Thanks for the kind words. I will pass them on to the Grease. Since leaving the station in Jacksonville a year ago he has taken some time off to pursue some of his other joys in life. I will find out where he is on the air now.
"I had to get the sound effects from Europe" LMAO !!!!!! So True. I sorta used that line back in the day except I told them I had to special order "Exclusive" sound effects especially for their spot" . Grease is a NUT. I loved his show in DC.
First time hearing Mr. Doug Tracht's real voice! Found his show back in the early 90s & I had found GOLD! Listened faithfully everyday, Monday through Friday. Looked forward to it!
Oh....my.....God....this is beautiful. What a legend, and for better or worse, one of the reasons I got into radio 22 freakin' years ago....God bless Grease!
Greaseman you are a ledgend and you nailed the whole Salesman/Client /announcer /production stupidity. Brings back the time we did it all live with a bunch of carts, two turntables, two tape machines and the Greaseman was a genius. Where in the heck is he? he never "did" Australian but in local DJ circles he was one of the worlds best and most entertaining. Love your work mate!
Amazing to see all the old fashioned "carts" and analog buttons, compared to what can now be done on computer! Grease is my hero, and his talent was (is) incredible!
the greaseman is the greatest radio personality ever in history! Stern is a looser! America needs the greaseman! Grease should have his own xm/serios satalite station forever.
Stern's no loser. But I agree Nino Grease Manelli is AMAZING, and I so loved listening to his genius on the air! It's a shame he didn't get to the next level.
I'm not in the radio broadcast industry, but as a fan of the medium I've heard this type of story before. This tape is just another example that shows **** (akaGreaseman) has so much more to offer when he just steps back from his persona and offers up something REAL. Love you, buddy!
Hey Greesemam, used to see your yacht over were I bought mine on Kent Island.Hell yes the "Coach "sold my mine."Great"dude he is! Your shows were Sooo fing funny somtimes I'd starting crying. I just loved the How I love that -TUNA TUNA FISHHHH. Come to think of it I adore it TOOOO. That stinky smiley good Tuna Tuna FIISSHHHH.
We're often asked, "What's it really like working at a radio station?" While I could answer that question, epic radio personality the Greaseman, has already prepared this complete and compelling answer. Watch carefully, and enjoy!
This is exactly how it is. I was a Production Director at a big station and the salespeople and their clients were the worst part of the job. It’s like working in a M*A*S*H unit. Patients (salespeople) come running into your studio with their hair on fire with things that they procrastinate and now become your emergency and want commercials that have to be on the air NOW. Then there are all the clients who think they know better than you how to write and produce a commercial. They all become experts re-writing and re-working your material… and then when you make those terrible changes and the spot doesn’t produce the results they expect, they come back to you and blame you and want to pull out. Of course, neither the station or the salespeople defend you the production director. They stand by the client because they don’t want to lose the buy. So your ass gets chewed out. It’s never ending madness. It can be wonderfully creative but it’s also a stressful game of Whack-A-Mole. If you can endure the relentless pressure to create under pressure and deal with the outrageous politics of salespeople and their ridiculous clients and like crap pay, it’s a great gig.
Hilarious! Damn radio sales people...making all those promises to the client in a :30 sec spot. Gotta love Radio production, forever Radio in my heart.
I always enjoyed doing production. Got into radio at 15 and spent almost 40 years in it, and now doing voiceover from home. Now, with digital, changing a phone number ain't that hard! This was pretty funny though!
I was one of the privileged one of the guys that would sit on the other side of that glass and watch him do his show take part in bits, and eat goat cheese pizza!
Wow :) In 1988 while stationed at the sub base in groton, ct, I moonlighted at Q105 writing and co-producing spots for the then production director. It was just supposed to be a part-time gig...and man oh man do I miss that :)
The Grease was not a Marine. He supports all of our service men and women and is very proud to be an American. He is taking a sabbatical exploring other venues for his public craziness.
All true, back in the day. Wow, carts. Used to love/hate me some carts. Now with digital you can line things up -- keep the lines they'll probably change separate and ready to be dicked around with.
Just to further point out the genius of the Greaseman - at 1:40 he drops the opening notes of "Jesus Christ Superstar", specifically the notes for the fist two words!
YOUR STILL THE BEST ON THE RADIO WHEREVER YOU ARE. THE REST OF THE DJ's LEARNED FROM YOU. ONE BAD STUD VS THE TOE MONSTER.. SCOBIEAKALINKWRAYBAND laurel Md.
@bauerfilms Of course now we all have the Dalets and Prophet workstations and cutting spots is pretty much an electronic 'cut and paste' deal these days. heh.
I had an assistant who was doing a ton of revisions on a spot and I finally asked her about it. Turns out this was a spot for a $150 overnight schedule. These were literally dollar-a-holler spots at a station with a $300 rate card in the daytime. I explained to my assistant and the salesperson that it literally cost us to do those revisions. They didn't get it. I literally pulled out the calculator and showed them the man-hours and studio time on this deal. They still didn't get it.
@ikuyo1comic4man Be jealous no more. the station in JACKSONVILLE has changed to a MUSIC INTENSIVE format. They let the GREASEMAN go. We will have to wait and see where he ends up next.
No wonder stern hated him along with O&A. Sometimes if you ignore stern (Stern was still the best by a mile) you can really enjoy these programs for how funny and original they were.
HATED him when I first came to Ft Belvoir in Aug ‘82. Horrid. Then I heard stories of Stern. Came back from training at Belvoir in Nov ‘82. First heard Stern on him AM afternoon show. Made my day. Grease briefly came to NY market and was way out of his league. How he even started in entertainment of any type is beyond me
Oh....my.....God....this is beautiful. What a legend, and for better or worse, one of the reasons I got into radio 22 freakin' years ago....God bless Grease!
Spot starts Friday-- call the client at 5pm Thursday so no-one else can change it! Nailed it! Greaseman is/was/always will be the Shizzle!
The most talented DJ ever.......hilarious guy......doo dads on your chin, hobble.....

I can't believe I used to do this for a living! This is a dead-on accurate representation of the job. Greaseman, I'm now a fan.
First time hearing Mr. Doug Tracht's real voice! Found his show back in the early 90s & I had found GOLD! Listened faithfully everyday, Monday through Friday. Looked forward to it!
Perfect example of the Grease's comic genius and perfect timing!

Toward the end, he went digital.
Very talented guy
I went through this probably a couple of thousand times in my career. Thanks for bringing back all the bad memories.
He made my mornings great, after working overnight shifts at the Post Office.
I LOVE The Greaseman... So much talent...

Greaseman was a fine broadcaster however...
Water seeks its own level.
Opie and Anthony
By far the most talented shock jock ever!
He is a living legend. A true professional.
I used to LOVE greaseman!! Actually ...I still do!!
A fan of Grease AND Space Ghost? Good taste, my friend! 👍
As a kid I had an old reel to reel and a Christmas light timer… the old ones with the little pins to set the on off time …. Never missed a broadcast…
I am a friend and see him frequently, but I'm still blown away by his genius. Damn , he's brilliant
Tell him he’s greatly missed !

Grew up in DC. Grew up listening to this cat. Fuckin’ awesome. 🤘🏻😆
Haha. That was great! Thanks for sharing this snippet. I LOVE Greaseman; I'm so glad he's back home here in Jax everyday on Rock 105! Cheers
Watching these bits makes me hanker for a bone dry!

I shall pass your sentiments on to the Grease. Thanks.
Greaseman is now on Web Radio Classics
Hilarious! Damn radio sales people...making all those promises to the client in a :30 sec spot. Gotta love Radio production, forever Radio in my heart.
This guy's radio show was crazy😂
Someone once described it being like a cartoon for your mind.
Exactly F-ing right!.. except New and Improved with Adobe Audition! Love it!
I swear that music for when the cassette tape shines gold is from Everquest 1
@dgoldberg3 the greatest compliment is from one who knows. Thanks,And thanks for being a fan...better late then never.

Waddle Doodle!

I love and miss the Doodad Daddy. I think about him and his manic zaniness every time I do production for one of our clients.
All true, back in the day. Wow, carts. Used to love/hate me some carts. Now with digital you can line things up -- keep the lines they'll probably change separate and ready to be dicked around with.
I met the Grease in Atlanta sill in His Prime in 1997 ...JZP @ Amazon Studios
Only know of this man because of Anthony Cumia
23 years later... it's hasn't changed much.
The man is a genius
Man I miss The Grease
we all miss him. I heard from him recently. he does not plan to come back to radio. and there was much sadness
@@bauerfilms 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫

Very clever!
Oh yes! Since 1973, I've often wanted to throttle a saleshole.
wHY CANT PEOPLE REALIZE HE IS THE FUNNIEST PERSON ON THE RADIO, WISH HE WAS HERE IN COCOA BEACH. WHERE IS HE ON NOW.
@bauerfilms Of course now we all have the Dalets and Prophet workstations and cutting spots is pretty much an electronic 'cut and paste' deal these days. heh.
Sure do miss the Grease man...
Imagine having to change a spot because a first-time radio advertiser knows better than you what will get results!

Awesome cat
MOTORBOATING MOTORBOATING!
websuspect, you are a deep thinker and your point is well taken.
He punched up the funny as he was wont to do....but can concur...this is EXACTLY how it works most of the time.
Whaaaaaa?!?!?!?!
EVERY sales rep (in radio, anyway) should do some time as a production director FIRST!
Yup.
Grease Manelli!
NINO GREASE MANELLI
annnnnd still the same in 2021 hahahaha
thats way to funny but true for the most part LOL
Good luck with whatever you are producing.
For those not in the industry...this is hilarious
@Ranseler I will pass on your blessing to the Greaseman. you can hear him on rock105i.com
Was there ever a suitcase full of diamonds?
cool
Thank goodness for Adobe Audition 😂
Holy shit he sound zapp
Same problem when MBAs think they know more about a system than the engineers who designed it.
@ikuyo1comic4man Be jealous no more. the station in JACKSONVILLE has changed to a MUSIC INTENSIVE format.

When I was pregnant with my first child, Grease was at Dc101. He did the daddy from W.V. On a subway car. It was so gross that I puked! 😂😂😂
He does affect some people that aren't pregnant that way.
LMAO

Stern ain’t in his league, just a shock jock pure and simple. Greaseman was/is a brilliant comedian.
I always imagined Greaseman as a fat guy with thinning black hair when he was on K-rock.
Waddle doodle
When all is said and done, this was a freaking genius ...annoying as hell, but most of them are
He has terrible posture
Oh....my.....God....this is beautiful. What a legend, and for better or worse, one of the reasons I got into radio 22 freakin' years ago....God bless Grease!
