Many times these B Movies were even better than their A counterparts as they eliminated many useless side issues & just stuck to the story. Morris as always is excellent with great support from Ciannelli

In the field of classical music there is a wide range of outstanding composers and compositions, from the best-known to the least-known and overlooked. They all offer different experiences, and it is the same thing with films like this. Smaller budgets, shorter film length (so-called B-films) versus full-blown spectacles. This is a gem, and whatever flaws it may have are like wrinkles - they are ther and the add to it. Thank you posting this neat movie!

In most of Chester Morris movies he was always well dressed and possessed a slight laugh and smile in a lot of his lines in the movie. That was his trademark in doing a lot of his scenes.

Entertaining little film, which is all it was meant to be in the first first place. The leads all do good work (Morris, especially, was underrated during his career, but there has been renewed interest in him during recent years). To enjoy these types of films, you have to look at them from the aspect of the time they were made and film conventions of the era.

Morris was a very good actor, it is too bad that he got type-cast in the Boston Blackie series. Well, he made a fortune so it was probably worth it.

Ciannelli was born in Lacco Ameno, on the island of Ischia, where his father, a doctor, owned a health spa. He studied surgery at the University of Naples, and worked briefly as a doctor, but his love of grand opera and the dramatic stage won out and he became a successful baritone, singing at La Scala and touring Europe. Go figure.

You know, we are all knowledgeable that the treatment the “young couple” received really happened all over the country. It is reassuring that that harshness of the interrogation is quite so bad as previously, but I would lay money it is still objectionable to some extent. The portion of the pic where police enter rooms shooting, I’m sure was also somewhat based on reality. We’d like to think not, but that would be foolish. The movie itself was very entertaining. These old b&w detective movies are usually very good. Ty for the upload.

Mr. Morris......had tough exterior in most films, with a twist of humor, odd combo that worked for him. Think he really enjoyed being an actor. Walter Able.... actually met him once through mutual friend, seemed very polite with old type acting personality.... The supporting cast in this good, entertaining old black & white are tops ! Pizza Flix, putting in an order for another tasteful film. Thanks for this one.

The kids couldn't have been convicted of murder one. Gene told Rocky there was to be no shooting. Gene also told Dorothy he hated guns in front of a room full of people. Rocky was the instigator of the shooting by including a weapon he was ordered by Gene not to bring. So there was no premeditation on the part of Gene, or the kids who were supposed to leave the scene once the street fight got going. The man who kept telling them they were equally as guilty as the shooter was part of the police. He wasn't the District Attorney, so he could have been bluffing just for traction. But no way would either of the kids go to the electric chair. Some Hollywood writer didn't do the research.

Surprised to see Van Nest Polglase as art director since he was 13 yrs into his 32 yrs as art director for RKO, and no sign of his signature art deco style he popularized in the Astaire/Rogers series. Despite his impact via some of Hollywood's iconic films like "Gilda" and "Citizen Kane," his six Oscar nominations were pale alongside his much-decorated peer Cedric Gibbons, whose influence was also celebrated. Perhaps a factor in the alcoholism that diminished Polglase's career. Lee Patrick was a newlywed; reason for the spurned kiss from Morris? The "kid/boy" Tommy, 29, was just 7 yrs younger than Gene.
