    What sold me on Sherpa, no silicone for the bolts

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Год назад +1

      Yeah lol that’s what I was trying to say when I kept trying to think of the name. No need for silicone on these. No leaks in heavy rain or snow.

    Sherpa is the best! I’ve had my Crestone on my 4Runner for almost 2 years now. Never had a single problem. Plus the people who work there are great!

    Had my Sherpa on my Tacoma for about a year. 6 overland trips so far with about 300lbs loaded on the rack with zero issues. I am 200lbs and walk on it to tie down my gear and it doesn’t budge. This is a very rock solid rack system.

    I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. $1200 for the roof rack, $375 for the window panel, $60 for a 2 gallon Roto Pax water container and $50 for the Roto Pax mounting plate. $485 + tax and shipping to carry a couple gallons of water doesn't seem very economical.

    • @thebugbang
      @thebugbang Год назад +1

      Thats one way to think..
      Or.. think of the roof rack and the window panel as a base system for you to be able to mount anything..
      On the window panel, you can every carry spare gas, or some gear
      On the roof rack, you can pretty much carry anything.. storage boxes, bikes, tent, a Christmas tree, stuff from Home Depot,…

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Год назад +1

      Yeah there’s so many things you can mount to it. But yeah could be useless for some people. For me it made a huge difference having water on the side like that.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Год назад

      True I think I went through that part too quickly. Gas and all sorts of stuff on the side.

      They also just released a sport version the other day. Don’t know much about it, but it looks like it’s lighter and cheaper but not sure it’s function in the market.

    I had a GOBI clone and switch to a Sherpa Princeton on my 4th gen several years ago. It is a much better rack all the way around.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah it’s a much more substantial rack that Gobi or I’m assuming it’s clones

    It is nuts that the rack went up $300 since the time you made this video. But... as long as we don't have mean tweets, nothing else matters.

    I agree that Sherpa is currently the best roof rack on the market I’ve just purchased one but my friend’s roof rack has been in use for over two years without any issues. The quality is indisputably good.

    Ill never not have a full rack on SUV again. A few months ago i finally got a rack installed on my Patrol. I was able to move my traction boards, shovel, and all my recovery gear in a box on top. We camp a lot in the desert here in Qatar and i also got a waterproof duffel that straps to the roof that holds all of our sleeping bags and pads for my family of 4. So now basically i just have my fishing and cooking gear and tent inside the vehicle. Which is really nice bc i have 2 kids in car seats so the backseat is basically useless for storage

    I just got the Crestone, during the first big rain we got I had a lot of water in the driver side rear where the jack is, the only reason I knew was because I had the jack door off, so not sure if the other mounting areas leaked, really bummed and not sure what to do, my only thought is that I may have tighten the mounting bolts too much?

      Reach out to their IG or call them and ask. I never had that on mine and I switched to a different rack on my new truck so I have no way of getting to them directly.

    Does your RTT lay flat on the crossbars? My fiberglass RTT will extend 2 inches over the roof rails, will it still be able to lay flat? My RTT has a channel built in the bottom and has brackets that attach to the crossbars.

    I want to ask because I'm considering removing my roof rack and replace it with the outgear solutions low profile bars. Did you think that they could hold your ikamper well? Thanks

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Год назад

      Yeah it held the ikamper well. It did rub a small line of paint off my roof though. It’s so low profile it touched the roof in about a 1-2 inch spot in the front load bar.

      I don’t have a garage but I’d imagine no. I used to have a GFC which was the lowest at the time and I still didn’t fit in standard home garages.

    Is there any reason to get this over the Prinsu rack? I've been doing research and it seems like the two of them are similar in weight, but the Sherpa is only rated for 300 dynamic/ 700 static whereas the Prinsu is 600 dynamic/ 1000 static.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  7 месяцев назад +1

      They are pretty close/similar. The prinsu is a bigger company so realistically is you want to buy from a smaller company from Colorado then go with this, but Prinsu is based out of Idaho and not much bigger. I think Sherpa has more accessories but Prinsu is good too. CBI owns Prinsu and I’m working with CBI this year so to me it’s 6:1 half dozen the other.

    Do they have a fairing for when the lights aren't in use? I love the Sherpa, but I really like Westcott Designs' fairing integration and platform panels also...gonna be a tough decision.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Год назад

      Yeah that’s what I currently have now on my set up. It’s a wind fairing and the rack. No noise and looks great. They also make a wind fairing that can mount a light bar up there.
