Nuyen and Shatner were on Broadway in The World of Suzie Wong, opening in October 1958. And it's good to see Robinson not chew up the scenery and still get his character across.
@@jjgrey1488 I saw it on RUclips but maybe it was only a clip? Apparently, it was terrible. This article is from a site having to do with his hair (whatever), but it's an interesting read.
Theiss was the one who designed the costumes. The "Theiss Titillation Theory" states that, for a costume to be sexy, the amount of skin wasn't the primary factor; instead, it must look like the slightest disturbance will cause it to fall off. And indeed, a lot of these costumes simply wouldn't have held on their own. As a result, they had to use a lot of tape to keep them on the girls.
Thanks for the upload... but you should have uploaded another minute! You know, the minute when the klingon ship actually opens fire on the Enterprise.
I remember the paperback Star Trek books. They originally had this chick as a silvery blonde. Roddenberry flipped it and gave homegirl some braids and a tan!!!

So she is "poisonous", in which she can influence the behaviour of men (basically everyone onboard), including the Capitain. No measures to prevent that were taken. I suppose it is more exciting this way.
I watched an old an episode of the old Kung Fu TV series that aired in 1974 where France Nuyen & William Shatner were portrayed as husband and wife. France did not look hot or cute anymore even though she was in nice clothes and wearing makeup for the character. She looked like she was around age 45 or so (lost weight/bony in the face). I was shocked to find out since she was born in 1939 France was only about age 35 when that episode aired.
Excellent episode, and introduced the design of the Klingon D 7 battle cruser, created by Walter Matt Jefferies. Loved this episode, also looks much better in the aired 60's version than that enhanced stuff they came out with.

I always wondered why the Enterprise did not carry some spare dilithium crystals.
This sounds like a hole for fan fiction to fill.

That's a big no, no! Do that and a full episode would last for about 10mins.
Best episode.
If I had a dilithium crystal every time a woman said she loved me, I would . . . be Captain Kirk
Docking in every port.. Even Commander Riker can't beat Kirk's record
@@Macbille Nah, Riker is the ONLY man who can surpass Kirk.
I've had many women love me, but they were all the wrong women for me 😂
That lady looked distinctly ancient Egyptian.
As someone commented, Star Trek production probably used to raid studio's figurines even for episodes, which were not on Earth or Earth-like planets.
I was thinking that too! lol
She does look it, but in reality actress Frances Nguyen is Vietnamese.
😮 And half French
French Indo Chinese
Indeed. And yet, her name is Elaan...of Troyius. Derived from none other than Homer, pre-eminent ancient Greek storyteller. That's Hollywood!
France Nuyen as Elaan one of her best performance even with the extra make up.
Far as Im concerned she could have stayed that way even in real life!
I always wondered why Scotty didn’t have some emergency supply of dilithium crystals on the ship for a circumstance such as this. #CriticalRedundancy
The green guy, that is Jay Robinson who played Caligula in The Robe with Richard Burton... a great actor.
He reminds me of Martin Short.
Holy hell! He out-hammed Shatner! :o Truly, over the top in the Robe.
@@danielbrissenden2555 Yep
I knew him mainly from the Saturday morning series "Dr. Shrinker," but he was a prolific guest star on many television series in the 70's.

How so?
Kirk is thinking dammit little Jimmy got me in trouble again
The ambassador is Jay Robinson; he played Caligula in the 1953 film called "The Robe".
"Dr. Shrinker" looks a bit green!
the green guy played the evil Julius Caesar part in old 1960's biblical movies
Actually, he play Caligula, and was quite good at it
The films were The Robe, and Demetrius and the Gladiators.
I didn't realize how sheer some of the female costumes were until better editions were released.
That orange dress... Then the dress this chick wore on the bridge. It had no sides, giving the impression of no underwear.
Some was so sheer that they had to be glued onto the actresses & took some skin with it when removed.
@@indriadrayton1132 No underwear good.
So advanced civilization are so beyond the libido stage that covering modestly wasn’t an issue except for James T Kirk who was hyper-libidinous

"That's all you men can speak of, duty and responsibility." Now we KNOW she's an alien woman. XDDDDDDD
Interesting that Jay Robinson played Ambassador Petri - he had a breakdown after playing Caligula in "The Robe" and "Demetrius and the Gladiators".
+John Herlihy He was in prison during that time. This would have been his first job right out of prison.
I think the actor with the green face played Caligula in another movie in the 50s or early 60s. I recognize the voice.
France Nuyen, one of the most beautiful women of all time.
With a ton of makeup true.
No makeup needed!

This is the first time we see a Klingon battle cruiser too isn’t it ?!
