Yes, a great little round. My first .22mag was a Krico 352 D bought in 1985, that thing would shoot genuine 1 inch 5 shot groups at 100yds using Winchester super x 40 gn jsps which cost 5 bucks a box at Kmart. I've had Anschutzes, CZs, Rugers and now my little sako quad. I still reckon the Krico was the best, VERY well made and accurate. Nick Harvey did a test report on the Krico back in 1985 and he loved it..I can see why. When it comes to what you said about the round I totally agree...a great hunting(Not target) round which has taken an unfair back seat to the HMR. If I were to choose between the .22mag and the 17HMR it would be the .22mag any day. cheers, Sean.
G'day, I bought the LA101 in 22 magnum a week after watching your review of it and I gotta say that it has become my "hands down" favorite rifle & calibre, as far as expence goes I feel I am way in front now because my 22-250 stays at home when I go hunting for ferral's because this beautiful, comfortable, high quality, economical and laser like accurate little rifle does it all. I'm in love!!! Thank you again Ozzie Reviews.
Great review Ozzie! Another virtue of this cartridge is that compared to thirty years ago, today we have a huge range of brands to choose from. On top of this the accuracy today with this round compared to thirty years ago has improved dramatically. Thanks for sharing!
Any questions I have on most cartridges you have been my go to place. No fancy or pretty words, just very simple and straightforward. Love the channel and will recommend you to my friends. New subscriber as well.
Hows the precision? thats one of the major drawbacks. Rifles in 22wmr is hit and miss (literaly) if accuracy is 1" at 100 yards, some are 2-3 at best. Esp. the CZ 455 has had a bad reputation regarding 22wmr barrels. My aunts husband had a 22wmr anchutz, could shoot shotgunshells at 100 meters, a real sniper rifle considering.
.22wmr is my favorite go to cartridge. I have several center fire rifles, but for a man portable rifle and ammo combo, .22wmr is hard to beat! I always enjoy the reviews. Keep ‘‘em coming! Tony from Central Oklahoma USA.
Loving these reviews Ozzie and talking about price and availability is really useful information. Would have loved to see you compare and contrast with the .17 hmr since its probably got a similar use case (rimfire for shooting small game at longer distances then 22lr)
Ozzie: "You can get it (22WMR) in so many different calibres and variations" 17HMR: *Sad violin music plays in background* "LOOK I CAN DO Vmax! Did you SEE THE VMAX rounds I HAVE?! Did I mention I come in Vmax?!"
Don't forget break actions. My Chiappa little badger is in 22wmr. I carry it as a back up rifle in my pack. Normally carry either my 300BLK or 308 & have the badger in case dinner shows up & the game I'm hunting doesn't.
@@williammccaslin8527 I have plenty of 22lrs, so no need. Target, hunting plinking, semi-auto & revolver. That's why I went for the 22wmr for my back pack rifle.
I own a 22lr semi auto and 17hmr bolt. I have long wondered about selling both and getting a 22wmr semi - this actually the most powerful semi auto rifle allowed in the uk.
Nice discussion. Just FYI, I accidentally bought some .22 WRF, which is a bit different (shorter case), but it cycles fine in my Henry lever. Might be an ammo option if you find it on sale.
just found that out my self other day. and bright side it's only $11 for 50 wmr is $25 for 50. we're I am in Canada. get a extra 50 rounds for the same price.
I've been killing wild hogs with it for 40 + yrs, I shoot 40 gr fmj's an I always take head shots, never more than 100 yds tho, I feel that's ethical an I harvest the meat to, I shoot a 40 yr old marlin bolt gun cause it gives me the accuracy I need, an I know I can kill larger game if need be, it works well for me.
Chiapas 22WMR single shot makes a great little camp rifle for snakes/Wild dogs and even bigger if you’re good enough. Rounds are cheap enough and a 50 rnd brick weighs fuck all. A very good all round caliber of your range is around 100 meters or so.
I had a Marlin with a heavy bull barrel in this calibre, and it was dead accurate. Useful for everything from rabbits up to - more or less - goats. But it is expensive considering you can't reload it, and if you like eating rabbits or even hares, it does make a bit of a mess of them. So unless I was just getting rid of pests, I preferred Winchester rabbit ammo subsonics. Always hit with a wet sort of thump, and you could tell the rabbit wasn't going anywhere. Not a lot of good for anything bigger, but deadly on rabbits.
Convenience is the name of the game with all rimfires, and the .22 Magnum is no different. They do what they are supposed too, sometimes more. It´s not a gun for people who value high end accuracy over all other factors. It is a very utilitarian caliber! If there would be a lead band in the future, it could perhaps become the new .22LR, since lighter bullets would have to go a lot faster to be effective.
Don't we mean "cartridge" rather than "calibre" here? There are many, many .22 calibre cartridges (as we know, calibre = projectile / bullet diameter) with many "cartridges" providing the momentum. Could be confusing for new shooters?
I have the anschutz 1516 it loves 50 cci ammo does not like the 30 grn cci ammo ,they are very fussy on ammo , I shot loads of rabbits and foxes with it , it’s handy when I go rabbit shooting I don’t need one of my centre fires with me when Fox turns up
