Thanks! :) Actually, I bought this Ikarus from the man who appears in this video. The bus belonged to his father, who was the driver on technical service buses in Tartu bus company, Estonia. The father died a couple of years ago, but before that he had brought this bus to his private property. So, this bus was also used for technical services and yes, there was quite a mess when we started to remove it. The whole salon was full of old stuff, e.g. tyres, pipes, clothes, oil canisters and so on.
Well, I have dreamed of buying an Ikarus for a long time already, since from my childhood. In my hometown, Ikarus-buses were withdrawn 10 years ago and then I was a bit too young for having my own bus. I remember when Tartu's yellow Ikaruses were taken to scrap metal yard in 2003 and most of them were transported there by this particular bus. A year ago I found this Ikarus on a website, saying to be sold. Otherwise it would have been sent to scrapyard as well. So, now I'm a bus owner. :)
Tore video, selline nostalgia tuli peale.90-date alguses sai isegi Ikarus 260 rooli keeratud.
Tere-tere! :) Yes, this bus is from Tartu and the material has been shot quite close to Tartu, where the bus has been stayed for some years. This Ikarus was re-built to a technical service bus already in the middle of the 80's. (I have a photo of this bus dated to 1987 where it was already re-built.) In Tartu, last Ikarus 260's and 280's were withdrawn in 2002 (I don't know the exact date), in Tallinn 19.02.2003.
Originally, this Ikarus had 3 doors, but the third one is closed, because the bus has been re-built to a technical service bus. I'm not exactly sure whether it is 260.00 or 02, but according to the factory label the bus has been built in 1982.

Chudesnyy dym vykhodit.
Good! :-) She will live once again. Nowadays, the hungarian Budapest Transport Company withdraws these proud last ones of an era in greater number, as a whole new Mercedes batch has arrived. So it's time to buy them in one piece and get spare parts till they are exist! The buses itself mostly in hard-used condition, engines would deserve a renew, but still working-can go anywhere with enough engine oil and coolant. If anybody needs info, translate, or technical documents about engine and auxiliaries, maybe i can help.
they were standard busses for many years during cccp times and later `russia. `but Hungary wanted valuta for their busses. so, Moscow built their own. GAZ, LIAZ, MAZ and they are well worth all the effort they put behind.
living the dream, huh. Nice, man, thank you for sharing your story! It would be cool to see more from you and what you made out of your bus ;) I will subscribe you :P
Tere päevast :) Mina armastane Eesti Ikarus - Sorry for my Estonian, but can I ask, where is this bus from? I can see Vabaduse pst on the front table so I guess Tartu - in 2007 I just saw poor Conectos and O405 there... As Tallinn, Tartu should have changed the Ikarus 200 models early to an other... Am I right?
There isn't any point to restore the bus, because the body's condition is quite bad, but I wanted to buy another bus in a better condition and keep this one as a "donor" for spare parts. The bus still exists, so I'm looking forward to shoot some new footage with it.
Tere, seltsemees! Vinge buss ;) 1. If a runaway happends, how do you plan stopping her? Does this model have emergency stop switches in cockpit ceiling? 2. Can ir still drive, at least for a few meters?
Tere, seltsimees! On tõesti vinge! :) 1. There is a button on the dashboard for switching off the engine and we tested it several times. 2. It can still drive and the bus was able to drive out from the "parking place" without any assistance, but we didn't stop before reaching on the bigger road, as we were afraid of getting stuck. The bus took a ride of 3-4 kilometers before it was coupled with a truck.
Thank you very much Is it diesel or petrol engine ? If oil, do you have automatic or manual choke ? And in what years were this kind of bus built ? Greetings
beulze This bus is equipped with a diesel engine Raba-MAN D2156 (6 cylinders, 10.35 liters, 192 HP). I don't know about choke, but I suppose it should be manual as it is a quite old-fashioned engine, which history goes back to 1950's. Production of Ikarus 260's started in 1971 and it lasted until 2002. This particular bus was built in 1982.
+Schmidt54 The reasons are very simple mister. The Raba 2156 engine is a licence-built german MAN engine. The bus itself was made in that era when there were no CAD/CAM, so the engineers put their best knowledge to design it, making it one of the best buses on the Earth. Some of these still working in Budapest as BKV-buses.
LOL i did enjoy this video. but what the hell did you use it for? that bus is a mess lol did someone live in it, or was it some kind of a replacement for you're house's basement?
+Danut Plesu There isn't any point to restore the bus, because the body's condition is quite bad, but I wanted to buy another bus in a better condition and keep this one as a "donor" for spare parts. We had to remove the bus from its original place, because the former owner needed to clear the yard. Only a couple days later we took the bus away from there to Tartu, and it stays there even now.
Martin Männik I now see that the video is from 3 years ago...Can you make an update video about the bus, or what is left of it? I used to ride this Ikarus buses to high school in the 90's. They were quite good comparing to the local make of buses. I liked them. Thanks for the reply.
+Danut Plesu Thanks for your interest! Ikarus is also my nostalgia from the 90's. Quite a robust character and nice design compared to the modern buses. Some other people have also asked to see the latest footage of the bus - hopefully I'll manage to make it during the spring. I'm mostly away from the bus, and to make the recordings I need some better video equipment which I haven't yet purchased.
Aga kust tead, et just 01? :P Mis on 01 tunnusjooned? Näiteks enamikul Google'i fotodest on 01 kitsaste õhuakendega. Samas on mul see punktijärgne numeratsioon siiamaani ebaselge...
Ikarus is from Hungary. Some components, for example engine, originates from Germany (MAN factory), but it is still manufactured in Hungary under license (Raba-MAN).
Here in Estonia only a few Ikaruses were with turbo charger, so for me the sound of a regular D2156 is very familiar and authentic. But of course, turbo would make it sound even more fun. :)
Raske uskuda, et keegi hakkaks bussil lihtsalt niisama tervet aknaringi välja vahetama.
These Ikarus buses was what I rode to get to school. I loved sitting in front and observing the driver operating it.
I swear this is one the best sounding diesels I've ever heard :D
Thanks! :)

Yep. A (female) friend of mine also noticed those flowers as the first important detail... :)

Seda bussi pole tänaval liiklemiseks enam tõesti mõtet korda teha. Asi läheks mõttetult kalliks, sest kere on tal lääbakile vajunud ning tagumine ots ringi ehitatud. Sama raha eest saaks piiri tagant mõne enam-vähem komplektse isendi. Ainus argument taastamiseks võiks olla väljalasekaasta, sest 80.ndate alguse Ikarusi (ja vanemaid) on isegi Venemaal vähe säilinud. A jó kis 260-as Ikarus mindent túlél.

A Rába gyár működik.
I'd change the sparkplugs, if I were you........ That thing runs terrible !!!
LOL
That engine doesn't have them... :) Diesel!
Martin Männik YES....... I already know that
I WAS TEASING !!!!!!!!
There was someone living in the bus ?
No, it was just someone's warehouse full of random stuff.

İncredible steam engine
0:37 what a fart the bus is
What is name of this motor?
Raba-MAN D2156 HM6U.
Is that Straight pipe on the video or with the mufflers?
The muffler is missing, that's why the engine makes such a loud noise. Originally there should be a muffler as well.
I dont ascertain the motor. Is it V12? or Inline 6 cylinder?
It is an inline engine with 6 cylinders: 10.35 liters, 192 hp, 695 Nm.
wich camera did you use?
I used a Canon EOS 550D with a Canon 18-55mm kit lens.
with built-in mic?
Yes, with a built-in mic. Amazingly good sound quality, thanks to windless weather.
that is true))
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaat sound :3
