Oh absolutely! Unfortunately or fortunately I learned this when my daughter was born with down syndrome 31 years ago. I am still working through different stages of grieving as she has grown into a young woman. This was completely new to me but I was so grateful for this training as a parent. At each stage of life there are new things and situations which represent loss of which I was never even aware. I realize that this is the process of life in addition to the joy and love that hopefully we also experience.

Telepathy hi, my husbands family history is all dementia from the age of 60 which is where he is at 69 and a formal diagnosis at 67 but I know something was wrong 5 years ago. I can’t seem to harness my frustration and anger which in turn makes me feel really shitty but I am angry and I am frustrated that my love is going through this and that we can’t have the retirement we had planned. I am having so man6 issues dealing with this. You help me understand where he’s at but it doesn’t help me cope with it.

As someone with a loved one just beginning dementia care , I can tell you that my grief is compounded by trying to learn how to navigate within the "systems" as my parent is moving away from me emotionally and mentally. Grief is delayed in part because there are so many things demanding your attention that you can't stop to go through the process of grieving what is being lost. Not only the person, but in most cases your family's financial stability and family home when you have to turn to Medicare to support care.
