As a 76 year old RN - we are all so very different. Do not be too hard on yourself if you are having difficulties. Your psyche, your body, and your heart must all be working together for any results to appear. Seek help - if you are overweight - but always be balanced in your approach. It is up to you to make a decision about your health. God bless you all. ❤
Great advice!
"Your psyche, your body, and your heart must all be working together for any results to appear." Not really. It's more the ventro-medial lobe of your hypothalamus and your vagus nerve!
when will the hrt video be posted
Yes, no two of us are alike! There is no one cookie cutter protocol for all.
Angie, I'm a senior fitness specialist.. The heavier weights I always push seniors to do, progressive overload training IS great for over 50, despite what some say. I've seen great results. However I would be careful about jumping, 20 jumps a day on concrete could absolutely injure someone with knee/hip issues they may not even be aware of. I would highly recommend REBOUNDING on a mini-tramp instead for those who are nervous about jumping
Thank you for this advise. This is much needed input on this subject.
I rebound every day! So healthy for your body and your lymphatic system.
@andreacastelli6296 I have a reformer rebounder, where you jump lying down, will you get the same benefits to bone strength jumping on that, as you are laying down...I feel maybe you are not putting the needed weight into it?
I like heavy weights for my bones. I seemed to gain in my spine so I'm still doing what is "heavy" for me, what stresses the bones. I feel strong at 64
Thank you for this vital info. Angie..can you recommend a good anti inflammatory diet/recipe book??? I've had my eye on a few but not sure.
i had to watch this THREE times. first time i wasn't listening because my depression and self defeatism reared up. second time i was arguing that "this can't work for me, Angie is thin" third time i could FINALLY hear the kindness in Angie's voice as she said "baby steps". thank goodness i am OLDER and can recognize when i am "stoopid". good luck to ALL on this roller coaster of life....
Aww. Keep going. Just change 1 thing a month. Yes I said a MONTH. Pick if it's you want to walk every evening or do some yoga or go to park more often or exersicw what ever it is if you incorporate just 1 thing a month that will be 12 a YEAR changes
Start slowly. Even if it’s 10 mins a day.
We are our worst enemy when we criticize ourselves. Be kind to yourself ❤

I moved from Rome, Italy to the States 20 years ago. I kept my Mediterranean diet as I never developed a liking for the food here. I am so glad for it as I never had a problem with high cholesterol or high blood pressure. What we eat is really important to our overall health.
There's a lot more to American food than fast, junk food.
@@Himmiefanexactly, just walk into a decent grocery store😱people act like american cuisine is a bucket of kfc and that's all that's available.
👍🏽
@@Himmiefani think the problem is a lot of youtube creators use premade ingredients in their videos. That distorts the view of outside of America. I watched some videos recently and the lady used a can of this, packet of that. Its not how i cook. Canned pumkin. Ive seen real pumkins but bever canned. These people who do these videos give the wrong ideas out. Social media distorts.
Great video Angie. I am 60 and had a DEXA scan about 18 months ago and it showed osteoporosis in hip and spine. I went on HRT (and started weight-lifting and taking supplements under guide of endocrinologist) and just recently had a repeat DEXA scan and it showed bone mineral density has improved about 9%. So it definitely IS possible to improve bone health. Now I am going to start increasing my weights. Thank you.
I maintain my weight by doing intermittent fasting (no breakfast) and eating minimal carbs/sugar and no alcohol. Intermittent fasting has numerous benefits including autophagy which means the body repairs damaged cells. I follow Eric Berg, Andrew Huberman and Stephen Guidry for health/diet advice. Be careful with tuna, folks, as it contains mercury. Best wishes to everyone out there. Once you give up sugar, you no longer crave it.
Congrats! That is a significant gain in bone.
So true about the sugar!!! ❤
Came here to say that weight training definitely made a difference in my scan! I didn't start weights until I had a base scan which showed osteopenia, around mid 40s. Two years later after doing weights (and even not super seriously,) the scan showed zero osteopenia. I'm a believer! And I follow those same folks as well! ;-) I'm 60 now, lifting much more consistently and I know I'm doing all I can to help my future self.
Can you tell us what supplements you took? Thanks!
@@shar7508 Hi, I only just saw this. I take 4000iu Vitamin D (as oral spray) and 90 micrograms Vitamin K2 (in liquid form) for bone health. K2 takes calcium out of the blood and puts it in the bones. Also take magnesium. You can’t “overdose” on magnesium as you just pee out any excess. Magnesium has so many functions in body and is important for bone health. Stress depletes it. Hope this helps. Oh and I just ordered a 5 kg weighted vest to wear when I go for walks to add impact on bones. Best wishes.
It’s a lot harder when you have to cook for your family, especially a husband who works in construction and has a huge appetite and will not eat the same thing everyday, I’m overweight, and try so hard to find time to workout, but it’s a struggle
I completely understand. My husband has a very fast metabolism. I cook for him and me. I have a side of my veggies and then eat the same meat. I rarely eat pasta or bread. It is hard but I want to make me a priority.
I had similar challenges. But then it dawned on me that my husband was perfectly capable of preparing his own meals if he wanted something different than what i was preparing.
I was a vegetarian for 8 years and had a family to feed that wasn’t. It’s really mind over matter. I would just set aside things from their meal before adding in all of the sauces, seasoned, cheese, etc and prepare mine differently, the meat, veggies, etc. It’s not as hard as people think it is. Especially when you eat like this you have less extra ingredients than when you’re making the other meals. 👍🏼
my husband has to have beef or pork, he likes big meals with casseroles and such. Very hard eating salads all the time for me.
This is so true
I am a 74-yr old, 5'9" 122 lbs. and have followed your channel mainly for the fashion tips but this video is 100% Right On! I have been a long distance cyclist and runner in the past but after about 65 yrs of age, I started hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking and taking fitness classes and Pilates. The fitness class works on balance and strength. I am so pleased you made this video with links to the physicians. Already I can see a number of things I need to modify and don't feel so pressed to maintain a one our a day exercise routine 7-days a well. Thanks for all you do! (Still looking forward to your Spring '24 Look-book)
I'm turning 40 this year and found these tips super helpful! ❤ looking forward to more education on aging as gracefully and slowly as I can.
I’m glad you mentioned Dr. Mary Claire Haver. I encourage everyone to follow her. Everything she says is firmly rooted in science and the latest studies. Her Instagram and videos are very informative and often very funny. She is very direct and gives you all the facts! She also has tips on how to use the current research to talk with your own doctor.
I love her! She has completely changed the way I was thinking about perimenopause and menopause!
I love her as well! She's so informative and makes things easy to understand. I lost 25 pounds this past year just by making a few of the changes she recommended!
I've been into health and fitness forever, and have tried all sorts of diets. I realized also that the overlap is basically whole, natural foods. Fish, some lean meat, leafy greens, some fruit (whole form- NEVER JUICE). I also keep sugar to under 25 grams a day. It is easy to do when you just eat whole foods. I also don't drink my calories! black coffee, black or green tea, water, sparkling water- that's it.
Great tips -- but don't forget STRETCHING! I'm a former gymnast, turning 70 this year, and 15 minutes of intense stretching pre- and post-weights are a must. As we get older, we have to work twice as hard yet eat half as much just to maintain, but it's so worth it! 🏋♀
Stretching is not for everyone. I have hyper mobility and always stretched because thats what people tell you to do.... it wasnt until many injuries later and working with a dr of physical therapy (had other PTs in the past who weren't good) , who told me stretching is detrimental for HM people. Never even put those 2 together. He introduced me to foam rolling and told me to focus on this and no more stretching. I havent gotten anymore injuries and don't try to push myself to stretch anymore.
Nothing better than a good stretch.
I am sure that is very true for you. I was a ballet dancer and was told the same at one point. I had to build strength instead but everyone is built differently. Most people that are my age (68) are so very stiff. They need to work on both! At least we have one thing out of the way :) @@jasl9987
that's incorrect information, I'm sorry to tell you. I was a gymnast, also told i have hypermobile hips. If you're very mobile, you need more strength to insulate and protect that as you will be prone to injury. Not stretching isnt the way to go.. strength training and stretching is. Our body is made up of fascia that gets tighter if we do not move it..by stretching. Not stretching is a great way to have a really bad time in your 80s.. @@jasl9987
Yoga is my favourite exercise except walking.
Y'all don't forget MEDITATION which also reduces cortisol. It's good to be physically healthy, but don't forget that stress is the #1 inflammation producer! Also, any exercise other than swimming or cycling is considered weight-bearing. Walking, is weight-bearing and helps your bones, too. Just wanted to clear that up!
Love mediation. 🙏
What a wonderful vid Angie - for me informative and affirmative. I'm 72, and over the last two years in an effort to help control stress, high blood pressure and the effects of arthritis. I have taken on a diet and exercise regimen suggested to my by a physical therapist. With simple portion control I have lost about 35 pounds and lowed my overall blood pressure considerably. Your vid helps give me direction to take it to the next level. Thanks for the info and the validation that I am on the right track!
Keep up the good work Kris!
As a physical therapist myself, I'm so happy to hear that!!! Great job!!
Hi Angie! I’m 55 and I hit menopause a few months ago. Thank you for this excellent video as I agree with your diet and exercise implementations. I have been exercising regularly for 12 years using weights and doing cardio. I agree that low impact definitely helps keep my weight down and lifting weights helps to keep me strong. When I was doing high intensity cardio I desired to eat more which was counterintuitive to maintaining my weight. I appreciate your knowledge to lift as heavy as you can and I’ll be making a conscious effort to do so. Thanks again and have a great day!❤
so nice to hear , i began my diet four years ago and i can not imagin my life without it today. I turn 57 this year and i feel so good, i wish everybody could be awar that nutrition is so very impartant for us
Please could you share your diet.would inspire me to change mine
Hello!@@vanitagomes3794 but of course i can tell a little about my diet, . At first i tell you what we dont eat , we do not consume processed oils, we dont eat gluten or lactose, we dont eat soy produkts and of course sugar!( i eat some cookies when its a party...) sugar is not good for our health at all, (thay say sugar feeds cancer) But I eat fish, shellfish and eggs and ( very important ) my fasting window is between 18 and 20 h a day
Thank you for this. I turn 50 in October and I have decided this year I will change my life. I just got on HRT & began a movement routine at the gym. I’m taking this year to work on my fitness routine, so this video was super informative. Can’t wait for what else you have in store.
I’m so glad you talked about lifting heavy. I work with a trainer and have had lifelong autoimmune joint pain. Controlling the weights without jerking has been important. It’s better to focus on large groups of muscles, like legs or lats vs smaller muscles like biceps or triceps. Lifting very heavy for fewer repetitions also helps.
Thank you for directing us to Dr. Mary Claire Haver! Very helpful for menopause, she is passionate and has the smarts and research knowledge!
Menopause Barbie, AKA Dr. Barbara Taylor says intermittent fasting is a horrible fad.
Thanks for the video! I've been eating and exercising like this since I was a teen - I'm 60 now and live in a 55+ Active Senior Community. I can't tell you how many people I've met here who ask me whether I'm visiting my mother or my father! It's absolutely amazing what healthy living can do!
Love this!!! ❤
I started eating two meals a day and stopped snacking unless on fruit 3 weeks ago. I am really seeing some results. I also exercise 5 days a week now with some resistance training now I am over 60.😊
Even though I complained about genetics and body -I really do want to thank you for this. I’m frustrated because I have a lifetime of fitness and healthy eating, and being naturally limb, as they would , and I still gained not only pounds, but lumpiness, and a change in shape that I did not expect after menopause. But all this information and encouragement is extremely helpful. Increasing weight when lifting is something I’ve been hearing a lot-do less reps and more muscle fatigue. So thank you, Angie.
❤
I’ve eaten healthy for years and juice and do yearly detox and after 50 my stomach kept bloating and bloating and getting worse and worse and I had inflammation then I would start itching like crazy - turns out I needed to limit foods with lectins. After eating a better healthy diet the stomach flattened in days - ten pounds of inflammation fell off my body in a week and I am not getting sick as much and I am back to my normal weight! The lectin free diet has changed my life !!!! I also incorporate digestion massage including my ileocaecal valve. The digestion massage will
Also change your life.
That's so interesting with the Itching. Same thing is happening to me. Thank you for sharing what's helped you!
Where can I find info on the digestion massage
The itching is most likely from high histamine foods.
Google which those are..for example spinach! anything aged or fermented, Etc. Best antihistamine for hives and itching is hydroxyzine. It will change your life. By rx, extremely inexpensive.
I just started working out with a former professional bodybuilder, I’ve always lifted and occasionally lift heavy but now I’m working out smarter and the muscle development and definition is amazing. I wish I’d started years ago.
Do you follow anyone on Instagram you’d recommend?
I follow some RUclips workout channels.
Burpee Girl and Burpee Gurl Shorts, Jessicasmithtv, I also subscribe to her digital work out program, Justin Agustin, he is fabulous for just getting moving again. I relied on his gentle workouts when I was recovering from Lyme disease.
I don’t follow this person on social but she has a really good subscription program, Cathe Friedrich.
Great advice! I do believe genetics play an enormous role and at 59, I'm also lean and I am certain my genes have a significant role in that. Yes, I avoid fried foods and desserts but I don't follow any workout routine at all. I try to stay active but it's not something I schedule and it seems to be working. Common sense and moderation.
Genetics definitely plays a role but I think making the right choices is what helps most, especially post menopause!
I agree...have thyroid / parathyroid problems...I fast on protein/ veg shakes Tuesday and Thursday (like under 500 calories) Walk 4 miles in hour with high intensity intervals..m,W,F...Eat whatever I want Sat night to Sunday afternoon/ morning.Weights 20 to 30 min Tues and Thursday keeping Carbs around 75 m,w.f...
And I rarely get below size 8/10 ...hearty peasant stock....150 to 160 at 5'6 and shrinking
..
It's a trip getting old..fight fight fight move move move.

One of my favorite quotes, not sure whos said it, "genetics load the gun, lifestyle pulls the trigger"
I can look at bread and gain 10 lbs. I just tell myself if I ever have scarce food times, them my body will be well off😅.
Angie, I initiated the menopause conversation with my doctor after seeing your video with Dr. Barbie a few years ago and then started educating myself. The patches have been life changing and have increased my mental clarity in addition to sleep quality. Thanks for bringing such a critical topic to our attention and encouraging us to be our own advocates. ❤
Thanks Angie. I definitely need to make small changes and also have a more positive outlook.
I have to say the information in this video is spot on! I am 54, postmenopausal x5 years, and I follow this same approach to diet and exercise. I do not have belly fat, and my waist size has remained the same at 24 inches. I am not trying to toot my own horn here, only confirming, based on personal experience, that these lifestyle choices do work. ❤
Toot your own horn! Don’t censor yourself because other people won’t be able to cope. That’s THEIR problem.
@@StrideOrDie71Seriously! She should toot all day long! Very impressive and a lot to be proud of.

Hi please could you share your diet and exercise routine I'm 50 and struggling to change. I'm 3 years into menopause with problems like no sleep ,frequent urination at night, fatigue, intolerance to cold and heat etc etc.
Genetics also matter. And a host of other factors.
62 next month, I have been a runner since my early 30’s. Very hard to wrap my head around keeping my HR in zone 2, that just a fast walk. Weight training has been great, picked up a set of 15 lbs last week. Lots of great videos to follow on you tube. Told my husband this morning I want to be like Angie ❤ Thanks for all the great info!
I only use my 15 pound dumbells for biceps and triceps now. For most everything else I've graduated to 20lb. dumbells, but for deadlifts, 25lbs. I went from deadlifting my 30 pound kettlebell to deadlifting my two 25lb. dumbells, and also I changed from straight leg deadlifts to bent knee deadlifts, because it works more of the posterior chain.
Also I added more full body exercises, such as thrusters, which require both concentration and pure unadulterated grit.
People define Zone 2 differently, I use 70-80% of max heart rate (for me it's 120-137) OR exertion level, the ability to have a conversation while doing it BUT it would be very uncomfortable, I follow advice of Dr Peter Attia
@@RQF5961 I like Dr. Peter Attia as well.
How do you ensure you don't bulk with the new muscle protruding the fat layer.
Dr. Mindy Pelz is also extremely knowledgeable about menopause and it’s impact on women. She is also an expert on fasting and has really helped me drop stubborn fat.
there is no doubt you have taken great care of your body, and have educated yourself in the field of health and wellness. This was the first video, I have seen from your channel.
All the best and thank you for passing your knowledge on to all the women on your channel
Angie, I agree about foods becoming habit forming. I eat healthy and have difficulty sticking with an exercise routine. You always look so fit and gorgeous. I look forward to your HRT update. Have a great weekend! xo
Happy Friday Christine!
OMG 🤯! I am a RN who has always been very health conscious and fit. But PERI-MENOPAUSE! The change in my body composition, despite continuing my regular fitness and diet routines was so frustrating. Weight has never been an issue for me, but body composition change has been dramatic since age 50. These doctors that you recommended following are such great resources for our information arsenals. Can’t thank you enough!
Hi Angie, thank you for sharing these tips, I think they’re all very helpful and important. I especially love Dr. Sims! I read her book Roar a few years ago and was blown away.I am so glad you featured her on your list. After reading what Dr. Sims wrote, I promised myself to improve my lifestyle even more than I had after my son was born and add in lifting heavy. My home gym was finally ready to start lifting in early December last year (that project took four years to come to fruition). Overhead presses are hard for me with my long arms, but I keep at it. Other lifts like squats and deadlifts are easier. I deadlifted 135# yesterday! I am 41, 5’10” and 155#, and in decent fitness level but excited for more. If I can do it, with exercise-induced asthma and arthritis in my hands and feet, just about anyone can. And it’s fun to surprise people with what we can do! Sometimes we women can be our own limiting factor, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Take care and I look forward to more your content.
Hi Angie, thank you for great video, helpful tips and great resources from professionals. Especially loved when you said take baby steps!! One little thing at a time! ❤ Thanks
Definitely baby steps otherwise it can be overwhelming. I'm happy I've cleaned up & improved my routine a little each year! xo ~a.
This video was so motivating! Thank you. I look forward to more videos about diet and well being.
Such a great video! I have been lifting heavy and trying to eat as clean as possible for the past two years. Definitely feeling great at 62 years old. One book that I really liked and had a lot of good information was Next Level by Stacy Sims. 💪🏻❤
Please share your diet and exercise as an inspiration for me I'm struggling
This is very helpful. I am a breast cancer patient. I also had my overies taken out and from one day to another I was in my menopause. I am still young and the change to my body has really taken its toll.
I did the same when I was diagnosed at 41. Menopause happened overnight. It really did a number on my skin and abdominal area.
Some really good information here. I started about a year ago but eating and exercise alone didn’t seem to make the scale budge. I could tell I had better stamina and was gaining some muscle definition but the scale would not budge or went up slightly. It was incredibly defeating. I worked with my doctor (I’m very lucky because he’s an internal medicine guy who likes to deal holistically with the body and not just treat symptoms) and at the end of the day he concluded that cortisol was my enemy due to a lot of stress in my life. So, just a shout out of encouragement to those in their 50s or older (or younger) that sometimes the scale isn’t your friend but non-scale victories are there. I’m under his treatment and weight has started coming off but I do eat pretty well and I exercise at a gym 3-4 times a week for 45-90 minutes. It’s work and there are no magic pills. Keep at it! Took my 6-months to see results! Hang in there!
Thank you so much for your comment. I'm 45 and made a bunch of positive changes in my diet and exercise and stuck to it for 9 months. Absolutely no change in my weight. None of what worked in my 30's is working now. I am going to add more strength training and also meditation as I think stress is also a factor for me. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Keep going and hooray for the non-scale victories. They are important too.
Congratulations! This is awesome!
IF worked for me. I lost 38 pds 3 years ago after hanging on to it most of my 50s. Dr Becky on youtube had some easy fasts, 12 hours, then i bumped to 13 and 14. Skipped breakfast except for 2 cups of coffee with cream. My body melted stomach and I felt so much better. Lowered carbs but not too low and lowered sugar. Stopped eating at 6or 7pm
Thanks for the words of encouragement!!
@@deb9806 -Absolutely! I'm been doing IF for about a year. 8 hour eating window. 16 without eating. I eat all my food between 10am and 6pm. Cut sugar, carbs, lower portions plus more movement and exercise. No weight loss though-but my digestion is a lot better. Glad to hear it has worked for you.
I love the Venn Diagrams!🧡 I love looking at different things and finding the positive things that overlap, so I know where to focus my efforts. Thank you for such a great and informative video!😍
You are seriously such an educated expert on the topics you discuss. Thank you so much.
I also take K2 D3 to increase calcium absorption to bone mass, while preventing arterial calcification.
Me too and I take something called Thera cal
Great information, as usual! I just turned 67 and can attest that a good diet and heavier weights, plus some sort of HIIT works! This has worked to keep my 24" waistline and mobility! Woohoo!
Nice!!!
Awesome! Same for me, but I am only 54! ❤❤❤
Soon to be 68 and long-time follower - cycle 100 miles/week and lift heavy 3 times per week. Welcome to the world. I always worried about your previous exercise vids with the 1-3 lb weights - movement of any kind is great but knew you could be doing so much more. Add Dr. Peter Attia to your viewing and the book ‘Outlive'
LOVE that you mentioned lifting heavier! So many women think lifting heavier will make you bulky but it takes a TON of work to gain muscle (training and getting extra protein). Use it before you lose it ladies!
I’m very active with running, spin bike, and weight training.
You mentioned about jumping…. I bought a rebounder( mini trampoline)
several months ago after reading the benefits of rebounding !!!!
I will be 72 in May 😘
What rebounder brand do you have? Do you like it? Thanks!
Rebounding is great for lymphatic system but shown not to increase bone density sadly
Your way of eating inspires me to incorporate more fish. By accident i discovered that for me wheat based foods contributed to inflammation. I went to visit family out if state and while there ate whatever meals they prepared which were all low carb, kind of Paleo. After a few days i realized that my osteoarthritis and neuropathy symptoms were almost gone. Thar was in the spring of 2021and i have continued that WOE. I will turn 70 this year, and unlike so many friends, i am not on any pain medications, which seem to almost be the new "normal". Thank you for all that you do, Angie. Whenever i get compliments on my skin, I give you credit, including the other day when my dermatologist said my skin looks great.
What do you eat and what exercise do you do also what is your skincare routine like
Great advice, I've been strength training for years and I love it. I wish more of my friends was doing it. Just have to add more protein to my diet. Thanks again Angie ❤
That's awesome! I wish I could get some of my friends on board too but it's not for everyone... wish it was easier. 💜
My body actually is benefited by a little grass feed butter and Ghee (clarified and cultured butter) is really good. And lamb is healing for me (I eat it occasionally) and it's considered healing in India medicine, I believe. And some people actually do well eating beef (Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type has blood type O as the one that does well with a "Carnivore/Caveman diet").
Hey Angie! My husband says you are my double! 😊 I follow your skin care routine too. I am a certified surgical and certified holistic registered nurse. I have always been healthy, thin and physically active and exercise. 2 1/2 years ago, when I surprisingly found out I had high cholesterol, I decided to make changes in my diet so that I would not need to take any statin drugs. After doing a ton of research, I eliminated sugar, processed carbs, fake foods, canola oil, and all see oils. One year later, my Total Cholesterol was normal (went down 32 mg/dL) Normal ApoB. I do not take any medication. High cholesterol can be hereditary, but having a poor diet is not. My diet includes: 100-120 gm of protein daily, wild caught seafood, all organic pasture raised : eggs, beef, chicken. Healthy fats such as avocados, olive oil, avocado oil, pecans, walnuts, coconut oil. Most fruits and vegetables- all organic when I can. (I still eat beef, eggs, bacon, butter and have normal cholesterol) I also IF for 16 hrs. Although I wasn’t looking to loose weight, I lost 10lbs. I may need to adjust IF to 12 hrs too so I can get enough protein & gain a few more pounds! Thank you for all your videos.
I love jumping! I use a rebounder and it is so much fun. Have you ever tried one? Rebounding has so many benefits and it is so much easier on your joints.
I’d like to add that it’s easier for her to maintain (she’s been eating like this since her 20’s) because she hasn’t created a metabolic disease state, and she doesn’t have to work a lot harder than those who have to lose. I know for me, maintaining is so much easier than when I get slack and eat cookies every day over the holidays and then have to lose. That’s not meant as a criticism. It’s something to take into consideration when trying to make changes. Every positive change is a change in the right direction. Have patience.
I eat all that you mentioned and exercise with weight training, cardio and Pilates. Take ERT, supplements, sleep,, meditate and yet still am struggling with weight gain no one can figure it out. So this is not a magic formula for everyone. And yes I’ve read Mary Claire Haver book and the Estrogen window and Barbara Taylor. All great drs
Great information, Angie! I gave up all added sugar (and artificial sweeteners, and alcohol), all refined starches and processed food a month ago, and have found it much easier than I thought it would be. I can now 'listen to my body', because it is telling me the truth about whether I am hungry or not. I feel great, sleep better, and I know it is doing me so much good. Give it a try! I had such a sweet tooth, and now am just not interested.
Same here! Don't miss it! Don't need it! ❤
So glad you mentioned HRT. I think it is a huge part of staying healthy, fit, and feeling good in perimenopause and beyond.
I just started rebounding 2 months ago and I love it! It is fun but boy is it a great workout! Rebounding is great for your whole body.
i go for long walks and have a very physical job. i need to start lifting weights again though. you are a very diligent person Angie!
Thanks so much, Angie. You're right that it is good that we're talking more about menopause...and part of that is you. Thanks for being fearless...with your content, your YT moniker, and sharing your life. As a woman who works out daily, eats right, and considers herself healthy, I've been horrified with my weight gain since entering perimenopause. Doctors have reinforced that I have a healthy bmi and that weight gain is normal. Normal or not, healthy bmi or not, I'm not happy with the way my clothes are fitting. I hold a PhD, so I appreciate your science-backed approach. I'm checking into probiotics now to help get rid of the visceral fat. Just wanted to say that I appreciate you.
Angie you are inspiring! I admire your effort to always tap the subject so professionally! You make the research, you analyze and then you introduce it as a routine with major consistency. I know it takes a lot of self discipline. I think it is all about little daily choices that sum up to great results. Greetings from Poland!
I was just looking up last night exercise for helping seniors jump. I discovered last summer shortly after turning 67 that I can’t jump! I was going to show my granddaughter Chinese jump rope and could not jump! When did that happen?!? So this comes at an amazing time. To all those out there younger than me that think you are ok not to strength train…think again. I start today!!! Thanks Angie. I don’t look bad but I’m no Angie! And I can’t jump! I’ve started tap dancing again (brain to feet problems) and pottery again. Love it. So now I need strength training and learning to jump again! Let’s go!😎✌🏻
I’m 47 and I can’t jump. I ran too many marathons.
Thank you for this video, exactly what I needed. My lab work came back a little high on my cholesterol and sugar 3 months ago, I completely changed my diet not only did I get my numbers down, I shed 12 lbs., really happy about that. I still need to get my numbers down and keep them there. I need more recipe ideas can’t wait to hear yours. Thank you!!
You got this!
I've been following you and your advice since i turned 30. 7 years later and I'm still doing so much of what you've suggested. 😅 i know I'm young, relatively, but i feel old and want my body to be as capable as it can be when i am 61. Thank you for all you share!
The best “diet” is an individualized approach. I’m 61, lift heavy and follow a meat based diet and I’ve never been healthier. Nothing wrong with bacon & beef, but not from McDonalds! Seed oils drive inflammation as well.
How much is “heavy weights”? I’m same age but not sure how much to lift.
@@jackieparrish7088what is your experience with strength training? Start with lower weight and if you can do more than 12-15 reps, try increasing the weight. Do you have access to a commercial gym or are you doing home workouts?
@@jackieparrish7088 it depends on your starting point. I’ve been lifting for years so I have the strength to lift heavy. Just takes trial and error!
Great info!! You always give us such great information!
I'm 71 now and it just kills me that none of this was around to help my age group through menopause. My doctor won't even consider estrogen because of my age. Apparently stroke possibilities go up dramatically. But I'm wondering in your research if you have ever heard of someone my age being prescribed estrogen. What are they saying for us? Believe it or not, you'll be my age before you know it!
I do lift pretty heavy and exercise regularly. But I'm going to try a couple of my exercises with heavier weights.
Thank you!
HI, I'm 66 and have been using BIO-Identical estrogen/progesterone for 10 years. Since the hormones come from plants, there are absolutely no health risks. The bad news that doctors just repeat over and over to women about HRT is based on women who took synthetic hormones! But no one explains that fact. My gyn is 71 years old, and we, together work out the exact ratio that is best for me. It is custom made as a cream. Please educate yourself and enjoy!
@@newenglandgirl9523 This is WONDERFUL information!!
I feel like as I get older that my girlfriends and I are just forgotten. Like we don't matter anymore. No matter how vibrant and young we feel and live our lives. Crazy! We want to look and feel beautiful and be healthy too!
I will take this info. to my doctor and see what she says. I no longer have a gyn but might have to find one. Thanks!! :)
Hi Debra, the doctors I follow talk about a 10-year window of opportunity for HRT meaning that you can start HRT if it's been less than 10 years since becoming post-menopausal or your last period. Most women go through menopause in their 50s so the mid to early 60s is usually the end of the window of opportunity to start HRT. People who start HRT within the 10-year window can stay on it well into their 70s, 80s & beyond. Hope that helps! 💜
Yes, it helps very much. Thank you Angie!!
I just started listening to Dr. MaryClair Haver, she is so informative!
I turned 50 last year (three years post-menopausal) and was also diagnosed with breast cancer, so no hormone therapy for me (unless you count the estrogen blocker I have to take now). 😕. Thankfully, the one I take is protective of bone health.
Great video Angie! ALL great advice, however...what do the good doctors advice for us post menopausal women who have had mastectomies and cannot lift heavy --or bounce for that matter (I was an athlete pre diagnosis, so I truly MISS lifting and running!)? Also NO HRTs on the menu. I would be curious to hear advise on that. I'm sure I am not the only one out there. thank you.
Would love to see a follow up Dexa Scan video and a 'spend the day with me' style video where you outline your food & exercise regime all in one. Great content Angie, thank you for sharing 💫
Love this video!!! You are so informative and I appreciate your insight.
What a great video. You’ve inspired me to lift more. Thanks so much. You’re a doll! 💕🌹
Great episode !!!!! Love the content - the how and why… super good info and details! I’m going to add these Dr. to my list ! Have a great weekend Angie
I hope you enjoy their content!! Happy Friday!
I love this week’s video so much! Chock full of useful information and your delivery is so positive and motivating! I’ve made a few of your recipes that you posted on your website and I have to say, they are delicious! And so healthy! Thank you!
Would you please provide a link to the 2 food diagrams for printing? That would be something I would like to keep handy in my kitchen. Thank you!
As always, a realistic, well researched video Angie! Thank you for being such an advocate for all of us “older” women!
You're right, you do get a taste for healthy food eventually. Especially avocados....never really cared for them until I got older.
I’m 58 in March. I’m active but I need to get better especially by weight training. Thank you for this video & the others you e done on health & nutrition!
Love this type of content regarding menopause. I have struggled for a decade and have recently found some things that are working for me. I’m a big believer in healthy diet and exercise. I follow Dr Taylor after watching one of your videos so I’ll check out the other 2 women you recommend. Thank you, Angie!
Thank you for sharing!
Loved this video. Baby steps is the way to go, keep increasing. Don’t beat yourself up when there are setbacks, just start again.
Excellent excellent video ! If all the youtubers were like you, educated and well informed, youtube would be a better place!
Hi Angie, a few months ago I changed my workouts and bought heavier weights, just because I felt like I was going nowhere. I just wanted to feel it the next day. I did just buy some organic quinoa on Amazon, since it is a high protein grain, despite having a bg carb load. I try to eat mostly fat, in the form of coconut, followed by protein and then carbs mostly from stuff like broccoli and sweet potatoes. I do eat bacon from time to time because according to Chronometer, it's about half fat/half protein and less than 1 g of carbs. I don't eat much bread and I never eat cereal anymore. I drink coffee until it's gone, then I drink 3 or 4 huge (500c) mugs of tea. I eat Fage 5% Greek Yogurt every day mixed with some black raspberry powder, since what runs in my family is adenocarcinoma of the lower esophageal sphincter. They did a clinical trial with black raspberry freeze dried powder in the aughts to see if it could prevent the cellular changes that lead to esophageal cancer. RE the Fage, I do love this thick yogurt. But I have started to experiment with plant based yogurts, like Forager, Kite Hill and Silk. Gotta read labels. I do avoid sugar most of the time. If I want sugar, I'll just eat some 78% dark chocolate. I love butter, but I also love Miyokos Vegan European butter, which is a delicious blend of coconut oil and cashew butter. I can change my diet overnight if I learn something new. I am back to Ezekiel sprouted sesame bread (no gluten) on which I spread Miyoko's vegan butter, with half a Hass avocado, two 7 minute eggs, and three slices of thick cut bacon. I know, right? Vegan butter and eggs and bacon. That's post workout. Dinner is usually a piece of steelhead trout or a pork or sirloin burger with sauteed shiitake mushroom, roasted Brussels sprouts and sauerkraut. I seem to be eating an enormous quantity of probiotic foods of late, what with the yogurt, the sauerkraut and the fermented coconut things I freaking love.
Also more than a year ago I added a Plyometric sequence after my strength workouts. I do split jumps, then the hellish jump knee tucks (looking at you, Tony Horton) and then, my favorite, BOX jumps. I do like 240 split jumps, 150 jump knee tucks and 40 box jumps. This is all after I've hiked outside, on the roads, sometimes walking, sometimes jogging, and at points I break out into a run. I think it's funny all the fitness news coming out just now. And I've been doing it all along. Staring down the barrel at 60 this March.
And by my own estimation I do hours of Zone 2 every day. 13.75 mile walk/hike/jog in all kinds of weather. When I work out, it takes me 2 hours, what with the warm up, my lollygagging between sets and my jump training at the end. Then I get on my Peloton Tread and do a 30m hike which is what really makes me sweat.
I think full-fat dairy needs to be re-examined because many are now saying that it's not as bad as it used to be thought of.
It's beginning to look like everything the medical industrial complex told us is a lie.
There's some evidence that full fat dairy can help reduce the risk of diabetes. The fat slows down the glucose spike
Thanks Angie. Great video-I did 20 full jumps before my morning walk and did another 20 after today. Age 57 and under weight-you inspired me to take my health serious. Going to order peloton bikes. Looking forward to the menopause video.
Since my husband passed away in November I must say preparing meals is really hard! When you talked about salmon I am allergic to this and since I take synthorid I have to be careful about eating tofu as it has an effect on my thyroid. I really do concentrate on getting enough protein. I have lost about 20 pounds since I had tongue surgery and the loss of my husband.
Sorry to read about your loss.
I'm so sorry you lost your husband Sue. Sending you a virtual hug. 💜
My husband passed away in November as well. My condolences to you. I get what you say about preparing meals, lost weight and trying to eat more protein (and honestly anything I can stomach) to put it back on. Take care
@@claricestarling4526 My husbands passing was due to an accident on a cruise. He passed away in Switzerland and to say it has been hell to get a death certificate is an understatement as it finally arrived February 5th and he died on November 8th! Our anniversary was February 3rd and it would have been 64 years. It was a great marriage and to say I feel alone is an understatement! I have my church and quilting friends and they have been great but evenings are hard! I know I am not alone in this journey and I send you blessings and prayers.
What a great video. Something for every person to take away. Much appreciated
Hi Angie, such great info! Love when you tie it all together. If it’s simple, it’s easy to remember the center of your diagrams. Great to see the info on all those Drs. Some were new to me. You are aging backwards and look better every day. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your health tips and magic potions. Really enjoyed this video 😘😘
I enjoyed your video. I saw the video you did with Dr. Barbie Taylor so I already follow her but now I have a couple more OB/GYNs to follow on youtube and also a couple other doctors to follow for women health reasons. I was disappointed that you didn't specifically talk about or show how you beat belly fat. You did talk about diet and most exercise but I thought you were going to share a specific exercise that you do to beat belly fat. Overall I did enjoy though.
Lomte viewer here....great advice Angie,! Great that you employed three having weights. I will try to do more of this?😊
Great video! I love incorporating new things into my diet and life. Your cooking videos are so great, excited for more.
Loved this.. will follow these docs. Thanks!
3 yesrs ago I watched a video by Dr Robert Lustig of a speech he gave on sugar. Well! I gave up sugar, alcohol and ultra processed foods one day-done. I am not a “cut back” person. Gotta get it done. My mindset is so clear, I didn’t have any craving. (I thought I would with a glass of wine, or my cookie with my cup of tea at night! But I moved on to having an apple with my tea and lots of water and decaffeinated green tea.) Over the past two years, I have had three or four glasses of wine, and a couple of pieces of cake at different celebrations. But I don’t enjoy it the way I used to and I definitely don’t have any cravings and usually can’t wait to get back to my regular way of eating.
I just got an Apple Watch so I’m going to start with tracking my zone too! Thank you for the tips on that! I’ve heard of it but never really knew how in the world you find out what that is ! I do the jumping. I found out about that a couple of years ago and put that into my daily and weekly workouts. . I had found out I had osteoporosis so I am really diligent about workouts and food and supplements..
I’m 77, 5’4” and 118 lbs.and determined to have a long health span.
It has been recommended that as you age to limit the fasting a bit so you can get in the required nutrition (without relying too much on pills) so I do the same as you..stop eating after dinner (6pm) and resume at 6am. Because our soil is so depleted, the veg and fruits are lacking and (omg what they feed animals!) so tainted.. a good multi and additions are needed. Especially for osteoporosis.
Thanks for this update and information. Loved it!
IF worked for me 3 years ago. I dropped 38lbs from Sept to January, cheating on Thanksgiving, 2 birthdays and Xmas. Lowered sugar, skipped breakfast except for coffee and cream. (eat a light one now) I didn't eat after dinner. Dr Becky on youtube introduced me to lower carb (not keto) and the idea of giving my body a break. It worked so well. My stomach flattened and gas etc just about disappeared. I do exercise too, weights and cardio. I upped weights when back went into osteopenia and it helped. I got up to 20lbs for rows for now. Wake forest is coming out with study on weights for spine this year, they did one for hips in the past and weighted vest (I got hyperwear one recently)
It can. Giving you body time to burn fat, not starving it but just giving it a break. I found 14-16 hours worked well for me. I went to bed by 9 or 10, stopped eating at 7-ish and by 11 or so had lunch or a snack of almonds etc. Slept better, trained myself to get off of crackers and things like that at night. Weight came off 1-2 lbs a week at 60 with a 3-4 pound start with water weight etc.
I love Dr. Becky!!!❤
@@rachelmcgill8143 her voice is so calming. I loved her book and her sensibilities. Other “ fasting” videos etc were so strict. Hers clicked with me.

I am so glad that I am alive in this day and age where there is so much good information about when women are in menopause. Before ,during , and post menopause and how we can have great health .
We want to look and feel our best.
In the past women just suffered.
When I was menstruating and I was having miserable PMS every month. I had a stupid inconsiderate doctor . He said to me.I can't help you anymore than your mother can.
I felt like slapping his face , but I didn't.
I ended my visits with him immediately.
Thank you Angie. I want to start taking some baby steps into all of what you talked about. My job requires a lot of sitting at the computer and my body is weak from that. I'm at a point, age 60, that I want to cut back on work to add more time for personal care and to attend to these things. I appreciate all of your information as always. You look fabulous!!
Hey Angie so glad you mentioned menopause. I had zero symptoms or problems (except DRY skin) but just started HRT for the benefits. I’m 51 also fit, healthy, and single with the appalling 😍long hair. You’re a great example/mentor for me going into these 50+ years!!

This is great!
