My 1st electric was a Danelectro, the toilex on the side, the lipstick pups, & mine came with the small amp inside the case! How cool was that? My Mom purchased it from a music store here in our town (not the one I would have picked, but hey) & paid $35 for it, case & all. Course I 'think' she bought some lessons at the same time. Find a 60's one for that now brother! All I wanted to do is play my Led Zepp 3 album, & pick out peices and learn em! My Mom on the other hand thought this was all NOISE! So that didn't last long....she got her $35 back, & that was that, until I saved up to get my own; then she was stuck with me playing loud noises!

  • @timwhite5562

I did a "Nashville Tele," type wiring on one of my Strats. I swapped the 5 way switch for a 4: neck- neck & bridge- bridge-
Neck & bridge in series. I wired a master tone and replaced the second for a blender for the middle pickup. It goes mid p/u to blender, and blender directly out to the Jack. So it doesn't run through switching/volume or tone. So I can blend it with the neck or bridge, it has more output and top end and doesn't have to rely on how the other pickups are doing. The only drawback is if you use the middle pickup on its own, you won't be able to do it.

I haven’t seen any one say this so I’ll say it. The part in the vid where Robert doesn’t know what the push pull does on that one guitar. He was on the neck pickup and pulled it out played and pushed it in an played and it didn’t sound different. I think he has to be on the bridge pickup for it to do anything. Take the humbucker to split single coil. I think he knows this but was just over looking it.

It IS a tremolo arm, because it’s on a Fender Strat and Leo Fender called his Strat bridges “tremolos”, even though it’s the wrong terminology musically. Some people say that Leo named this wrong (and the “vibrato” effect in his amps, which is really tremolo of course) on purpose, which may be true, as people are still talking about it more than 60 years later and still giving his products free publicity (which they don’t really need now, but certainly did when he was starting out). 😜

I bought a Tobacco burst 77 les Paul custom in either 85 to 86. Beautiful guitar. Think it was my second or third guitar in life. It was $600 used obviously. I found many years later I wasn’t fond of the low flat frets that always made me feel like I was going to loose grip on the strings when doing bends and have been into jumbo frets since. I saw yours and was like woah. Looks just like mine. Wasn’t surprised you said it was a 70 model.

I can hear various sonic differences between the guitars, but overall they sound very similar in your hands. Very chunky and sustainy. That suggests that this is the tone that inspires you and it's largely YOU and how you tweak each guitar and/or the effects and/or amps you're using. In any case, they all sound fantastic in the hands of a quality player like you.

I had a CE24 that I bought new, sometime around '97-'98. I liked it' okay. I had two main issues with it. For my relatively small hands, even the wide-thin neck was wider than I preferred.
The other issue, and my main complaint was that 5-way rotary switch. Drove me nuts. It was only a few years later that the mod to replace the switch with a 3-way toggle + push-pull pot was becoming widespread. By then, I had already offloaded it.
Back then, they were still doing the set-in knobs which was such a better look. I'm thankful that I still have my 2000 Singlecut. Amazing guitar (beautiful quilt top too).

I'm not sure if you've ever heard Dean Delray interview Grover Jackson in his first (and second) episodes of "The Grail" podcast. If you love Grover, you should most definitely check out these episodes.

Awesome collection! I like the ‘63 strat best by far! The PRS CE is ok but you should really try a McCarty (not a 594), SC245 or DGT.

Robert, do you keep your guitars clean?? Everyone I've seen, they seem nice and extra polished.. I wipe mine down after each one I play, but that's just me.

I really love that Acacia. I think it's my fav of all your goodies. But maybe it's the blend of instrument and pickups.

      # mighty fine! I would like to add, i cant agree with something you said more. I told it to my kids 100 times. If you like a certain guitar or wrote a song. If it sounds good, feels good, it is good. Nomatter how much it costs or how fancy it is or what the hype is. Be true to yourself, the only time you should go with the popular opinion, is if its your opinion. Because if it doesnt feel good and sound good, it isnt good. Thanks again man some great guitars, theres no absolute favorite for me. Many are very cool.
