Skitty is by far the best starter in mystery dungeon. 1. Attract affects everything, including legendary bosses simply because genders do not exist. It renders the opponent completely immobile. 2. Sing is pretty decent. Accuracy is low, but it's awesome not needing to carry around sleep seeds in the limited inventory. 3. Double Slap has a lot of PP and deals out 30-40 damage per hit at later levels. Combine that with a linked tail whip or attract and you're bound to destroy bosses extremely quickly and leave them useless. I've played through the game with skitty multiple times and the only bosses is has trouble with are Skarmory and Gengar due to their resistance to normal type moves.
You don't know how hard the arrow hit in my heart when Skitty was like fifth in line they're a wonderful option and they were my first starter all your reasons fit exactly plus you don't really have to worry about fighting type moves since you usually going to be stronger once you encounter fighting types and you can knock them out with a good sleep and wake up slap.
Actually Smokescreen may not be useful in dungeons, but it's OP against bosses. It doesn't make them miss more often, it makes them miss altogether. It may last for 2 turns on bosses, but once it snaps out of it, you can use it again.
i wouldn't be so quick to discount skitty. while i haven't used it myself, i do know that attract is absolutely broken un in this game, and skitty's doubleslap, being a multi-hit move, is probably very handy. squirtle is also very useful because it gets bubble, which went from being one of the worst water moves in the main series to being one of the best in mystery dungeon. the same kinda applies to chikorita and razor leaf, but it's not very useful against bosses. personally, i'm partial to charmander, but that's just because i love charizard.
1) i’ve played as skitty before. attract is broken as hell, and i find tail whip + double slap to be one of the best fast ko options in the game. don’t count her out. 2) in my most recent playthrough of red rescue, i was a treecko, and i found tm bullet seed in mt thunder. late game it was doing 30 damage per hit. that’s a maximum of 150 damage, which is ridiculous.
how is skitty ranked as anything other than the strongest? attract and doubleslap are both completely broken in this game, especially if you link them. plus you get tail whip immediately, which can be linked with either tackle or doubleslap, causing them both to do absurd amounts of damage, particularly doubleslap.

Lmao Pikachu and Skitty are easily the 2 best starters. Between Pikachu's thunderbolt, thunder wave, and agility, and Skitty attract and double slap no one else comes close
My problem with Pikachu is the dungeons which have pokemon with Lightningrod. It's so frustrating that one Pokemon with Lightningrod, no matter where it is, makes all your electric moves useless.

Eevee is better in the explorer's games because it gets adaptable as one of his abilities. In the rescue games Eevee only has run away so it's pretty bad.
Cubone is actually a beast. My moveset was Boomerang(multi-hit long range!!), Flamethrower, Ice Beam and Earthquake by late game. And because my partner was Pikachu my water type weakness was not a problem.

I revisited this gem of a gem not so long ago, and I picked Meowth for me and Charmander as my partner. If I'm honest with you, the main reason I picked Meowth is because it gets the best looking base after you complete the whole chestnut Mankey event. However, I find Meowth to be /the/ best player character to pick, as long as you pick either Charmander or Cyndaquil as your partner. Let's talk Meowth's ability. Pick-up is much more useful that one might initially think. In normal dungeons, it has a chance to pick up an item every time you proceed to the next floor, but in the dojo it picks up items 100% of the time. It has saved me many runs by clutching items that I needed (apples, max elixirs) or even items I wouldn't have gotten otherwise (TM earthquake). Pay Day has 22PP, it's like scratch but instead you get extra money if you defeat a Pokemon with it. The amount you get depends on the dungeon and not on the defeated pokemon's level, meaning it's actually valid to farm money in a dungeon. Being able to comfortably buy any orbs, TMs, seeds or max elixirs that you want early on (or hoarding them like me) goes a very long way to help you get through the main game /and/ carries over to post-game, especially when you don't evolve Meowth (which is what I did). Meowth is a normal-type and it doesn't have any type match-ups in its favor, but trust me when I tell you that it won't matter when you have Fury Swipes and Screech. Just using screech once makes a huge difference, but stacking it is mega lethal and there's very little any boss can do against it. Now, I believe you "very little" into "nothing" with your partner's Smokescreen. In the main story, you lose a dungeon run if either you or your partner is defeated, and since Smokescreen doesn't make enemies miss more often, but makes them miss altogether, it provides a Fail-Safe strategy to use in a pinch in any dungeon, or to help with any boss. Keep in mind that you get access to Smokescreen way earlier than Screech and Fury Swipes, so you might even wanna depend on it before you get your own setup up and running. In my run, I picked up a Scyther as soon as I had access to Sinister Woods. It learns Agility somewhere down the line and in combination with Screech, Fury Swipes (STAB) and Smokescreen. You can defeat pretty much any boss before it gets to deal /any/ damage. That said, the only boss you'll the proper chance to use this strat on will be the final boss and maybe the one before that, but in post-game you'll pretty much have it all up and running. Note: Keep in mind that if you pick charmander as your partner, Scary Face on a boss has the same effect as Agility on your team so you don't have to have any other Pokemon. My movesets: Meowth: Payday, Fury Swipes, Screech, Cut. Charizard: Wing Attack, Ember, Smokescreen, Heat Wave. Scizor: Fury Cutter, Swords Dance, Agility, Steel Wing.
Reflect and Light Screen on Chikorita is something that should not be overlooked. That's a free double defense to the entire party and it boosts your survival incredibly. Couple that with Synthesis and Chikorita can prove to have incredible endurance even in dungeons filled with ice and fire and flying types all over the place. Just make sure she's got a good attacker to help her.
Smokescreen carries against bosses really nicely. Them missing almost all their attacks made charmander or cyndaquil choices very nice for my playthroughs. Though I didnt know torchic got mirror move so that's probably still the best of the three fire guys for that reason
I was expecting Eevee to be at the bottom. After all, I played through as Eevee and never learned a single move that hit an opponent far away from me. However, I won because Gravelerrock + Oran Berries = standing behind your partner and throwing Gravelerrocks until the enemy dies, and throwing Oran Berries when your partner is low health.
IMO Treecko is absolutely one of the best. His offensive utility is just insane. Naturally learns Screech and Agility by level up, packing one of the most busted debuff moves and one of the best support moves in the entire game
this is cool! though i wouldnt be so quick to nerf Smokescreen, as it guarentees that none of the afflicted Pokemon's attacks hit and its insaaaaanely useful against boss fights when you have a grass partner (I'm looking at you Moltres)
This isn't accounting for the new games 'starting moves' though... IF you are talking specifically about the starters for Red and Blue for the GBA then ignore this... But it seems like all the pokemon have ABUSIVELY POWERFUL moves... Like Cubone getting Brutal Swing or Charmander and Treecko getting Dragon Rage... it's pretty weird~
I just did a run with Machop as my starter, I've got to say that it was really enjoyable. If you're diligent about getting every item in the dungeon, then you'll encounter Zapdos with a sizeable level advantage. Moltres was the hardest of the three to beat, but having focus energy helps a ton, and then Articuno goes down in 2 focus energy boosted low kick's if you survive 1 peck. Other than that, the only difficulty I had was post game, and only because I had to go through the trouble of evolving into Machamp at level 36 because that's basically how strong I was at the end of the story, and you can only evolve post game.
Ended up getting Psyduck as my main and Chikorita as my partner without knowing any of this- At this point I do less fighting and more playing nurse for my green machine gun. Like it doesn't matter the type matchup, I'm going to throw berries and he's going to mow down every legendary bird in the way without breaking a sweat. Best Rescue Team On Planet
Skitty is insanely op. Hes perma used in all speedruns so you know hes fucking awwesome. Meowth is also incredible but only late game at like Sky Tower when he gets Fury Swipes.
I would rank torchic below charmander and cyndaquil because torchic learns mirror coat at level 37. When do you beat the game? A little under level 30 oh yeah charmander and cyndaquil learns smokescreen which works exactly the same as attract meaning it's broken
I did Psyduck and Torchic and I actually had a really good time with that pairing. Managed to beat all the bosses with them. Psyduck's Disable is very useful along with Fury Swipes
Mudkip and cyndaquil work pretty well, cyndaquil learns smokescreen and that’s good on bosses, Mudkip can learn ice beam so you can take out rayquaza easily. with groundon you have type advantages, you’ll have type advantages against Moltres and articuno. So It’s a pretty good team, but Skitty is pretty op so she works really well too.
Why torchic best fire starter? Dark Crater is explorers, not rescue team. Also whiffer status makes them miss all attacks, not lower the chance. So in my opinion Torchic is worse than Charmander and Cyndaquil
Cubone is BOY AND GIRL! Lonely Boys will become Cubone, Girls......Well, I don't remember which personality type, but yeah! It's MACHOP that's brave boys only! Get it right, dude!
I feel like you underestimate the normal types a lot. Skitty is honestly busted. Eevee hits hard, I usually keep tackle and quick attack then maybe bite or like shadow ball. Meowth is the one I've used the least out of the normals, fury swipes goes crazy as always but having fake out for range is alright and the pp situation with slash and scratch isn't a bad situation to be in
Id put charmander higher simply because it has heatwave for monster houses so you dont have to carry things like petrify orbs and learns fly which destroys bosses
I choose Cubone as my starter and torchic as my partner ( I like torchic more that Cubone but I want torchic to be my friend lol ) Edit: I deleted my save data to pick torchic as a starter cause well, yeah
Abimael Vargas I just played through the game as Machop with a Treecko partner. I had a lot of type disadvantages but still had a good time with them. For machop, linking Leer and Karate Chop will deal tons of damage. Only boss I had a hard time with was Rayquaza and that’s cause I accidentally used a sleep seed on myself.
You'd be slightly better off with a water or fire type, as Brennan mentions you'll have a few more type disadvantages in the main story if you pick Grass. Mainly that the legendary birds and Rayquaza will be a bit more annoying. I can't say you could choose something catastrophically wrong- oh, excpet Psyduck.
Pikachu is definetly top tier if not the best starter. 1) it gets stab off the bat 2) it's ability doesn't need you to be at low HP to activate 3) it gets access to some of the best TMs dig/rest/focus punch/shock wave 4) it learns Agility via level up which speaks for itself 5) Thunderbolt is OP Second best is Treecko cuz Overgrow giga drain and agility
Honestly torchic should be lower on the list since this is focusing on the main game and not post game, your not getting Mirror move/getting close to level 37 unless you grind alot in the Dojo
I have never understood why psyduck, machop, cubone, meowth, or skitty were starters i feel there were better choices although i am drawing a blank on them
Amd than PMD2 came where Charmander and Pikachu got totally OP through there Agility+Heatwave/Discharge Link Kombo laying entire Monsterrooms and Dungeons to waste without any effort!
I'd rank Pikachu higher. If you use agility and double team together (or link them like a madlad) you get to move multiple times per turn and nobody can hit you.
in pokemon blue rescue team i got charmander as a starter and link all his moves ya know and at the very start it was allready great cuz a linked growl scratch ember and metal claw with my partner who is squirtle i think it was pretty op and i completed the game in 2 days :D
i just finished a run of blue rescue team. i played as a Charmander named Ember, my moveset currently is; Hidden Power, Flamethrower, Flamethrower, and Metal Claw. (yes flamethrower twice, i bought the tm for it before i reached the appropriate level and didn't think i'd still get it, it's a very useful move to have so it's great having 24 pp of it) my partner is a Totodile named Caima; their moveset is currently; Ice Beam, Bite, Water Gun, and Slash. I've also been training up that Magnemite you get early on, they're very useful for the water dungeons in the post game since neither of my main team are particularly effective, unless i get lucky with Hidden Power. I'd like to ask if anyone has a good wondermail generator for this game? i can only find a working one for explorers, but not rescue team. i'd like to recruit the other starters, but actually getting them to is proving difficult. i've found some of them (i just did the dungeon Mew is in, but didn't find them). Thank you!
Well, I'll say I certainly _didn't_ use desmume, since obtaining the rom to use with it would be copyright infringement. To be exact, what I "didn't" do is put desmume in fullscreen with the top and bottom screen displayed side by side, (in the "view" settings), record my screen and then crop and resize the two screens in my video editor, no I did not, if that's what you were wondering. That being said I do have a 2DS capture card lying around. If you're asking how to record it legally, *Long tangent alert* what you need to do is either buy a 3DS capture card from loopy (his site is 3dscapture.com) or Katsukity. Unfortunately loopy is almost always out of stock (and I fear it will remain that way for the foreseeable future), so you're stuck with katsukity. While katsukity is technically not out of stock, last time I checked the wait times to receive capture cards from him was 10 months after you buy it, and for all I know it could be even longer now. He also sells capture cards for the 3DS XL models, but I've heard lots of anecdotal evidence that the USB ports on his XL capture cards break frequently. Like, every few months. And he charges you to repair them and lord knows what kidn of wait times a repait job has. (Thankfully my 2DS capture card has been fine so far- I've had it for a good couple years now.) As far as I'm aware nobody does capture cards for the original DS (except kastukity, which of course has that wait time problem i mentioned) so if you want a capture card in less than a year.... well, you're kind of out of luck. tl:dr, just use desmume for DS games, and Citra is getting more viable for 3DS games. Last time I checked it doesn't run anything perfectly, but it'll be good enough for the time being.
Ok! :D Thank you that is genuinely really helpful! I also -don't- have desmume so that will be handy dandy! I do really appreciate you going out of your way and above and beyond to help me out even though you didn't have to! You've been incredibly supportive to me by checking out my vids and even subscribing you're really spoiling me XD I'll do my best to support you as well!
This whole list is kind of bad. You have stats their as if it mattered. Their stats in PMD universe are completely different from main game, so no cubone doesn't need Thick Club, I'd say cubone deserved to be higher in the list purely because off Bonemerang. Eevee probably should be under psyduck, and skitty should be way higher due to attract/double slap and even sing if u wanna be that more annoying.
maybe this is out of the subject but i had a skitty on my first play, yet i really disliked the pokemon that much that i got stuck inside the sky tower because i wasn't able to stay alive until the top. then, when i changed and got an eevee, which i loved to have it with me, the dungeon was so much easier than before.. but that's probably me, as i was seeing pokemon as pokemon and not as pve fighters
My starter of choice is charmander because when you Evolve it to a charizard, the post game is so easy just heat wave away anything that doesnt have flash fire though 😅

I’m using this for the new Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX
I got Psyduck, and despite the hardships, I managed to beat the game.
Strange...for me it was really easy with him
I did Psyduck and Torchic and I actually had a really good time with that pairing. Managed to beat all the bosses with them. Psyduck's Disable is very useful along with Fury Swipes
I'd put Bulbasur above Treecko did to being part poison making it immune to the poison status and getting Razor Leaf through Level up.
Wait Torchic is on the thumbnail twice
XD
Mudkip and cyndaquil work pretty well, cyndaquil learns smokescreen and that’s good on bosses, Mudkip can learn ice beam so you can take out rayquaza easily. with groundon you have type advantages, you’ll have type advantages against Moltres and articuno. So It’s a pretty good team, but Skitty is pretty op so she works really well too.
Starting my first playthrough rn with that exact team
Philipp how’s it going?
@@editinggacha132 Beat Zapdos yesterday, my partner is way stonger than me though lol
Philipp yeah, he was hard for me too. Articuno might be a bit of a challenge but if you have ember and smokescreen on cyndaquil you should be fine.
Get it right, dude!
skitty is actually by far the strongest of them all lol
Uh no that's wrong cuz shes not a legendary :/
starberry pinky legendary can’t stun lock bs
It sucks
*use a machop*
*kill 100% of all the skitty species*
@@I_AM_JUST_A_NARCISSIST use a skitty
*attract and doubleslap till dead*
I would rank Pikachu higher due to how well it performs against bosses 3 bosses in the main story are weak against it
yeah but he gets anihilated by Groudon and trust me, it more than makes up for it tenfold.
I feel like you underestimate the normal types a lot. Skitty is honestly busted. Eevee hits hard, I usually keep tackle and quick attack then maybe bite or like shadow ball. Meowth is the one I've used the least out of the normals, fury swipes goes crazy as always but having fake out for range is alright and the pp situation with slash and scratch isn't a bad situation to be in
This games getting remade!
How is Skitty so far down the list?? Skitty in PMD is overpowered
Once you get Skitty in the test you might just name yourself Beerus
Id put charmander higher simply because it has heatwave for monster houses so you dont have to carry things like petrify orbs and learns fly which destroys bosses
Meowth is way too low, the speedrun wr uses Meowth as the starter
Speedruns use Skitty, not Meowth.
I always went Pikachu and Chamander, then later Chimpchar.
Early game was pretty difficult. 😅
I'm surprised. I thought Psyduck can learn Water Gun since many Ducks in FR/LG belong to trainers know it
can you do this for Pokemon mystery dungeon sky
Does anyone know if bought and used TMs appear in the shop again? I messed up..
Pretty sure they do. Why wouldn’t they?
Why is torchic put in twice in the thumbnail?
started playing blue rescue team, starter is psyduck. feels bad man
I choose Cubone as my starter and torchic as my partner ( I like torchic more that Cubone but I want torchic to be my friend lol )
Edit: I deleted my save data to pick torchic as a starter cause well, yeah
Didnt even know they had abilities in mystery dungeon
I want to pick machop as my starter so any ideas of who my partner should be?
Brave male
Psyduck isn't as bad as Machop or Cubone, since it has good matchups against almost every boss
Doing a Charmander/Pikachu play now. Usually did a Charmander/Squirtle.
3:32 I've had to go through that pain as well _shudders_
Pikachu is definetly top tier if not the best starter.
1) it gets stab off the bat
2) it's ability doesn't need you to be at low HP to activate
3) it gets access to some of the best TMs dig/rest/focus punch/shock wave
4) it learns Agility via level up which speaks for itself
5) Thunderbolt is OP
Second best is Treecko cuz Overgrow giga drain and agility
Discharge is in Explores 😂 not in this game
@@zhipcomics3001 OH SHIT YOU RIGHT. Well even without it Pika is still top tier
Nothing compares to how overpowered Skitty is.
Honestly torchic should be lower on the list since this is focusing on the main game and not post game, your not getting Mirror move/getting close to level 37 unless you grind alot in the Dojo
Cubone and cyndaquil as partner is really nice.
I have never understood why psyduck, machop, cubone, meowth, or skitty were starters i feel there were better choices although i am drawing a blank on them
Might’ve been a popularity conquest inside Chunsoft.
Bruh treecko is one of the best bullet seed is stupid OP lol blasted through the main story 😂😂
Amd than PMD2 came where Charmander and Pikachu got totally OP through there Agility+Heatwave/Discharge Link Kombo laying entire Monsterrooms and Dungeons to waste without any effort!
Meowth is the pokemon to get passed the game quickly with RNG manipulations
I'd rank Pikachu higher. If you use agility and double team together (or link them like a madlad) you get to move multiple times per turn and nobody can hit you.
in pokemon blue rescue team i got charmander as a starter and link all his moves ya know and at the very start it was allready great cuz a linked growl scratch ember and metal claw with my partner who is squirtle i think it was pretty op and i completed the game in 2 days :D
Thanks for the information you should do more videos like this
Hey still make videos?
Do explorers of time darkness and sky
If I do an LP of it. I have a feeling our lord and saviour Mudkip is going to rank near the top.
@@thestupidgenius55 Idk about Mudkip, but Pikachu, Skitty, Vulpix and Riolu seems to be top tiers from my experience.
Nice video it helps me out a lot
i just finished a run of blue rescue team. i played as a Charmander named Ember, my moveset currently is;
Hidden Power, Flamethrower, Flamethrower, and Metal Claw. (yes flamethrower twice, i bought the tm for it before i reached the appropriate level and didn't think i'd still get it, it's a very useful move to have so it's great having 24 pp of it)
my partner is a Totodile named Caima; their moveset is currently;
Ice Beam, Bite, Water Gun, and Slash.
Thank you!
Gotta love how it says cubone is for brave but I got brave and was given machop
Pikachu should be a lot higher. One-shot to everything but Groudon.
I'm sorry to bother you aboot this but how do you record DS gameplay? :O
I mostly start with mudkip with my partner is charmander
Uh... Screech fury swipes anyone? Most op combo in the game.
exactly lol
Tail Whip, Tackle, Double Slap. Skitty has no equal.
meowth is used in pmd1 speedruns to get sub 2, apparently he isnt good but ok
Am I the only person that never evolves the starters?
My starter of choice is charmander because when you Evolve it to a charizard, the post game is so easy just heat wave away anything that doesnt have flash fire though 😅
UCZetaGundam Swampert is my favorite Starter because is similar to chsrizard, they have a large distance move (flamethrower and hydropump) and a All poke in a room move (heat wave and earthquake) to late game.
Yes! Mudkip is number one! 💙
Lol i just ansered honestly and got squirtle and my friends favorite was torchic so looks like i got a good team
Frick i got psyduck
yo pikachu SUCKS in rescue team do you know how many pokemon have lighting rod in the main game
Psyduck gang rise up!
in mystery dungeon dx im using eevee and psyduck lel
I picked Chikorita and Moltres was a bitch to defeat
You have to be a girl to get Eevee wow
very helpful! thank you
Skitty and Psyduck >
I am meowth in darkness 😅
So I herd you liekd mudkipZz
Mudkip gang 👍👍👍👍
Wtf I mean sorry but psyduck got me by surpirse cause I never got it before. Sorry for wasting your time carry on
You have to be a girl to get eevee that's a bit sexist
Eathquake Kills friends só os useless
