Your art is so amazing 👏 😍 💖 please continue to gift us with your talent in every way you enjoy the most. It is very generous of you to film this content and share it for all to appreciate it. I am not tired to watch your detailed creations. It is always mesmerizing. Love from warm Florida. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Thank you so much Maite, it is good to have this feedback as it is encouraging for me to continue... it is slow progress on RUclips for sure. Thrilled you like watching my videos so much... thank you for the support. Merry Christmas 🎅🙏🎄
I wish you ...could change your content if you like...by using soft pastels without pencils...mainly plein air...im just suggesting...if possible. I myself am tired of detailed art...i m liking personally loose artwork
Hi Sujanith, yes, I too love the loose way of painting... I have loosened up massively than what I use to do many years ago. The portraits take around 10.. 15 hours. I know of artists taking up to 100 hours on portrait. It is something I am planning to do in the futures especially plein air landscapes. All the very best 🙏
Hi. I completed this on the patron page, lets say I learnt a lot about pastel techniques filling in missing gaps in my skills. How to create skin tones knitted wool effect, I changed this to a rib effect (knitter will understand this ). I can use it in my other work. I didn’t use all the pencils that Dave mentioned, used what I had I enjoyed the way Dave explained this, given the confidence to move forward this these exercises. Thanks, Dave for sharing your knowledge
What a sublime portrait again. I just get rebellious when I see this, I haven't drawn anything for 4 years now, but I really want to start again. I also want to be able to draw/paint like you do… I know, Patreon…. my biggest problem is starting and the sketch…i'm too precise. But Dave, what a shame that you use your pastel pencils for the background, I would rather do the background with soft pastel crayons or even better with pan pastels, also ideal for underpainting. goes faster and saves pencils.
Hi Juul, thanks. You could always use a project just to get you start then experiment on the side to develop the free hand skills. Regarding backgrounds I have been considering Pan pastels for a long time... but that would mean another expense for my students. It doesn use that much pastel and I love to develop the texture and feelings with the pencil. maybe in the new year I will buy a set of pans just to see... thanks for watching🙏
Wow Dave this portrait is phenomenal and so inspiring. As an artist who paint for quite a few years I have to admit I’d be worried to take on myself such a complicated painting but you showed how amazingly it can be done. Absolutely stunning result 💙🤍
Thank you so much Oded for the kind words... if I may give you some pointers that has helped me... I never look at the details, just focus on the colours and patterns/shapes and faith on focusing on my heart and all seems to just work out. The key is not to analyse too much, has this leads to worrying about future issues that don't really exist. All the power is in the 'now' Thanks for watching, much appreciated. All the very best. 🙏
Thank you Dave, I have learned a lot from you; actually you were the one that introduce pastel pencils to me! I didn't know there actually exists such a great tool; I just used to draw and paint using pastel sticks, oil, and charcoal. I have downloaded your videos and watch them everyday with considerable attention. It's funny that my daughter's accent is going to change to British as a result of listening to your commentary. I wonder if you are able to let me know how you take your videos! Do you use a DSLR cam or a simple mobile phone? I appreciate all your art and generosity.
You are welcome Manely, thanks for watching my videos. I have a mixture of Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. Mother was Yorkshire. Thrilled you have learnt a lot from watching. The camera I use is a Canon M50 Mark1. The software information is in the description below this video. All the very best 🙏
@@DavePortersArt Thank you very much Dave. Actually, my name is Mani; Manely is my daughter's name and this is her account. Can you let me know how you setup your camera? Is it possible to take a short scene of your studio and camera setup (its position and layout related to the easel). I have a lot to share with you, but for the least, you have shown how to use grids for sketching using Guides in Photoshop. You made a grid on the reference photo using Guides; it's time consuming. Photoshop can show grid on photos by pressing Command + H (in macOS). This is the shortcut key for View > Extras. I don't know the shortcut key in Windows, but it may be Ctrl + H. You can set all grid aspects, such as the space between gridlines, subdivisions, and color in the Preferences > Guides, Grid & Slices section. Hope this is helpful to you and others. I appreciate again for your notice and the time it takes to answer my question.
I absolutely love your art it’s amazing, love the detail, which medium do you prefer ? I have been doing drawing but just started oil painting and want to learn more ? Must join your patron channel
Thank you for the kind words Kate. I love both Oils and Pastels... it is hard to say which one I prefer. Thanks for considering joining my Patreon... there is a teir for both Pastels and Oils. 🙏
@@DavePortersArt wow. She is amazing. Thanks for sharing! I wish I could take good photos like that to paint! It would be fun to find a good photographer to teach me how to take my own reference photos.
