What an adorable movie. I'm joining all those that had tears in their eyes. Great story, great acting. Thanks PizzaFlix (again) for providing yet another incredible movie for us!!
John Carroll was such a great actor in this movie, honest I'd never heard of him before. Such a good story, but wanted to see more at the end. Definitely would watch this again, loved it!
Ive been searching for an old film for years.. and i dont know the name of it. The main character is an immigrant called Edward Payback. An ex criminal. The story starts of in a welfare office, where he is accused of quitting his job, although he was fired by his employer unfairly. He demands his rights, but gets no help and told to leave. His life starts to spiral out of control. No money, His wife starts to act up. He resorts to meeting his old mobb friends (for a robbery) whom then betray him after the job. He then goes out to get even with those that set him up whilst trying to save his marriage..
The kid (Bobby) was excellent. John Carroll acts like Clark Gable here. Gable and Lombard actually gave the boy (Martin Spellman) a shot to be in the movies. Oddly, Craig Reynolds plays a guy named Clint Reynolds.
When I first heard the voices (I wasn't actually watching yet) I swore it was Clark Gable. I looked at the face, and it didn't match. I checked the credits and he wasn't there - so I thing you are right in your assessment. There was some Gabling going on!
Heart-warming stuff, with a kid actor who can act. John Carroll is an amazing looking guy, and I thought he was great in Flying Tigers with John Wayne. A nice wee film. I respect the unresolved ending, too - very unusual, and totally perfect.
I almost gave up on the movie several minutes in, as the plot was revealed that the gangster was going to beat the law...but of course he won't. But I kept watching, and the story developed into something wonderful. Enjoy!
When I was a little girl, I would watch mystery cases like this and MoVie tv shows that were made in the 40's too! They would be AiReD in the 60's!🤤😨🍃🌾🍃
I really enjoy this movie, it’s so cute! It’s too-bad that the titles and descriptions during this era tended to be sensationalized - assumedly for increased box-office sales - I’ve found them to be very misleading. …Would have passed this one by, of relying on the title - for example. Thanks for uploading such great flix!
There is a semi-biographical element to this movie, regarding Martin Spellman. He got his start in motion pictures because he'd been discovered at MGM Studios selling newspapers.
The plot was clunky, in accordance with blatant tear-jerkers. The cast followed the script to remain employed and did their personas in accordance to the director. Spellman did the best of it, but he's a child here and more enthusiastic about it. John Carroll, to me, loafed through every role he had in his career That could be the material he was slated in or his own boredom. The others were character actors and did their jobs. One note, Carroll's housekeeper; she was typecast and enjoyed herself. She played a housekeeper or mother in every job she had - iron-clad and identical in every role that you saw here in this film. Same costume, same accent, same everything! That said, I still watched the film. I'm near my eighth decade and watch all these 1930-1949 movies I can. I appreciated the efforts these studios made to create something and I crave the nostalgia I get seeing what I saw in my childhood. Thanks for posting this film.
Im.joining too all those who had tears in their eyes...suchan angel of a child...splendid movie...why put Mcarthur away for a killing he never did...it was an accident...law is blind...nice movie though
I'm sure I could give this a thumbs up if I could comfortably listen while watching... til then, thumbs down & don't expect a speaker to be used to amplify, I shouldn't have to resort to it.......
Dennis Moore over acting as usual, some Three stooges alumni and one of the dopey actor actors who used to over act with Dennis dead end kid serials with a good actor like John Dahl
@PizzaFlix thank you for this wonderful movie. That kid just tore at my heartstrings. Great flick.
Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX . May the Sauce be with you.
Just watched the movie tonight. Went to IMBD. The kid (Martin Spellman) Died 1 year ago this day. He was 94.
*These old movies are time machines, offering a glimpse into a past I never lived in. An unexpectedly touching movie.*

John Carroll was such a great actor in this movie, honest I'd never heard of him before. Such a good story, but wanted to see more at the end. Definitely would watch this again, loved it!

I thought that, too. I like John Carroll.
Thank you!
John Carroll was well liked in Hollywood for his lively personality. Not only that he had a pretty good singing voice.

Just watched this on TUBI!! Good movie!!
Aww they need a sequence to this
That is exactly what I thought .
Nice movie Thanks for posting
The beginning was a bum rap, of course, the man swung and missed. The gambler/owner didn't touch the drunk, didn't provoke him.
Movie started out meh, but comments led me to tough it out. That kid can ACT!!!
Good movie. Thanks for sharing.
Good one! Thanks

I don’t normally do the 1930s (unless it’s the little rascals) but this was a must see!! Thanks.

I
ve watched alot of good movies casac, steet car this movie is wo great, when you think you have seen everything
What a nice story very different I a shame that it takes some people a hard way to the good side of life ❤❤❤❤❤
MGM briefly placed John Carroll under contract to keep their top star Clark Gable as a "threat" but the two became life long friends.
Carroll left of his own accord to go to Republic because he got only supporting roles at MGM. L.B. Mayer adored Carroll.
Awesome
hey thank you send is movies for me again thanks
When he said, "You mean I'm going to go around in green tights....", I said yes, please, then wondered if he ever played Robin Hood in his career.

Just finished DOA myself and this was my next pick.

I'm sure I could give this a thumbs up if I could comfortably listen while watching... til then, thumbs down & don't expect a speaker to be used to amplify, I shouldn't have to resort to it.......
At the end of the movie it was funny how the boy almost drowned and his hair didn't even get wet. Ha!
That boy's hair was a supporting actor! 😅
What happened at the trial? What a beautiful movie thank you so much
Calling yourself a criminal could have a negative effect on your self-esteem.
