That's because it is! Dick Dale made a surf rock version of this traditional tune in 1962, which was played in _Pulp Fiction_ .

The mandolin is tuned in G, D, A, E? Just comparing to your open strum section and it sounded different. Ευχαριστώ παρά πολύ!
I guess listening to again the open strumming was more of an open A.
