This is the first song I wrote in 2014, and if I'm honest it was a real struggle from day 1. But here it is finished and out there for all you guys and gals to see and here. I'm pretty pleased with the drum and bass tones as well as the colour grade :) Anyway, enjoy!!!

I've been listening to this song for probably the last 4 years or so and it still never gets old. Bad ass.
Thanks! :)
This is one of the sickest things I have ever heard.
Thanks! :)
+Jonathan Seaver try conquering dystopia
Still fucking awesome after 200000 times
favorite song of yours, the clean tapping section mixed with the heavy rythm part is just perfection. This is very inspiring, would you consider doing a video about songwriting? Unless you have already, I'm new here :)
I'm pretty sure, it just comes from within, like, there's no formula-type-of-thing.
Man that taping was just beautiful especially with the heaviness of the guitar in the background
+luzanime_edits Thanks! :)
I've had that first riff lodged in my head for years and today it finally dawned on me that it was you! Lovely work, your originals really got me to enjoy extended range guitar music more all those years ago.
Pete you have got to be one of the best guitarist I have ever seen. I watch your videos all the time & the music you play is what I crave to play in front of thousands of fans. I wish I was half as good as you.
Two years since it has been uploaded. Listened to it almost everyday. This guy is a beast. Pete, sir greetings from India! And keep up the good stuff! :)
Fantastic songwriting; it actually GOES PLACES. So many metal virtuosos forget about dynamic contrast.
Amazing! Your style and sound embody EVERYTHING I love in music. Legendary riffing. If I had half your talent when I played, I would never have given it up. You are officially my favorite channel, and certainly the best 7, 8, and 9 stringer I have ever seen. And you're not a total dick. Keep on shredding brother!!!
Came here expecting Monuments... and this is just as good.
i dont even listen to the radio anymore. Pete your an inspiration, im trying to learn all over again and having fun doing it.
Thanks! :)
Love that chord change in the bridge after the tapping section!
Got this thing on repeat the whole day, just can't get enough...
+Avenger556fmj Awesome! :)
what i like about your song is that you always bring a tasty rift at one point
How can anyone dislike this video, this guitar playing is great keep the awesome instrumentals coming
Yeah it's awesome, that's why only 8 moms disliked it
repetitive no top line

Incredible No words, God
PETE!! You are a very Talented person!!! Thanks for beautiul music!!!!
Absolutely love this song Pete. You've been inspiring me to learn some tap method - thanks! It's been a while since I've been inspired to create new music. :)
Chris Hildreth Awesome Chris! Keep on rockin'. A good tip I've found for tapping is to practice legato too, it helps build finger strength :)
So nice to hear something in this day and age with some melody! Breath of fresh air.
been listening to you for about 3 or 4 years now, maybe longer. I love your songs man, you are a great composer. love your style brother! I let everyone I know hear your jams and your gaining a lot of fans hear in South Carolina!
This song is amazing! I've probably listened to it about 30 times in the last 2 days whenever I could get the time to do so. Just great zoning out music, absolutely beautiful and aggressive at the same time. Keep it up Pete!
Patrick Dye Many thanks Patrick! :)
Magnifique, bravo !!!
Great stuff Pete. I will be keeping an ear out for you.
Ich liebe deine Music.
INCREDIBLE. You are a guitar genius...a pure inspiration to all other guitarists. You find a perfect balance between technicality and melody. I hope you never stop creating music and that you will have a lot of success through your music because you truly deserve it.
G-T-R Pantellica Thanks! :)
Really nice change up Pete. I think you knocked it out of the park on this one
Mancrash riffs and song!Awesome!

+Andreas Droussiotis Thanks! :)
+Pete Cottrell A quick question!! did you record a d.i signal and then reamp it using jamup pro? or did you record the song directly?!! your tone is amazing. Thank you
Camera perspective like it's an old italian movie, but I like it!
I just admire your work! Nice Job, man!
Thanks David! :)
This song is beyond beautiful, man! How do you manage to get such a sweet sound with so much sustain out of the clean tapping?
So nice play!!
Its cool!!
Again, you surprise me with awesome riffing and great song progression.
Keep it up!
Thanks :)
Who could possibly dislike this? That was awesome
Thanks Matt!!! :)
This is as a drummer awesome to play with as inspiration.
Relaxing, yet heavy. Great song to lull yourself to sleep to. I'm loving the 8 string stuff. Please, keep it coming. :D
Thanks!!! Might take a little break from the 8 string in the next couple of vids, but I can never put it down for too long so it will be back :)

OMFG! NICE JOB, BRO!
I like your videos Pete, keep it up
Bad ass stuff!
Do you program all the other instruments or are you in a band?
I'm having trouble finding people to make a band with and have decided to just record myself playing and program the rest or hire people to play the other instruments. I guess what I'm trying to get to is how do you go about making these videos? What equipment do you use?
Matthew Farmer Thanks! All the drums are programmed using Superior Drummer 2 and The Metal Foundry SDX. The rest is all played by me. I use Cubase 6 to record and mix and Adobe Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC to edit the video. The camera I use is a Canon 60D :)
Pete Cottrell Are you recording directly through your interface or using a mic into an amp?
Matthew Farmer Directly into the interface with JamUp or plugins :)
Pete Cottrell Is JamUp Apple only?
Matthew Farmer Yes, but theres a desktop version of Bias coming soon which I think is available for windows too :)
oh i love it! :)
DUDE THE TAPPING? NOT ONLY ARE U A MASTER METAL MAN, YOU HAVE BEAUTY IN U SIR! love it.

incredible smooth tapping ^.^ LIKE HAAAARRRRDDD!!!!
Thanks! :)
Really cool sound man!
francishred666 Thanks! :)
Absolutely sick brother! You have some major skill! You've got yourself another subscriber👍
By the way, love your work with Rob Scallion on Progressive Metal Town, USA. You guys should just make a band lol seems like you can vibe and collaborate well.
- Joel
Amazing work dude.
Many thanks!!! :)
I didn't see any note lower than B, did you compose this on a 7 string guitar?
Good tune anyway!
ChristianIce Thanks, The verse and the chorus both use the open 8th string. I only used the full range if I thought it sounded good. It's pretty easy to riff on the open F and have every song in the same key so I tried something different :)
Pete Cottrell
Jeez, I missed that, you're too fast :)
Thanks! :)
Really Heavy But Musical! Def wanting an 8 string for those kind of purposes. Great job, man!! :)
Thanks! :)
Damn I love this. And I usually hate 8 strings. Some damn good talent brother. Damn good
This reminds me of Periphery songs. Good job and keep on rocking!
Thanks! :)
That was awesome as always, Pete. You've earned yourself a subscriber! ;D
Btw, what model Ibanez 7 string you play with on your Jam Up Pro XT video?
It looks sick!
Thanks Alex. That's a J Custom RG8327 :)
Sweet, thanks, dude! :D
I second that :D
Man! great stuff! Really need to get myself an 8-string now.. keep on rocking! \m/
nicolai nielsen Thanks! Do it! :)
Still awesome in 2018 dude! :) I enjoy just jammin the bass line to this! :)
Wow, I love that tapping lick, so dreamy, tap slides always sound good. See here ; Guitar Ballad
you arent the only one who knows a few tricks my friend! haha, i consider you 8 string chugging lord though, and tap genius
The part starting at 2:38 is so amazing! Nice work bro! \m/
Thanks dude! :)
Ho..hooo!! Super love from India
keep doing your thing man. thanks for sharing your music. 'oils the gears'
Will do, Thanks for watching :)
Around 2:00 that sounds beautiful Pete, always nice to see talent. And of course the rest of the sound is amazing. I personally never thought of increasing the gain so I could finger play like that. Well done Sir.
Thanks :)
wow excelent job man. shared and liked.
Many Thanks Rodrigo! :)
wow amazing man!
Nico Gurrado Thanks Nico! :)
those tapping parts sound awesome dude!
Thanks! They're really hard to play :)
yea you make it look so smooth, i sat down to fiddle with that on my 8 string, i need to do some more exercises for my fingers to make it sound smoother, also gave me some nice ideas!
wow that was great, i especially like everything after the clean part =D
Many Thanks! :)
Pete Cottrell many thanks to you!
i have learned SO much from your songs, one of my favourite guitarists is andy james and i love his style of soloing, but i have always struggled with rythm writing, and i have noticed some of the things you play may be simple, but how you do them... just sounds so good, and i am trying to get the hang of making simple things awesome (not that everything you play is simple, i just love those parts). so thank YOU :)
LongLive Tremonti I like simple stuff. I like playing fast and technical but sometimes a song doesn't need that. This song I tried to use more chord based stuff and to avoid chugging on the open strings. Learning old school Metallica tunes always helps with rhythm, Always! So that would be my tip for that. Thanks again and Andy James is Wicked!!! :)
Jesus ,sounds amazing :
Thanks! :)
Fuckin BRUTAL BRO!!! 💥👊
Dude you rip, that's a given. What really blows me away though is your song writing. It's mine numbingly well written, plus it's beastly heavy! Is there anywhere I can buy your instrumentals?
John Wisdom Thanks! Indeed there is, you can get all my songs here: peteplaysmusic.bandcamp.com/
This and most of my songs also come with Full Tab and a Backing track too :)
You're Best in all worlds!!!
überragend!!!
