  • It was a major week at the U.S. Supreme Court. The term ended with one of the high court's most consequential cases: whether a former president could be immune from prosecution for official actions taken while in office. In Trump v. United States, the former president argues that absolute immunity protects him from charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Earlier this week, the court also considered whether laws criminalizing homelessness classify as cruel and unusual punishment. Justices also heard arguments on union protections in a challenge from Starbucks against a lower court decision to reinstate seven baristas in Memphis, who were fired after they announced plans to unionize.
