    My notes for this video:
    1. Body armor: Lo-pro bumper or full-size hybrid. Winch.
    2. Roof Tent: Tepui, any light hardshell (Superlite), Smittybilt Overlander XL.
    3. Roof Rack: Uptop Bravo or Alpha, Prinsu. Bed Racks: Uptop Alpha, Cali Raised.
    4. More Armor... Rock Sliders: RSG (angled, no plate, no kickout), CBI.
    Skid Plates: CBI, RCI.
    5. Tires: BFG KO2 285/70/17, Falcon Wildpeak A/T 275/70/17.
    Bonus: Air compressor (Smittybilt 2781), recovery gear (shackles, traction boards).

  • @OverlandEngineer
    @OverlandEngineer 3 года назад +1

    Also correct me if I am wrong but the stock TRD skids are 1/4" aluminum. I have heard if you can get 1/2" aluminum skids they are just as strong as steel. Obviously just more expensive but if you are super concerned about strength and so you are leaning toward steel but hate rust, maybe look for those! I have not done the math but I believe 1/2" aluminum skids are still lighter than an equivalent strength steel thickness.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +2

      Yeah the aluminum is much more substantial in the after market, maybe it is just as strong as the steel because I honestly have done the math. That would be a cool video doing the tinsel strength of different offroad mods lol. I think most of the “overland” style bumpers are aluminum so I think that’s probably a good route to go.

    I am actually getting RSG sliders as my first major mod (bought them before my T4R) angled slider w/kick out and top plate. In Hawai’i they were over $1200 thanks to the shipping costs.
    Here in Honolulu I don’t think we have the same kind of rock crawling as Colorado so I’m more going for light weight parts, aluminum skids and bumpers.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +1

      Damn that’s wild! I mean it’ll at worst case be a great step if you don’t slam the sliders much but even though I only hit them maybe 1 time every other month I still like having that knowing I’m not ruining my rocker panel.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад

      But yeah I think going aluminum is the way to go for that kind of stuff out your way. The culture out there seems so different with the Toyota culture. Seems pretty popular to go 6 inch lift on 4Runners and Tacomas where as we go 3 inch. But I’m sure not everyone.

  • @trailrunnah8886
    @trailrunnah8886 3 года назад +1

    My first mod shortly after I got my 4Runner was a set of RSG angled sliders with kick outs and no top plate, haha. I love them, they look great and the kick-outs make a handy step for rear seat or roof access.
    If it's like only an extra hundred bucks to get them powder-coated, I would definitely recommend that route. I got mine unpainted, spent about 50 bucks on painting supplies and almost a whole weekend getting them prepped and painted correctly. Not to mention I had to wait a while to install them, because I needed to wait for good weather to do that painting outside.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +1

      Yeah thats a good point, I feel the same about painting them because now every time I slam my sliders I end up hitting it with a rattle can even though I paid a ton for a powder coat. It's really not a big noticeable difference in my opinion.

    • @trailrunnah8886
      @trailrunnah8886 3 года назад

      @@OXFOOT yeah, I took my time and actually got a really nice finish with the spray paint, and I have no worries about touching them up later if I need to. It was just such a hassle to do it, I would rather have just spent the extra hundred bucks to not have to deal with it. Lesson learned. I checked with the local powder coater, would have been almost $400 to have the pair done after the fact. In retrospect, the extra $100 upcharge for PC from RSG would have been a bargain.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +2

      Yeah honestly my old 4Runner doesn’t have that sensor and not many people I know have them so I guess I forgot about it and overlooked it. Most of the companies now will say if it does or not. The C4 bumper does say in their site that if you get the full height bull bar or no bull bar you would be fine. I have the mid height and they claim that it will affect the sensor. As far as the others go I’m not sure but they might have it listed on their website?

    What ladder would you run with an Uptop Bravo rack? Does the Gobi ladder work with the bravo rack?

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  2 года назад

      Pretty much any ladder should work as the ladder sits in the hatch and needs to open and clear the rack in order to be a useful ladder, and the uptop bravo is way more low profile than the gobi rack so you would likely be able to clear the gobi ladder no problem. I have the C4 ladder and have seen people using that ladder with the Bravo. Wescott designs also has a great one. The hobo ladder you’ll have to wait a long time for so if you can wait then do that.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад +1

      So since you have the 2021 you have the sensor that I don’t have. You can only get the full height bull bar or no bull bar. I have the mid height which messes up your sensors. The hawse plate you’ll need to get. I have a 30” cut out for my light bar with an extreme LED light but I’m not sure if it’s the one they offer, I just picked my own. And the last option is the winch... I’d just go buy a smittybilt 9500 on amazon and add that. The ones they offer are really expensive.

    It looked like you mounted your spare 285 tire in the stock location? Does that affect ground clearance at all? And are there any precautions one should take to protect that tire from trail damage?

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад

      I’ve had the stock spare on there for about two years now and I haven’t had any issues. It’s a tight fit but it’s doable. The tire doesn’t cause too much difference in ground clearance that I’ve seen but I’m sure that it may hang slightly wider which would make it stick out slightly further when the tail end is low and the front end is way up. But I haven’t hit it personally and I’ve done some pretty difficult trails.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад

      I guess if you had an onboard compressor like I do you could technically keep the spare at like 20 psi and then if you need it you can inflate it back up when you put it on. I’m not sure what other protection you could do to prevent it from getting damaged. Other than that just take lines different if you are worried about hitting it.

      According to C4 on the lo pro bumper (in the thumbnail, aka mine) does not block the sensor if you get the FULL HEIGHT bull bar or no bull bar at all. The mid height bull bar will 100% block the sensor.

    Those tires you recommended for the ko2s were for the stock rims and no lift right?

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад

      So if you have stock wheels and no lift you can either do a 265/70/17 or a 275/70/17. If you have a 3” lift you can do 285/70/17, 295/70/17, 285/75/17, and you can go bigger than those but you start getting into some serious cutting and hammering.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад

      There’s also some random sizes in between all of those but it’s best to go with a more common tire size because they are cheaper typically.

    • @OXFOOT

      They may rub at fully flex if you still have that small mud flap on the back of the front wheel well but if you remove that then you’d have to have it really badly aligned for it to rub.

    What do you mean by rattle canning?

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад

      Rattle caning just means taking a spray paint can of some sort either regular rustoleum or truck bed liner. It’s typically the same thing as spray painting something but usually implies something a little more high quality.

    • @OXFOOT

      I mean the X3 can probably do some of the easier trails closer to Denver. I’m unaware of any people I know running an X3 but I can’t imagine they are too bad with 4WD or at least AWD. I think eventually switching to either a taco, 4Runner, Xterra or something like that might be good if you get into a little more heavier offroading, but I think in this market it might be worth it to see how capable your current vehicle is.

    I'm a taco owner. I've had several in my driveway through the years. I was disappointed the way you started your infomercial. You got this bad ass 4runner, all set up and everything and your disclaimer for being indoors is that it's snowing. Don't be all scared and everything you got a 4runner.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  3 года назад

      Yeah normally I wouldn’t have stayed in for snow. I camp in the snow all the time, however it was 2.5 feet of snow at the time and they were calling for 5ft of snow that day, lol. It was just a mess outside and my camera isn’t completely waterproof. It was a record setting snow that week and I wanted to film so I shot inside.
      I get it though, it makes me seem like I’m not about that life, but I can assure you as a lifelong snowboarder I’m really about that life ha.
