I can help with that. 1 litre of diesel contains about 10kwh of energy. 1kwh of gas was around 4p before the price hikes, I can't imagine it is higher than around 7p per kWh now. 1kwh of electricity is around 20p now. So if diesel is 1.90 a litre then you're looking at 19p per kWh. So that it is the fuel, the problem is that isn't converted into useable heat energy, much of it gets lost in combustion. Your home gas boiler might be 50% efficient (on average) so expect a cost of 14p per useable kWh of heat. Electric is pretty much 95% efficient for standard filament heaters. So pretty much all your money gets turned to useable heat at 20p per kWh. Diesel heaters like this are about 30% efficient with most of the heat going out of the exhaust, plus still needing electric to run as well. So the real cost is maybe 57p per useable kWh of heat energy. With the setup he has it is even worse efficiency, since that pipe from the heater is a great opportunity for loss of energy. Not cheaper at all. The red diesel thing is a bit of a nothing also, since you're not likely to find anyone willing to supply you with small amounts like that. And if they do charge high enough amounts that the savings won't cover the costs of collecting it from the supplier. The cheapest method of heating your home is gas boilers as it stands.

I have one of the Vevor 8kw units heating my house and use it every evening for about 6 hours. So far costing be around £20 per week in regular diesel.

@@matthewyabsley with the energy price guarantee now gas is little less than 10p and electricity just over 30p. Red diesel is 1.5£ per liter and comes in 20 L drum, delivered and included of VAT. Yours is a very interesting calculation and I will grab pen and paper in the afternoon to do the math with those prices. Thanks a lot

@@matthewyabsley Here I am, based on your principles and the following data:
      Red diesel 15 p Kwh
      Gas 10 p kwh
      Electricity 30p kwh and...
      Diesel generator efficiency 30%
5 yo Gas boiler no less than 80%
      Electricity heater 95%
The real cost per kwh is:
      Diesel gen 50p
      Gas 12p
      Electricity 31p
Thanks for the huge tip on your previous comment! It opened my eyes!

I have a canopy at the back of our house and there was an extractor fan hole already cut into the wall so I stuck the heater there and works a treat.
