"Yes, Trump is immune, but this is a special situation somehow that's not applicable to anybody else." That way, they wouldn't have to also give Biden complete immunity. Make the Supreme Court and all federal judges elected offices! And require equal numbers of all parties in all legislatures, for fair legislation. Disbar all Justices and federal judges for decisions that violate human/civil rights! Same with Republican politicians, including Presidents!

I listened to the entire hearing yesterday and it was indeed grueling. Marc is right - some of them literally stated that they didn’t want to speak to the facts of this particular case but instead talk about potential future cases. HOW CAN AMERICA GET THESE TRAITORS OFF THE BENCH???
you dont understand, unlike a lower trial court, the Supreme Court always think about potential future effect of interpretation of the constitution. That is their job. that is why they accept cases for review.

@@jonathanbuzzard1376 Refusing to hear a case that simply has no merit on its face _does_ put it to rest, because it signals that similar cases in the future are meritless and we should not be entertaining the idea that a President can be absolutely immune from having to obey the law like everyone else.

For the first time in my life, after listening to the oral Supreme Court arguments yesterday, I can say I’ve lost all faith in the SC. Astounding an attorney can verbally acknowledge it’s ok for a President to stage a coup, and most of the justices sat quietly.

(And yes, Hertzberger said she doesn't want to change anything to their care, but you don't use the highly controversial Cass Review for your "concerns" if you want to change nothing, along with LITERALLY asking for a database of transchildren and asking for their medical information to be shared with politicians, because politicians are much much better at judging about treatment than an endocrinologist..)

The U.S. Presidential Oath of Office: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Absolute immunity would allow them to completely disregard their oath of office. The whole idea is so absurd and ridiculous. Incredible that they’re wasting so much time on this “case” that’s akin to the most frivolous lawsuit of all time. It’s a pretty sad state of affairs. 😢

As a Brit I cant believe how corrupt your SCOTUS is. The selection system needs to change.
I agree 1,000% as an American, but to what? In our elections Federal Elections, the person with the most campaign money wins 90% of the time, and SCOTUS made dark money (you can't trace it) legal, so electing them would be as much of a sh*tshow as our Congressional elections. Any citizen group would likely be made up of Washington DC rich insiders who would still pick corrupt Justices. I am all ears if you have a better idea.

Biden can do it via executive order I believe. BUT he won't. Because it ain't in him. Typical problem with democrats. They are like the bullied kid in the playground. The bully is the republican.
If they rule in favor of unlimited presidential immunity, he could simply have them rounded up and dealt with in any way he decides. If we're going to grant the president that type of power, he could easily have the members of the court detained at gitmo and summarily appoint a replacement court of his choosing. This is the pandora's box of executive immunity. Biden would essentially become dictator by edict of the court.
From an European point of view I only could say, you should - if you could - reform your complete judicial system. The "Trump-Case" shows in a very brutal way all the weaknesses of your system including the "bought" judges in SCOTUS.

Not a single Justice was buying the concept of a president having immunity, whether for official acts or personal. They just weren't having it. Not one of them. They made it clear, ALL of them, that NO president has EVER had, or needed immunity, they don't have it now and they don't think a president should ever have it. THAT was abundantly clear. Alito and Gorsuch seemed to two of the biggest fighters AGAINST the mere idea of immunity. I was shocked!
As for kicking this back to the lower court, I didn't get that sense, either. I got the sense they were presenting hypotheticals of potential OTHER cases, and then only to determine if any charges filed were in fact a crime, but even in their hypotheticals, they answered their own questions and came to the conclusion that ultimately NO ACT by a president, if it breaks the law in our nation, could, would or should be immune from prosecution. Any law.
I'm not sure why there seems to be reporting like we're hearing here, it makes no sense. As for the justices saying they didn't want to hear about the facts of THIS case, it's because in the course of their questioning it had already been made clear that the acts alleged in Jack Smith's indictment were NOT official acts, that they WERE personal acts and therefore WERE subject to prosecution and NOT acts that could EVER be considered immune from prosecution.
Listen to the hearing. The whole thing. It's worth it, and it sure made me feel better.
