite cool.

The normal investing mode is the default, so only if you actively changed it would it change 😊 Otherwise just normal investing.

You would need to verify your identity. I'm not sure what you do have, but if you have a passport or old ID book that will work too 😊

Kindly can I ask if you know why Brockstock shows dividends received on SA shares CFD’s only and not US? What happens to the dividends earned on with US share CFD’s? Not sure where to research this
I am having issues with my sign up. I signed up and it said the docs needed to be verified. Now every time I open the app it keeps asking for confirmation of address. It seems stuck on that step now.

You don't have to pay tax or submit a tax return to SARS in order to buy shares 😊. The buying part is free of tax 😊

Yes that's right, their Clarity. I read that they would look to release it at some point during next year in 2024. Not sure when exactly it will launch, or what it will look like yet. But very interesting. Glad to see some good platforms competing with EE.
It'll be better for us end users if there are more platforms. I just hope you'll try including some companies we students can learn about too. Sse is my favorite offshore rn so thanks for that but I'd still like more videos on your journey and tricks you learnt. The experiment I've been doing is investing a small portion daily rather than a larger amount monthly. You should try that if you got the time
That is a such a great comment. I'm really enjoying SSE as well 😊 And that method is brilliant, investing small amounts daily. I know some big investors overseas that use that method as well and they've done quite well.
And no problem, especially in December I'll be doing a lot of those as I recap my investing year 😊

In general I think TFSA does put certain restrictions on your investing and what you can invest in. But it is a good way to save tax yes 😊

Well I have had a very good time with it. The platform is very good, the investing is quite easy and everything has worked quite well. What I like about the Brokstock team is they are so helpful and responsive. They will give you a call and talk through everything with you.
Maybe give it a try, you can get the R100 bonus from the link and see if it's something you might consider instead of EE 😊 but ive enjoyed it so far!
