Indeed. It was very distinctive, and the instant you hear a few bars of almost any of the music they used from this show you can recognize it. How different from the bland music of TNG. Apart from the opening theme (which TNG can't claim credit for, as was recycled from Star Trek: the Motion Picture) I doubt I would recognize a single note of the music used on that show. It was completely unmemorable. This was by design. After Dennis McCarthy composed some fairly lively music for a couple of early episodes, Rick Berman came to him and told him "I don't want music in our face, I want it to be wallpaper." What an idiot. This is yet another reason I hate Rick Berman (and Brannon Braga). Think how many scenes in movies and television are _made_ by the score. Imagine Star Wars (the original trilogy, of course) or Superman: the Movie or Jaws without John Williams' music, or Conan the Barbarian without Basil Polidouris' epic soundtrack. Star trek theatrical plays could be really grand and spectacular with modern stage tech...on stage holograms and projections and really cool dune style costumes and Shakespearian dialogue but a little dumbed down...would be perfect for Jean luc picard (Patrick stewart) he can play an wise old man character or himself as admiral in the future and explain it all with Dimensional travel

But I much prefer one of his love theme cues from "Metamorphosis" being used again in "The Gamesters of Triskelion," which also reused the famous battle theme from "Amok Time."

Still, if only Jeffrey Hunter hadn't gone to do movies in Spain, he wouldn't have had his brain injury that months later cost him his life. There likely wouldn't have been a Captain Kirk, unless the name was recycled for another starship captain or character. Maybe Shatner would have played a guest star in one episode who fights Captain Pike in hand-to-hand combat, like if he'd played Gary Mitchell in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" to Hunter's Captain Pike?
Great episode, though I would have thought they would have perfected cloning so after transferring to the robots they could create real bodies for themselves to inhabit, with the flaws removed so they wouldn't burn them up. Still enjoyed it.

After encountering the Organians, Jack the Ripper/Boradis/Kesla, and the Thasians, doesn't it seem a little bizarre for Kirk to say "Impossible" when confronted with yet another being of pure energy?
In season 1, Kirk was too tentative - sort of like Captain Pike. But in season 2, Kirk was a dynamo - much like the Alexander the Great character he portrayed in a failed pilot.
